I think you need to join in a big game on Evo. You have to remember it is a campaign not a single mission with a clear objective. The supply lines take alot to manage and there is no way to split that. Every city assault chews up supplies and it's not always practical to run back to base. Vehicles need to be repaired and rearmed in a timely manner. Sure you could have a tactical SL and A Support SL and split the duties, but then you have two guys glued to maps instead of one. Strag brings up a more important point, if there is enough for 3 squads 20+ players it is almost a must to have a platoon leader to coordinate as the tactical side becomes a larger picture that someone sitting back and watching the pieces move could appreciate. The platoon leader won't be micromanaging. I think that is where the difference in the methods. Platoon leader would decide, hit delores, Alpha from the north and bravo from the west. The SL's would still be responsible for accomplishing that, all the micromanaging is still in their hands. The platoon leader would then give updates based on intel from the other squads or air units and advise SL's to change tactics based on that information.

Other individuals operating outside the platoon must respect the wishes of the platoon commander. This means you are NOT allowed to jump into a chopper or tank and clean-out Cayo without direct orders from the platoon leader (even if you aren't in the platoon). This is necessary so a platoon doesn't spend 30 minutes getting ready to assault a town, only to have someone with a high rank roll-in and clear it. Again we need people to be understanding with each other about the benefits of more organized play.
I'm glad you mentioned that, I've had that happen a couple times in our server and it is pretty annoying when you're that person on the ground. Of course if the server is unranked anyone can do it, which is a somewhat different issue.

Re: Platoon Leaders Wanted!

Feel free to contact an Admin if someone is taking away from the enjoyment of everyone else. We will not allow someone to directly disobey the orders/spirit of the game. We will warn, then we will ban. Everyone here wants organized play, feelings just differ on the rigidness of this organization. That is why we have two separate servers, and special events.

Re: Platoon Leaders Wanted!

I'm only just enlisted into TG but when I have got to know a few more of you a little better I'l be pleased to assist on missions.

I have had some experience of commanding teams in league matches and comps but that was with SpearHead and CoD2 which require a somewhat different tactical approach than ArmA.
That's the main reason I have moved over to ArmA and in fact joined your community, I'm looking for a professional military mature acting realism.
I believe I have found it here @ TG.

So as and when I am able and feel confident enough I'll be keen to put something back.

Rrrrrrrrrgr

Barnaby out

PS. I'd better stop shooting team mates first eh Jeepo ;¬}

Jeepo isn't a team mate, he's target practice.
