Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
Well, after just having come out of a 22:00 - 05:30 game (whew that was a long one ...), sans NVGs of course (it sure gets dark around 03:00 ..), I have a suggestion/request for ACE.
As you may know, in ArmA, at night, without a moon, it is DARK. I mean REALLY dark. You can't see your rifle in your hands dark. This is fine, I have no problem with this (go outside much at night? It really DOES get that dark!). What I do have a problem with is the flares.
Simply, the flares are too short. They last for around 15 seconds.
"The parachute attached to the round deploys upon ejection to lower the candle at 7 feet per second. The candle burns for about 40 seconds." - From FM 3-22.31
It would be nice to have the flares last longer.
Furthermore, it would be great if there was an option to carry hand-launched paraflares that do not require a GL, it simply takes up space like a magazine or grenade. This would require a bit more work however.

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
I don't see TG as having any significant experience with collective mod usage. Because of that, I don't see much point in considering TG for any sort of closed testing. Combine that with the fact that TG is a group that is very easy to get into and has relatively little member control and you find yourself in a situation where the risks far outweigh any potential benefits.
In any case, the beta's not terribly far off. You guys will have a chance at it then.

That was why I had "wishful thinking" in the sentence I know TG is too "open" for a closed testing.

I hope not, and the good thing about the beta will be that because its well tested, there hopefully won't be all that many bugs! Still can't wait, and I would expect it to be fully utilised here at TG! I would imagine it getting a seperate server, and totally taking over from domination.

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
- Robust stamina system that factors in the weight of your gear, speed of movement, steepness of terrain, weather, wounds, and more. The pacing of combat becomes a lot more authentic when people can no longer endlessly sprint around the map and exploit their superhuman endurance.
Something that I have been interested in for a while now is the "robust stamina system".
I was wondering if any more light could be shed on it?
Basically, what I want to know is: will you become "tired" (breathing heavily in ArmA) from jogging aswell? It seems kind of silly that you can jog for 10km and have no side effects, you are fine and dandy.
Now, if you do in fact get tired from jogging, there may be a problem ..
Currently, ArmA has 2 basic movement speeds: fast and slow. You are either jogging or walking slowly. There isn't really anything in between.
I propose a new speed, something that would only be necessary if the stamina system punished continual jogging.
A "marching" speed, slower than jogging, but faster than the "combat glide" or the "lazy Sunday" walk that your avatar does when the weapon is lowered.
I noticed that the movement of "jog" when you weapon is lowered is the same as the "jog" when the weapon is raised. Replacing this movement with a new animation of a brisk walk, basically a faster version of the "weapon slung, walking" animation would give the player a movement speed that wouldn't tire them out, but it would also move them around at a little bit faster of a pace.
I don't know if you guys have already done this .. not much info, but it is just something that I've been interested about in ACE.

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
Introducing an entirely new speed option is probably out of the question for an ArmA mod. It's not in the plans for ACE, at least.
Yes, jogging will wear you out in ACE. To recover, simply stop moving for a bit, take a knee, etc. I have not seen any situations thus far where a combination of jogging and walking has not been sufficient for stamina management/gameplay purposes.

For those that haven't seen it, there is a 47 page forum thread on the ACE mod over at the BIS forums:

Re: ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
Is there a chance of this being released before ArmA 2?
It would be nice to see some media also. More exposure the mod has usually the more downloads it has. Allso blocks of text with promising features is not as attractive as a screenshot or a video.
