To prove Bamboos point. I have the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 pro.
Not expensive by any means yet does the job nicely.

This should be out soon, and even though I have a top of the line cooler, with numbers like that I'm thinking of upgrading:

Corsair Intros Hydro Series H50 CPU Cooler

Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H50 CPU Cooler Will Be $79 --has video

Corsair shows off new Hydro Series H50 CPU cooler -another video

Here is the thread where I talked about it, as well as a lot of other tech stuff about to be released from the Computex show:
    Computex 2009

I based myself on a Dutch site who tested 61 CPU coolers and these 3 got the golden award (note that the article is from last year):

    Cooler Master Hyper Z600
    Scythe Mugen
    Scythe Orochi

I admit it 's big but that doesn't bother me, I can still replace my RAM and all the other parts without having to remove it. It is very quiet because of the big fan, I can't hear any difference between idle and stressed.

Played some ARMA 2 last night and I didn't notice as much difference as I expected after running the benchmarks.

Also though with that big of a cooler you do have to worry about the stress on the motherboard. If your computer is in a rock solid spot, and NEVER moves, then it should be fine. But if you rig gets bumped a lot, or you move it a lot, you have to be very very careful. It can damage your motherboard.

Not necessarily man. I have the "Big Typhoon" CPU cooler, and I don't have to worry much. My PC doesn't get moved a lot at all. Except when I dust it twice a year. That's about it.

I mean if the cooler comes with brackets then it should be fine anyways.

The thing I would be more worried about if your PC bumps around a lot, is the hard drive man :P Once the hard drive loses it's magnetic stage, it's done.

So i got around to trying the game last night and it's beautiful! Sad about the ingame voip not working yet and there are bugs somewhere since i crashed horribly and i run fine in other games. I'm hoping the new catalyst 9.7 will fix something for me, currently on 9.4.

But fps-wise i didn't have any problems, was a smooth ride.

Re: The UNofficial 'Will my PC run this?' thread.

just thought id throw this out there, i recently got a new HD4890 Vapor-X (Factory OC at 870, but can go much higher) and i was pretty surprised at the performance boost. Before on my 8800GTS i couldnt get above 30fps unless in an open field, and forests would bump me down to the 15fps range at times. Now i get about 40fps and usually not lower than 35fps with everything on normal except post-process on low (was disabled before) and textures on high. While ArmA still needs a fairly good multi-core processor to run, an upgrade in graphics certainly does not hurt.

    My specs as follows:
    Sapphire HD4890 Vapor-X
    Intel Core2Duo E8400 OC'd to 3.7gHz
    4GB G.Skill DDR2800 RAM
    Gigabyte EP-35 DS3L Mobo

I'm playing Arma 2 on high settings and 1440 x 900 pixels. Everything runs nice and smooth, but I wouldn't try go for higher viewdistance than 3000.

    My specs are:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual
    5200+
    2.70 Ghz
    2 GB RAM
    Geforce 9600 GT

I bought the computer at the beginning of last year and graphic card was the most expensive part lol.

    Win. 7 64-bit RC
    6GB Ram
    Intel i7 920(D0) - OC'ed 3.6GHz (as far as I know, I can't get accurate readings, but it's set to 3.6 via BIOS)
Nvidia 7900GTX (I know, *facepalm*. Am saving for a new card, any recommendations?)
Sure I'm only a wee Irishman who happens to be a Pathfinder.

Yep, read my guide about updating your PC for arma2.
It is a sticky up above this thread. Tells you everything you need to know to decide.
