Re: What is going on with BI and Island makers?
Yeah, the SCRIPTING documentation is quite good. If you want to find documentation on any other kind of modding for ArmA you are quite hard pressed and with a very limited amount of resources. Sad truth. At least the most important part is documented ^^

Yeah I've worked with dialogs a bit, and I found the information available in the Wiki and OFPEC tutorials enough for my needs. Nowadays I do try to use Morten's Arma dialog desginer, as it has a pretty good wysiwyg-interface. There's not much on listboxes in the Wiki, but they're created just like any other controls and populated with the lbAdd-command

Re: What is going on with BI and Island makers?
BIS uses a more "sophisciated" version of Visitor, e.g. one of these is having 3d-Editor-capacities (which has probably the largest impact on editing). A working 3D-Editor makes an island makers life way easier and less exhausting.
To compare, create a mission setup with a base, camps, ammo crates etc. in Jonas' RealTimeEditor (Sadly it can't export to Visitor) and then just with the editor. That's a hell of a difference, I can create whole setups with the RTE in 10 minutes when I would only have placed 2 objects straight in the normal editor because of repositing, changing setpos getpos parameters (height), azimut, etc... which is left out when using 3D-Editors.
ArmA1 had a 3d Editor for Islands by Using Mapfacts 3DE, but with Mapfact closed there is not real a point of hoping for a release.
As for the helping threads, take a look at the dates, when BIS released the new Visitor tools there was like zero helpful documentation, the basic island example was out-dated and not suitable, some time later helpful users created a new package.
When I tried no updated documentation existed, alot of things changed and it took me alot of time of asking, reading, editing, saving, deleting that could have been spared if only an experienced BIS crew member would have taken a minimum of his time creating a new example package with a small tutorial and hint out changes.

Re: What is going on with BI and Island makers?
This seemed like the most appropriate thread to post this in: IceBreakr, the creator of Isla Duala and Island Panthera, is calling it quits, for much the same reasons as Opteryx. Relevant post here. Reading the next few pages in that thread, everything seems to indicate that he'll finish Isla Duala (says he's releasing v1.3 today, adding an offshore islet called Isla Vixena), and then bow out of map-making.
There's also some mentions of OPX being killed off for the same reasons in that thread, I can't recall if that's the addon that was going to bring ACEIP islands into ACE2 or something else. If it's the former it's a real shame.
edit: Oh, got it.

Re: What is going on with BI and Island makers?
OPX == Opteryx's stuff
On the subject of tools that are part of VBS, I think this one sums it up pretty well:
Sure it would be nice to have all the $1000 stuff for $40, but it's just not gonna happen.I'm pretty sure that since BIA developed those tools shown in VBS 1.3 that it's up to BIA to release them to us, not BIS. When you spend over $1000 on VBS2, there's a reason that you get such nicer things than you do in ArmA II for $40.
