Re: VON and its problems.
VON had already been reduced, twice in fact since the patch and still no improvement has been noted. Seems like we wait until it gets more efficient.....

Re: VON, TG & Arma 2
I kicked him because everyone had already been warned. I'll go more into detail if you'd like, just PM me Machina. Nothing personal.
Generally, complaining about the chat/VON span in the spam, labels your message as, also spam.

Re: VON, TG & Arma 2
Yeap not arguing with the system in place khan, but I think maybe if the co and admin can set the tone and remind everyone the sop for Von quickly during briefing would go a long way to establishing good comms procedure (including the current problem with local Von mentioned)

Re: VON and its problems.
Christ, first everyone complained that we were forced to use Teamspeak, now everyone is complaining about VON.
Nothing personal, guys, I'm just sick of all the negativity.

Re: VON and its problems.
I am not complaining BTW, I would love to see VON working, so I hope my post does not come across as whining as its meant to offer ideas for technical improvement.
I think the most bang for buck would be in QOS but the ARMA 2 developers would have to chime in, I understand they are looking in this direction for testing anyway?

Re: VON and its problems.
I personally just don't like the complete switch to VON and I can't see any reasonably reason for it, other than to stress-test the VON.
Aside from Direct chat, Vehicle chat, and for some occasions the automatically inherited Command chat, TeamSpeak is superior to VON, and none of the two systems is as good alone as they are in combination.
I guess I feel stronger about this as well because VON is completely useless for me to talk with. I can hear others fine, but all of you on the west side of the Atlantic can't hear me for shizzle. I break up like I don't know what, which I don't do on TS.
Yes, I've posted about my issues on the CIT, and I hope they'll manage to do something about it, because it really sucks if I have to have <40-50 ping to all other players for everyone to be able to hear me.

Re: ARMA 2 Communications..
As you can all see, I merged all the VON threads. Please do not start another complaint/moan/ whatever thread. We all know there are issues with VON, like anything new, so lets all be constructive, and leave it at that for now. If you have any problems, as usual contact an admin in game, in TS, or in this Contact an admin forum. This way we can deal with anyone who is creating those problems. Anymore complaining threads without constructive comment to the admins is going to be deleted, as I simply can not be bothered to read the same tired old stuff over again. Be part of the solution, not the problem.

Re: ARMA 2 Communications..
1. Update your Audio drivers. I have no problem with people playing from Europe hearing me.
2. I really do not want to say this but TS and VON might also cause some problems if they are using same output mode. if possible put one of them on wave and the other on Line or Midi. I still cannot confirm this. but since Arma1, some people with certain hardware had problems being on TS and VON at the same time.
3. Using a USB headset might also bring up your chances.
Again this is a total suggestion. If yours s working fine stick with what you have.

Fun, fun and more fun. But do not be selfish. Provide some fun and you will receive some fun.

Re: ARMA 2 Communications..
I'm really disappointed with VON. I can hear everyone perfectly fine, however no one can understand me. When I'm trying to say something, people hear only static noise and tell me to kindly shut up...
I really want to play very often with you guys, just like I got used to this. Because of my VON problem, I'm really starting having less fun in the game.
I'm not using TeamSpeak when playing and problem still occurs. Do you have guys any ideas what is causing this?

Re: ARMA 2 Communications..
I had a good session with VON last night and was able to keep a squad together and informed in most situation, some small non technical tips I have used:
Be ready to type when needed.
Learn the NATO phonetic alphabet and be ready to use it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_phonetic_alphabet
Talk with as much bass as possible in your voice.
Take pauses when relaying critical information for instance:
"Alpha squad **PAUSE AND TAKE FINGER OFF CHAT** is at grid reference **PAUSE AND TAKE FINGER OFF CHAT** zero zero one **PAUSE AND TAKE FINGER OFF CHAT** one zero zero"
This ensures you don’t "over run" the buffer (for want of a better description) and ensures that even if some information is lost most will be heard, in essence give the server a chance to catch up.
If you are squad leader recommend squad members only use direct chat when needed and not for singing / telling jokes / ordering pizza , if you are a squad member be sensible with direct chat as it’s the most "expensive" form of voice comms you can use.
Use a good microphone that is head mounted and use windows to calibrate the microphone (Windows XP and above)
Consider turning up the microphone level in windows audio control.
Attempt to create a gaming environment that does not cause audio loopback from microphone to speakers, sit away from your speakers if possible.
If you suffer from "umming" and "errring" like me try to give yourself time to compose what you want to say.
Anyone else got any tips?

Re: ARMA 2 Communications..
So you have no problems in other programs, like Teamspeak? When you use the Teamspeak "local test mode" do you hear static?
Wasn't azzwort having the same problem? Did that turn out to be a bad mic or something? He was transmitting almost solid static at times (like maybe a bad wire in the mic).
I just can't imagine why one (or maybe two) people would have constant static over VON when so many other people do not... seems like a localized issue to me. Maybe using a different audio driver when you start up ArmA2 than when you are on your desktop and in TS or something, or perhaps a short-circuit in a mic wire. Just guessing.

Re: ARMA 2 Communications..
My VON, to put it simply, "doesn't work". I've asked several times for mike checks and nobody replied so I assume I'm silent.
I see no options to do with VON ingame so I assume the game automatically selects what it thinks is best... I have a Creative headset which installs itself as a separate audio device which might be causing issues, but it's also the only microphone on the system and I can listen to it through Windows' sound options. Any ideas what might be wrong? It's Windows 7, if it matters.
