Personally I'd prefer the Schemerfalden map over these ACE Island maps, which haven't been that impressive from the missions I've played on them so far...
Although I admit I've only played on 3-4 ACE Islands so it could be just bad luck... but the ones I have seen have been very "raw" and they feel prety incomplete, in terms of static placement and ground textures. As well, the designs on the maps I played on didnt really have a realistic feel to them, nor did their design feel like they contributed to a good gameplay. Again this could also have been the missions setup on them that gave a bad impression, but cant help but feel these islands were rushed out a bit, although I understand the Island creator is not exactly the easiest software to work with...

Is there anyplace where I can download ACE Islands v1.0? Im trying to get some friends onto the TG server but they need 1.0 to play and I cant find a mirror with 1.0 available.

I think you should grab Nicholas Bells Pakistan map instead when it releases. Looks great.

I soo agree.... And yes I checked out every simgle one trying to fin some for missions i am creating.
Here is the thing with all of this. I would have thought that using the ACE name would infer new maps that would expand on a solid MOD. All they are doing is going backwards by using rehashed OFP maps that are nothing more then nostalgia. I think in 8 years people create something a bit more useful. ACE is a game changing MOD, the islands are not. Plus like mentioned above, some of them are simply crap. They should not be using the same name...
Now I will not take away from the fact that some people did put some serious time and energy into the making of these islands. However, I feel they are simply waisting their time. Why publish HD maps when most in ArmA are struggling to get decent Frame Rates already?
Now I see they did update one or two maps, I will look into seeing if we can update the current islands without having to use all 2-3 gig of crap that go with it.....The Meek shall inherit the earth..... after we're through with it!

ACEIP 1.10 is released....
Is it safe to assume that the missions created on 1.00 islands are now down the tubes? I'd be surprised if things are backward compatible.

Anyone who is complaining about these being "rough" or "OFP rehashes" or whatever is really seriously missing the point.
The ACE island pack is a collection of islands from OFP, ported over to ArmA. If you don't like them, that's cool - don't use them. However, you really shouldn't trash them and say that it's a "waste of time" to port them. There are plenty of people around from the OFP days who are delighted to have the old islands back. They are quite competent ports. For those communities that have literally hundreds of missions from WGL that took place on those islands, it is beyond awesome to have them back and be able to port missions over from OFP/WGL to ArmA/ACE in the same terrains.
It is what it is. If you're expecting something more, it's inevitable that you'll be disappointed. For those who appreciate what the intent is, and have a reason to revisit those islands, they're a godsend.

Yes but we will always have a core that want this or want that. Yes Schmafelden is great but it is also heavy on server resources if we are running that and other islands on the other server.
I personally find it quite unsavoury though to trash other peoples work simply because you dont like their mission or the fact that it is not running the map YOU want to play.
A customary note to all to all to simply say, "I dont really like these islands" that is more than enough said. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but lets have a little respect for the time and effort put in by island and mission makers alike.BlackDog1

A few of the ACE maps are a fantastic balance of detail and performance ... you guys need to help me beta test mine & Macolik's mission we're working on

Some of them maybe are a little bland or out of date, but I think Dyslexci and BD made relevant points ... also, I dunno about you guys, but I'm just getting REALLY TIRED of Sahrani! I don't even have to look at my map any more to know exactly where I am, lol.
My question: will people with 1.0 and 1.1 ACE-Islands be able to play together? If the updates are only SAT textures... did the compatibility change?
One thing I'd REALLY like to see changed is that some of the forests have these big ugly trees which you can't walk through. Big immersion killer when you're trying to run into a forest, only to hit an invisible wall
Would be half-tempted to do the necessary editing myself and submit it to ACE, if I had the right source data...

For now I like the variety in numbers. I didn't play so much online coop in OFP, so I have no nostalgia to these maps.
But its cool to play on a Island I haven't played on before, that can be explored while fighting my way trough it.
