surprised if you run a pentium d on a 250w psu because that was one of the most heat producing and energy wasting cpu ever, I had one

Do NOT buy an 8800 GTS it is crap. Upgrade to a 750 watt PSU and get a 285.

Grambo, you arn't going to be able to run anything on a 250w PSU. Look for something over 600w. That way if you do more upgrades in the future, you can reuse the PSU. If you look in our TG tech forum, one of the stickies I posted is about picking a PSU. If you need help picking one, will be happy to point at some good ones.

Are you running a store bought computer right now? If you have like a Dell or something, it might not allow for a PSU upgrade, and you will have to get a new case to go with it. Not really a big deal, just about 20 mins. more work. I would look into that and then start looking at a gfx. card upgrade.

And do NOT buy an 8800, or a 9800 for that matter.

Actually, a 285 isn't really the sweet spot.
A 275 is just about as good, and costs WAY less. The 4890 from ATI is also very good, and about $15 or so cheaper in a lot of cases.
Never buy the high end. Six months later when something new comes out you will be kicking youself when the price drops. Like when the 8800 GTX Ultra was in the $700-800 range, and a few months later was beat by the next gen cards that cost $150.

But have to throw out the reminder I post in every thread about this, the next gen cards are looking to arrive around end of Sept. or so, and from the early reports they will be pissing all over the current gens high end. I posted a link here the other day that people are expecting Nvidia's new tech will boost up to 2x-3x the performance of the current stuff.

I hate waiting as much as the next guy, but when you are talking about #s like that, it might be worth it. And I do have $300 burning a hole in my pocket right now I have set aside for a new card for ARMA2. I can deal with average FPS and/or med. settings for a few months if it means killer performance later.

Grambo, PM or post some links to shops you are wanting to buy from and I will point out some good ones. Jeepo knows a few shops in Ireland if you need some help with that. I have looked at the shops before, but don't remember their names.

Browna, as cheap as ram is you should go ahead a get 4 gigs (should probably just buy a new 4 gig kit to avoid conflicts, since it is only about $35.

Then play some, and if you want more of a boost, you could overclock that CPU up to 3.0 and probably not even increase the temps. Are you using the stock cooler from intel?
