Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
I'm really looking forward to this release. Any updates recently?
PS- Are you folks doing anything to modify the survivability of armored vehicles against light anti-tank? I'm really curious as to how vehicle armor is handled in Arma. I vaguely recall that WWII Online actually measured impact location and angle and compared that to the thickness and strength of the vehicles armor. Does Arma do anything quite that complicated, or is it more of a weapon A does X amount of hitpoint damage to tank B?

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
I'm psyched about this mod, Dyslecxi. Question regarding vehicle damage, though:
M-136 AT4 rockets are basically recoilless rifles. They have a shaped-charge warhead that punches through armor. The whole principle is to cause spalling inside the vehicle and destroy the interior (read: kill the crew). An AT4 won't make a vehicle explode on its own; the munition doesn't work that way. Will ACE model this weapon correctly in terms of vehicle damage? Is it possible to render the vehicle inoperative and kill the crew with minimal visual fireworks? In the real world all you really see if a small flash where the AT4 penetrates the target. Same with tank-on-tank battles. Unless they're launching a TOW at each other, you won't see much more than a flash if you score a hit on an enemy MBT with APFSDS. HE will cause a bigger whump but nothing flashy like the vanilla ArmA. Maybe secondaries...
Only stuff like the Javelin and air-delivered munitions make the vehicles outright explode with a hit.
It's a minor change, but it'd be in the realm of what this mod is attempting to create.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blah blah blah.

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
Rumor has it from the Wii Forums that the ACE developers have ported the MOD to Mario Strikers and will only be releasing it on that Platform.. Although it is just a rumor... ;-)

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
I understand the "it's ready when its ready" approach to mods, particularly mods of this size, but in relation to ArmA 2, will this mod be significantly in advance of ArmA 2 in terms of release date?

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
well with my unknowing mind about this mod or anything for that matter... I am actually concerned that all this hard work will be worth nothing or very little because when it is finally released, OFP2 will most likely be coming out and maybe ArmA2... and thou everyone seems to claim they "aren't getting ArmA 2 till they fix the first one", I'm willing to bet the majority do.
So I do hope for the makers sake, that this mod is released sooner rather then later.Magnum

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
Something similar to that happend with the Eve of Destruction (Vietnam era) mod for BF1942. The mod did a better job then BF Vietnam by EA's attempt but because it was "new" people droped the still early mod and went with the game. It's a shame because the mod had a much better feel to it and the extra features from EA's game weren't a big deal.

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
I think arma's release date was put back 2 or even 3 years (felt that long anyway). I wouldn't put too much on expected release dates and should arma 2 come along at the same time or after then let's hope it's easily convertable to that.

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
I believe that mods/addons made for ArmA will automagically work with ArmA2.
In fact, BIS has already released some detail on how modders can make sure their content will be compatible (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bi...1;t=67967;st=0).
So no worries.

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
WOW this looks awesome, however, if it means i have to get arma 2 i might be missing out due to computer specs that arma 2 currently needs, as well as a rumor i heard that arma 2 will be running on vista, which i do not currently have.....nor really want, not that i have anything against vista, but i like xp.

Noticed today that the ShackTac server is now listed as Shack Tactical (ACE). Late stage beta, hopefully?
