Platoon Operations (Procedures and Tips)
Please add procedures and tips which will help coordination between PL-SLs or SLs-SLs during our platoon level operations.
Map
- Position update. When needed, PL or one of the SLs sends a position update request, all friendly units mark their current location on map using the following standard designation:
> a square icon
> squad number as S#
> time stamp
Example:
> S1 0115
Radio
- Radio Contact Time. Since SLs need their radio (TS) heavily to organize their squads (intra-squad comm) before an operation, it is better to set certain times to make contact between squads/squadrons (inter-squad comm) instead of leaving the channel on and using it all the time. During an operation, comm channel between SLs must be open.
Example:
S1 SL: "One to all units... Working on preparations... Next radio contact at time two three zero five"

Re: Platoon Operations (Procedures and Tips)
If you are SL or PL, I actually recommend a legal pad and paper next to your computer. It has helped a lot with writing down who is in your squad (2 - Bob 3 - Rob, etc). This will also help a lot with time checks; a lot of info is tossed around in the big games!

Re: Platoon Operations (Procedures and Tips)
Fantastic thread. This has "SOP" written all over it. Keep it rolling!
Map
- Marker Management: After operations in a given AO have concluded, it is helpful to remove all unecessary markers placed during the action. In fact, it's often helpful to remove outdated markers during operations, such as obsolete waypoints or rally points.

Re: Platoon Operations (Procedures and Tips)
Offensive Operations
- Primary Staging Area: Relatively safe spot to deploy scout element. Send it forward and wait for intel/clearance.
- Secondary Staging Area: A closer-to-objective, final staging area confirmed to be safe by scout element from which offensive is initiated.
EDIT: Primary and secondary is not giving the meaning I want. Suggestions?

Re: Platoon Operations (Procedures and Tips)
Radio Comm
- Brevity is essential in radio comm between SLs since they have a squad to manage. Plan what you are going to say to other SLs and break it down to just a couple of words.
Bad: All right squad one, now we are moving to SE of objective together and as far as I can see area is clear, we will talk you back when we take our position.
Good: Two, One... Moving to SE of objective...area clear...next radio contact in five

Re: Platoon Operations (Procedures and Tips)
Map
- Map grid size: 200x200 m (282 m diagonal)
- A soldier can run 200 m in approx. 50 sec (This will help you to time your movement and attacks)
- Use side channel for markers (sometimes SMs dont see group channel markers)
- Some marker standards (Add your squad number in front. Ex. S1 LZ):
LZ (landing zone)
DZ (drop zone)
ORP (objective rally point)
ASA (assault staging area)
- Map marker shapes and colors. Up/down arrow keys cycle through a list of marker shapes and left_shift + up/down arrow keys cycle through colors.

Re: Platoon Operations (Procedures and Tips)
Map
- [Needs confirmation] Max number of markers that can be placed: 4 (Evolution only). The fifth marker will delete the first one you placed.
Radio Communication
- [Suggestion] Air element units identify themselves as
Littlebird One
Littlebird Two
Blackhawk One
A-10 One
etc
- [Suggestion] Typical air transportation request:
Squad One SL: Squad One to Air Transport...
Littlebird One: Littlebird one here, go ahead One
Squad One SL: Request transportation...sending information on team channel
Littlebird One: 10-4 One
Squad One SL sends the following chat message:
S1 transport...2 personnel...pickup: Main Base...destination: S1 ASA, Hc12 (marked)
Littlebird One: Information received one...ETA 3 min

Re: Platoon Operations (Procedures and Tips)
I used this type of comm procedure with E-male and Vendi yesterday and worked out quite well. This is definitely the way to go when requesting transport. Also, using markers LZ Squad X for the marker.
Maybe we should decide on what color marker for LZ's so pilots can quickly scan the map for an LZ marker.|TG-12th| tHa_KhAn

Re: Platoon Operations (Procedures and Tips)
I believe we are ready to enforce at least the comms part at our current standing. By enforce I mean strongly suggest everyone doing channel commander crosstalk to use it.
