Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?
I guess they finally released a beta for this:
http://www.armaholic.com/forums.php?...&n=last#bottom
but it looks like installation is a little more involved than simply unzipping the folder into the arma directory

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?
With pboview:
http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=63919
- Start pboview
- press the unpack button (CTRL +u)
- locate your weapons.pbo (A weapons folder will be created in the same location)
- Browse in the weapons folder until you find the data/sound folder
- Unzip the contents (all the .wss files) of chammy's sound mod in that folder.
- Press the pack button (CTRL +p)
- Locate the weapons folder and press OK (a backup of your original weapons.pbo will be created automatically, named weapons.pbo.bak.)
Overwrite that (edited) weapons.pbo with the original. (Put the weapons.pbo in your new folder, and rename the .bak file back to weapons.pbo)
- Done. Simple as that.Last edited by VegaBond; 07-10-2007 at 08:55 AM. Reason: better instructions

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?
Great stuff! Thanks for keeping an eye on that.
...this is exactly like OFP. Mod addition normally requires the player to delve into a little more "hack and slash" with files than most other games. Regular players normally have a tool set, like MakePBO and UnPBO, that allow them to use some of the bleeding edge Mods out there.
If you know what you're doing, it's no big deal. If you don't, it can be an endless source of frustration normally leading to a complete re-install of the game. If you need help, we can expand Vega's quoted instructions a little to keep it all organized.

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?
Well, has someone tried this? I'm making the PBO as we speak. Looks like it's gonna take a while.
Unless it suddenly speeds up, it's gonna take about 2 hrs.Last edited by Shafik; 07-10-2007 at 06:10 AM.

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?
Until someone manages to do this in a ModWarSound way, this is a 200+ MB weapons.pbo file. Not sure how many would download that just for sound. But this is the best sound mod yet, IMO, hands down. It still doesn't feature vehicles, but we've managed to pack the vehivle sounds from ModWar with these new ones. Great results. Very easy to do.
Details on how to get this thing working. It really isn't hard. Just taking VegaBond's quote and explaining. We are simply opening an archived file, replacing some of it's content, and closing it up again.
First thing is first. Move to Arma\Addons\Weapons.pbo and back it up. Better safe than reinstalling.
Download Chammy's sound files from here: http://dodownload.filefront.com/8006...42789a4042a6ae
Download PBOview from here: http://voyager.alfamoon.com/download/arma/PboView.zip
Run PBOview, and hit CTRL+U. The program will ask you to navigate to your arma\addons\weapons.pbo. Hit OK once you find it. The file will unpack into a new directory called Weapons. Navigate in this directory and find \data\sounds. Note: There are 2 sounds folders. One will be in the root Weapons folder, and another in the Data folder. You want the Data\Sounds. This is critical.
Now, extract the WSS files from the downloaded Chammy's mod file (mine was dta_sound.zip) into this \data\sounds\ directory, overwriting any and all files. When you're done, Go back to PBOview, and hit CTRL+P. This time were Packing the new folder we just created. Find the folder and hit OK. You'll notice that your original (vanilla) weapons.pbo is backed up safely as weapons.pbo.bak. No harm done.
Now, for the @modfolder setup, you know the drill. Take the new weapons.pbo and put into a new @Chammy\Addons\ directory in your root Arma directory. Rename your backed up weapons.pbo.bak to weapons.pbo. We now have the original game intact, with a modfolder for Chammy's sound mod. Just add -mod=@Chammy to your command line, or add it to kegety's Launcher.
If you've gotten this far, and want the vehicle sounds as well, you simply have to unpack the PBO from ModWarSound, locate the sound files for vehicles by name, unpack Chammy's Weapons.pbo, copy the vehicle sound files over, and repack.
Hosted packed weapons.pbo for the extremely lazy
(Warning: I take no responsibility, this isn't mine. I did my own unpacking and repacking): http://www.armaholic.eu/argentina/ad...sc/weapons.rar. 129MB
Hope that helps. Disregard my previous post about the time it takes. This whole process should take no more than 5 minutes. I was using OFP tools for an ArmA job.

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?
hmm... I can't tell if it's working or not.. i was using a different (non-default) sound pack before and haven't noticed any changes. Is there something obvious I should be looking (listening) for?
I don't hear ANY of the sounds that were heard in the video in the first post. There's no echo to the m16 or m4 shots.. should there be?

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?
You should hear the difference when shooting at your feet while prone, shooting closer and closer to yourself. Get someone to shoot near your head. the m-16 and variants also have some cracks and echos. When I get off work I'll try to record some. You could also try to convert the wss files and listen in if that's what you're hearing. But if you're in doubt, you probably don't hear them.

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?
Is it just me, or do the sounds not sound "real". Like id imagine if i were firing a gun, it would be a hell of a lot louder and have more of a "punch" to it. Right now it seems "not real" and no punch to it.
Am i right or wrong?

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?
It would be pretty much impossible to capture the true feel of a gun shot in a game. You would need a really impressive sound system, a headset wouldn't cut it. Most assault rifles I have shot are really loud. .50 rifle is down right deafening. Terrain affects the sounds a lot as well, especially the bigger rounds.
