Re: Touchbuddy & Touchbuddy Toolkit for Games

Hey Buc, have you mentioned the small "local" mode problem that we discovered with TouchBuddy? I`m looking but not seeing it.

We only recently found a small...err. LARGE problem with the TouchScreen when thet are attached to the same PC as the game (i.e. "local" mode). When you press the screen, the touch screen drivers will move the mouse to that location and then create a click event to press the button. Now, coming from a flight sim background, we dont tend to use the mouse at all, so never realised that when you press the screen, ArmA does some strange stuff.... it sees the mouse move (so you move in game) and the button click event triggers the left mouse button fire in game... doh! The reason why Buc doesnt see this problem is that he is running in client/server mode, where the screen is attached to a seperate PC, and so this mouse move and click is not seen by the game.

Just thought I`d mention it here.... hell, it was a real "DOH!" moment for me

Good morning Z.

I didn't mention it straight away, just in case some kind of "fix" came along (within a reasonable time frame). As you quite rightly said, when the user is running in Client/Server Mode this "feature" is not noticed.

I can see this being a big problem with any FPS that uses the left mouse button to fire the Primary Weapon (all of them)! Every time TB gets focus, and then your weapon discharging wouldn't be very helpful.

I take it from the tone of your thread, that you are not optimistic about a fix for Local mode Z? That would be a shame.

Re: Touchbuddy & Touchbuddy Toolkit for Games

I have this sneaky feeling that I wont be able to fix the problem... maybe the mouse click problem, but not the mouse move, and it needs both to be solved

Re: Touchbuddy & Touchbuddy Toolkit for Games

Including the Sahrani Map with the Profile (which is over 15Mb by itself) pushed up the overall size of the file Lok - So I couldn't host it on the TB website. But had to host it myself.

Trouble is it didn't take long before my monthly Bandwidth got used.

Thanks to Panzer, pointing me in the right direction. I now have Webspace here at TG (thank you Apo, for activating) ArmA Profile available: Here

Re: Touchbuddy & Touchbuddy Toolkit for Games

I forgot to mention the following are the TeamSpeak binds to work with my profile:

CTRL SHIFT T Teamspeak Server On/Off
CTRL SHIFT C Community Channel
CTRL SHIFT E East
CTRL SHIFT S Seagulls
CTRL SHIFT W West
CTRL SHIFT A Armed Assault Main Channel
CTRL SHIFT 1 1st Squad
CTRL SHIFT 2 2nd Squad
CTRL SHIFT 3 3rd Squad
CTRL SHIFT 4 4th Squad
CTRL SHIFT M Armour
CTRL SHIFT P Air
CTRL SHIFT B Command

You can always change these within the Toolkit though. Whisper Channels, have not been set yet, because I am a bit unsure how they work (never used a whisper before).

Thank you so much for going to all that trouble.
I'll have a think and see if i can help you out in some way in return.

Ive not peeked at the images on this profile, as im dling as i read, but if there's any images you need tidying up, Im a bit of a 3d / photoshop user, so Id be happy to buff up anything (if anything needs it that is! no offence ment!)

None taken. If you feel the need to amend any icons, please feel free to do so. Mine are basic, but do the job.

Re: Touchbuddy & Touchbuddy Toolkit for Games

My screens have changed a bit, as I have got more used to how the game mechanics work.

As ignorant as can be. How much does the Touchbuddy cost and what is the best way to get it in Europe?

Re: Touchbuddy & Touchbuddy Toolkit for Games

Touchscreen would be the biggest outlay PH.

However, you don't need a touchscreen to give TB a try. You can run it in local mode on your own PC (with a 2nd Monitor attatched, using your mouse to emulate your finger pressing the buttons, this emulated key press will still activate the in game key press). Or even better, in Server/Client mode from a laptop or networked 2nd PC.

TB (the application) is free, and always has been. So is the TB Toolkit (which is essential IMO to making profiles).

Everything you need to know is available on the TB Forums. From "How do I ...." to the different Touchscreens. You can download the TB App here, and also other peoples profiles for various games (mainly Flight Sims): HERE

Wouldn't a monitor touch overlay reduce the cost alot? Assuming you could use one. I have see those for as little as $70. The resolution isn't as high but with the big buttons I don't think that would be a problem.

Hi El Gringo Grande. Quite a few people do indeed use Touchscreen overlays (for their 17" (and above) monitors). Works just like a purpose built touchscreen would. Some people are running 3 touchscreens from the same client machine. (Two outputs off the normal AGP/PCI Graphics card, plus a third PCI Graphics card in a vacant PCI slot, can give you 4 working Touchscreens. All independently running the TB App. Flight Sim user could then have left and right MFD consoles, permanently displayed, instead of having to change screens).

I have my LinITX (touchscreen), mainly because I was following the progress of Touchbuddy since its inception last year. And that was the touchscreen TB's creator was using (Zorlac).

Here is a photo of 2 x 17" monitors with Touchscreen overlays being used by Ruggbutt with Lockon.

Re: Touchbuddy & Touchbuddy Toolkit for Games

Just to be clear, I will be to download the software. Download an ArmA profile and fire this up on my labtop and use the pointer like I would a touchscreen and it would have the same effect?
