Re: The UNofficial 'Will my PC run this?' thread.
@Obi
Should do decent, but I would overclock that 8200 to get a boost. And probably look at getting a new video card when the next gen gets released late summer/early fall. That would give you a huge boost.
@glenn
The agp x1650 is really going to show it's age on ARMA2, and that is a very strange amount of RAM to have. Might want to start saving up for a new rig if you really want to get some eye candy going.

Re: The UNofficial 'Will my PC run this?' thread.
x1650 is probably going to be about as much use as my nvidia 6800 will be
I hope arma 2 will run at 640x480 or I dont have much chance until I upgrade
I think just a new graphics card might do in a pinch but agp is pretty old and the best one available is a 3850 I think. Even that wont be so great for arma 2
Really you want a 4870 or better from what Ive heard. Wondering how low I can set view distance, maybe it'll play with 100 metres

Re: The UNofficial 'Will my PC run this?' thread.
Glenn, was looking at the rig, and at first was thinking WOW, good setup for the price. Then I saw the gfx. card. Huge fail. The CPU is good, and a good amount of RAM (depending on brand and speed of it), but the GPU is going to fall very short.
Also doesn't say what power supply, so I'm betting it is a cheap one that won't support a better card.
I think I am just going to start a new thread about current and future hardware that people can use as a guide if they are thinking of upgrading.

Re: The UNofficial 'Will my PC run this?' thread.
Im interested to know if Ati 4870 is generally better then the Nvidia 260 for this particular game.
It has 100 meg more memory and seems to reverse the trend of the 260 being slightly better normally

Re: The UNofficial 'Will my PC run this?' thread.
I thought my 8800GT would do alright, but I 'm quite disappointed so far... still playing around with the graphics settings. Does anyone know if there 's a way to enable anti aliasing ingame? The graphics options changed with 1.02 patch and there 's now an AA option but it just sais 'disabled' and I can't enable it. Think I 'll have to force it in the Nvidia Control Panel?
Also fillrate is gone now and has been replaced with 3D textures or something like that.
Not sure if I 'll be able to wait till the end of the summer to upgrade my vid card, might get myself an 4870/4890 or smth.Last edited by Ghost Dog; 06-23-2009 at 04:01 AM.

Re: The UNofficial 'Will my PC run this?' thread.
3d textures is the AA. If you put 100% it'll render at your chosen res but if you put 200% it'll render twice the res which then makes everything smooth when displayed on your screen
What res do you play at. This is a dx9 game so memory bandwidth matters alot I think, 4870 rather then 4850 should be good
4870 is like 115, which is more then my old 2900xt with its 512bit interface (expensive)
Should be a good upgrade for you being double in this respect, not sure of the baseline on other factors.
I think bamboo is probably right about delaying upgrade if you can at all. I was stuck on a 6800 so was not an option

Re: The UNofficial 'Will my PC run this?' thread.
if you want a good game to play right now, then i'd suggest project reality mod for BF2. This has a very large comunity here at TG,
if you could post your motherboard if you know what it is, then i can find a compatible processor and graphics card.
these are just ideas on what you could get
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=6&subcat=803
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...56&subcat=1403
these would probably work, but knowing your motherboard would be better

Re: The UNofficial 'Will my PC run this?' thread.
Masked, you can get a decent CPU/Video card upgrade for that amount. One problem though is if your motherboard is a Socket 754 type, you will be hard-pressed to update that CPU. If it's a Socket 939 type, you will have a little more choices, but still limited. You may want to consider a motherboard upgrade also, to allow you to use newer, faster CPUs. I'm sure browna3 can point you to some good deals on your side of the pond.
Opps, looks like he already did.
