The first link to the Sound Mod doesn't work

    Proto-

True view is not part of TrueMods, a large pack of mods of which True View is included. Here is the new link at Armaholic:

    TrueMods by rg7621

I will also correct the link in the first post.

    Re: Recommended Client-Side Mods

Some guys were wondering what mods I was using to get the different uniforms for the West forces. Here you go:

ACU replacement pack - Puts everyone into proper ACU uniforms with an ACU-pattern IBA (body armor) and MOLLE gear. No more of that funky woodland-camo armor/gear.
    http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=1250

EBU's SOCOM replacement pack - There's actually three versions you can use which replaces the SF units in-game: desert (DCU with solid-color olive drab armor), CQB (black armor with olive-drab jumpsuits w/ the SF marksman being woodland camo with black armor), and Woodland (all woodland camo). It also removes the hockey helmet nonsense and places the SF units in MITCH helmets. Which - in my experience - is what SF guys now wear. It's comfortable as hell, after all.

Remember to scroll down to the bottom of the page and visit the link given in the "See Also" section. These replacement mods require the original add-on packs to work properly.

There's also a lot more, including SLA re-skins and Marine MARPAT uniforms for those jarheads out there. Weapon reskins, vehicle reskins, etc, etc.

    Hello

I'm now considering adding some mods now that they seem to have been running stable for some time.
    Tracer ok
    True view ok
but which sound mod is best for what??? could somebody add a small description along side each explaining the differences.

    Thanks

Well for me I tried Chammys sound mod and the FDF sound mod and stuck with the FDF. The overall quality, especially small arms fire, for my ears was better in the FDF. That being said Chammys is still a WIP and is striving for realism so it could be better eventually. I downloaded and installed both and made two different shortcuts, I swithched between the two every other night for a week to see which I prefered.

    Re: Recommended Client-Side Mods

    Barnaby,

Here is my Take on sound mods. FDF and Modware are complete sound mods that have some good, some bad but general go for a more Hollywood Style feel.

Chammy is striving for realism and his sounds that are finished are amazing as far as clarity and IMHO accuracy to what I have heard in person. They just sound more like gunshots even though they're not as impressive to some especially those with limited real world experience.

BPA, solid sounds not as clear as Chammy. General a better feel than the first two for accuracy, again IMO. However this is the one I use since it is a complete sound mod where Chammy's isn't finished yet and it's greatest bonus is it adds a lot of environmental sounds and little things that the other mods don't. Nice touches that add to immersion.

If I had to rank them in the order I would take:

    Chammy's(When finished)
    BPA(Currently used for reasons stated)
    ModWar
    FDF

    Thanks Gents for your information.
I'll be trying out the BPA first then.

    Re: Recommended Client-Side Mods

Chammy's sound mod, IMO, is the best - hands down.

One thing I didn't like about a lot of other mods is the report of distant small firearms which sound like those little "snap-pop" things you can get around July 4th that you throw at the ground.... sounds like a loud snap.

I was stationed at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa for 7 years. The gun range was about a mile and a half away from my workplace on the other side of the runway. Chammy's distant rifle reports sound extrememly similar to what I would hear at work on the days that people were firing at the range - a muffled, lower pitched pop.

I can't speak for AKs though, never heard one fired.

Try all the sound mods, but I can gaurantee you'll love Chammy's.

    Re: Recommended Client-Side Mods

I was using BPA but didn't seem any better than the default sounds. So I tried Modwar and instantly though now thats what a gun is supposed to sound like.

I agree. Chammy's sounds, sound like what I have heard over the years. Especially the .223 sounds. Once complete I know I will use this, but I enjoy the environmental stuff from BPA.

    Re: Recommended Client-Side Mods

Hopefully by the end of tomorrow, I will have a consolidated pack available in the SM download section. Nothing really special outside of convenience, but it will include some minor tweaks to the above recommended mods so no editing out of the box.
