Just in comparison to all of the current CPU's available on the market today. The new Intels/AMDs/and dual cores are scorching fast compared to my CPU...

Re: Graphical settings experiments

Since this thread mentions tweaking, when I press M to bring up the map it comes up fast however, if I press M again to go back, it takes a little while to go back even see a little loading bar at the top left. Is this normal? I'm running a 4200 x2 , 2GB ram and a 1900XT.

Unfortunately this is normal - though the 'reload' times tend to vary, everyone gets this intermediary screen when returning to the game from any map or option window.

Re: Graphical settings experiments

The map thing is a massive hindrance when you are flying helicopters. The only tweak I have seen to combat the switching times is to defrag and move the ArmA files to the outside of your hard disk. It seems that the map load / unload time is dependent on your hard drive access speed.

Re: Graphical settings experiments

If you are all in motion, do not use the map. Use the "esc" key, that brings up a minimap which is completly zoomable and does not take any time to load or close. Plus you can still see what is going on in front of you, which is extremely important when flying.

Re: Graphical settings experiments

Better yet have your crew chief in map mode to give you bearings and landmarks to help you navigate.

Why didn't I think of that? Thanks for the tip!

Re: Graphical settings experiments

For anyone using SLI, rename your Arma.exe to "Gothic2.exe". This will give you good use of SLI since nvidia does not have a profile for it yet. Altough in my tests it didn't give that much an improvment (maybe 10 FPS more) but it's the best SLI set up I could get.

Re: Graphical settings experiments

I had to do the same thing Zoopy_T. Except I renamed mine 3dmark06.exe. I gained quite a bit of frames and it made the game playable, even if it is still a bit slow.

Hmm I'll have to give that a try.

Yeah, I told you to do that in another thread, but I find renaming it "Gothic2.exe" better then "3DMark06.exe".

I just press auto hover, gives you all the time you need.

Re: Graphical settings experiments

Just an update: overclocked my duo to 2.7ghz. Stock the 6600 runs 2.4. So I put it just over 6700 speed.

VERY noticeable performance increase with the 300 mhz jump.

Again, supports the idea this game is really bottlenecked by your processor.

Re: Graphical settings experiments

I was using on-board audio and went to an Audigy 4 card. That gave me an average of 5 frames increase. Five frames doesn't sound like a big increase but remember I was getting 20-30.

Re: Graphical settings experiments

Someone mentioned last night that TSoverlay kills framerates in ArmA... news to me! I went back and re-tested and I definitely see a big difference. Jeez.
