Yeah you have to rename your folder to csmsounds, but it really doesnt matter, the same sounds still play

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?

I did all the right things with the Chammy mod, but I am confused on the part refering to the ModWar sounds.

Which do I need to unpack to place de ModWar sounds on? The original weapon.pbo or the weapons.pbo that went into the @Chammys/Addons folder?

When I find the vehicle sounds on ModWar, I see M1A1engine, KA-50, 5ttruckengine, but I simply can't find those sounds to replace on the weapons.pbo on Chammy's folder...

Do I need to replace anything, or simply place those in there? Last night my gun sounds changed, but I have a feeling I also lost my vehicle sounds of ModWar (meaning I screwed up somehow).

Also, Shafik, you said you copied all the ModWar sounds (Explosion, Rockets, etc). Did it work properly???

Plz, help.

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?

This sound pack is really quite terrible - don't see the appeal. The sounds themselves are MOSTLY pretty good, but the fact that my heavy breathing drowns out a TOW missile exploding 20 feet from me and the sound of a bullet impacting a barrel 200 feet away is louder then my own weapon fire...

Why they'd release such an atrociously half-assed product is beyond me.

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?

I think it's still a beta with final version to come. Some of the levels are off, I grant you, but many of the sounds are quite better than stock. I like the percussive effect of the carbines in game.

If you read the actual post in the BIS forums which is linked on the first page, you will see that this is an early BETA release. The sounds are good. The adjustments for volumes, etc on the sounds are not as well as no vehicle sounds being included.

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?

Beta implies it's mostly done and needs polish. This is like pre-Alpha.

But then again, everyone releases beta-everything these days as a way to dodge criticism and get away with stagnantly slow development.

Ouch.

I like it, I just don't like the whole "using Chammy's weapon sounds and modWar vehicle sounds"

Gave me a lot of trouble and I get an error every time I join a server, so I'm just using ModWar (which is fairly good) for the time being. But I really enjoyed the carbine sounds also. =)

Actually, maybe you should go read the BIS forums first.

They are going to be replacing all if not most of the sounds (complete with vehicle sounds) in the final versions....I think the intent was to use these sounds as placeholders to properly sync with animation/get proper echos/etc. In the meantime, they have been collecting more and better sounds. That's why it's beta. It will sound like a different mod according to Chammy.

BTW, I think a lot of the weapon sounds in ModWar were made by Chammy for OFP.

If you don't like it don't use it. Better yet, make your own mod...I'm sure it would be fantastic.

Not exactly.

Beta means that all the features that will be in the final are now in the software, irrespective of the number of bugs within those features.

Alpha means useable and testable, but addional features from within the design will continue to be added to later versions.

Pre alpha is pretty much a non testable version by regular testers. Those versions usually can only be managed by the programmers themselves due to the incomplete nature. programmers can kinda test tehir own untis of code becuase they know where all the dosconnected parts start and end and they can look at teh code.

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?

Nicely said JAMerica, but I'll be using ModWar for now! Even with the carbine sounds not being as cool as in Chammy's, I have no problem at all with breathing, I have no problem my gunshot being too low and I get no errors when I connect to the server =P

When they release the next version, hopefully with those fixed, i'm gonna use it 100%!

Yeah, I think ModWar is definitely the most polished sound mod right now....same as you, I tried to combine the two and basically gave up.

Chammy's is supposed to be out...and according to him, it will knock our socks off!

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?

Am I the only person that doesn't mind the default sounds? One thing I notice about gaming and real life is sometimes I hear the sounds from memory in real life kind of like a song you listen to or the sounds of peoples voices are remembered and recalled. One thing I like about Arma is the sounds of bullets coming at you aren't like someone shooting at you in Counter Strike! BAM BANG BLAM! Arma makes for more pleasant memories as I prepare breakfast LOL! Another thing that I notice is I hear the KA50 way before others. I believe this is important especially when our squad is on a hill standing around the vulcan but no one else heard the Camo till it completly circled behind us. Not sure if thats my onboard audio (my Creative sound card is disabled till they patch Arma).

Re: Great new sound pack...is this for real?

It depends on the sound mod and sound setting curt. Some of the mods have adjusted the levels and the other sounds are louder closer than a distant KA-50, same with TS, etc, etc. The sounds mods odd so much to the game. I really like the combo of Chammy's and Modwar that I run. Chammy's final will be great.
