I stepped up recently from a EVGA 8800GT. Loving ARMA 1 with the new card. Running on mostly high and very high on dedicated servers.

Get 4 gigs of ram and your CPU could be better but it should suffice.

I would look at the reviews and exact specs on both motherboards to help decide:

ASUS M4N82 Deluxe AM3/AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 980a SLI AMD Motherboard

ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Also, while the 2 video cards would both perform pretty good, the 4870x2 will put out more heat, and some games don't work great with crossfire, which is really how that card runs.

More RAM for sure. I knew that...but I thought that win xp 32 bit edition only recognized 3 gigs...??

As I said I'm thinking of an intel system by the end of the year and though DDR 2 RAM is cheap right now I'd hate to buy it only to have to buy another type of RAM not too much later on.

It recognizes 3.5 the other .5 is used for VRAM and such. It all gets used.

32 bit operating systems, only recognizes 4 Gb of ram in total. So if your graphics card as 512 Mb of ram, your system will only make use of 3.4 Gb of memory ram, if it as 1 Gb only 3 Gb will be recognized, 2Gb -> 2 Gb, etc.

As for your rig, you might want to try and pick up a new 4 gig kit of RAM. Lots of good deals in the 800mhz speed for around $30 after rebate.

You might be able to tweak the CPU up a bit if you have a good case with good air flow.

With the gfx. card, I'm thinking some med. and some lows, from what other people who have the game are saying. The 9800GT is actually just a renamed 8800GT with a new sticker on it if I'm not mistaken, so if you see others post about how their game is running with a 8800GT, that might give you an idea.

Runs ArmA1 on med to high just fine ( avg 20+ fps) except for some choke points (in dense forest) where FPS drop to about 5 or 6 ( Have a 4870 1G sitting in a box I haven't installed yet.)

Think it will work?
