Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for ArmA by Dslyecxi
This guide is the end result of six months worth of time, effort, and energy. It deals with real-world combat tactics, techniques, and procedures, and how they can be applied in a virtual combat environment either as an individual or part of a team. It is based upon the experiences of my gaming group "Shack Tactical" and is over 60,000 words long, with videos, animations, and large amounts of pictures and illustrations to flesh out the many topics covered. While it is based upon ArmA: Combat Operations by Bohemia Interactive Studios, many of the tips and tactics described are applicable to a wide variety of wargames as well.
I've presented the guide in two dramatically different ways - the first is freely available online, and you can find that version here. The second and latest version is a hardcopy 8.5x11", full-color, 168-page paperback book professionally laid out and available from a high-quality print-on-demand vendor. You can find out more about (and order!) the paperback version here.
Here are some shots of what the paperback version looks like. I am very proud of how it turned out, for obvious reasons.
The main blurb on the back cover is a good explanation of what the guide is all about.
Covering everything from basic infantry tactics to advanced combined arms operations, Dslyecxi’s Tactics, Techniques, & Procedures Guide sets the standard for a community-developed player handbook. All of the essentials for organized play of ArmA: Combat Operations, or any other tactical realism game, are presented in a functional and easy to understand format. Where other guides approach tactical realism with bulky emphasis on “real,” Dslyecxi has distilled years of modern combat documentation into a package that is directly relevant to gaming, with none of the excesses that hinder game play. Beneficial to both experienced simulation and entry level players alike, Tactics is an excellent addition to any gamer’s library.
Hope you guys enjoy it. There's a nice mention of TacticalGamer right at the start of it, too.

By popular demand, there is now a half-price black-and-white version available. Cover is still full-color, inside is grayscale. It looks quite nice and, as mentioned, costs half as much.

Also, the guide was just reviewed by Magnum of SimHQ. You can find the review here.Last edited by John CANavar; 07-07-2007 at 02:14 PM.

Hey, it's NOT May 1st hero!

Glad to see it up, and I already read most of it, privileged, and I highly recommend the read... puts my tactical briefs to shame.

Excellent work! I'm going to have to spend some more time and read the whole thing over the weekend, but it certainly looks like you put a ton of time and effort into this.

Outstanding Dslyecxi! What a great read. I look forward to practicing these TTPs.
I'm particularly interested in the Squad XML, rank graphics, and customized map markers. ...Any chance we can duplicate something like this at TG?

Awesome work! This has been stickied in the ArmA Tactics forum and should make great reading for ArmA veterans and newcomers alike. Thanks much, Dslyecxi.

In work, so it took two days to read through.
Will certainly be downloading the .pdf when it becomes available, and will send you a donation via PayPal in appreciation of your hard work.

Re: I've got your tactics right here.
Quoting from the ArmA forums, this is some footage from our first major ArmA session that shows off some of our gameplay. It's a bit rough now (compared to how we played in OFP+WGL), but man.. it's a ton of fun already, and it's only going to get better.
ShackTac had its first MP ArmA session on Saturday, and this is some footage from it. This particular mission involved ~40 human players, organized into three squads, fighting against ~250 AI opfor utilizing various enhanced AI group behavior scripts. It was a hell of a lot of fun.
Short Sample Clip
High-Quality Downloadable Version
Low-Quality Google Video Version
The footage starts about 15 seconds after I took this screen:

It was somewhat rough as a first session (had crashing issues, for one), but aside from the issues that were out of our control, it was pretty neat. I'm really looking forward to seeing what things are like in a few months once everything has had a chance to settle, and especially once ACE and CoC's stuff starts getting released.
