And suppressive fire is too ineffective in making you take cover, so you can pretty safely snipe even when fired at. It has to be changed in ACE to something like project reality, where your screen gets blurred when taking fire, and AI should react to fire better and engage at longer ranges. If you ACE guys are here please think about it, all other faults of the game combined are not nearly as realism-breaking as this. So far one man can take out entire AI infantry platoon with DMR or Dragunov and a little luck.
Not to interven but this is not correct, me and hash were taking fire the whole time, we just kept moving and displacing. We got flanked by the enemy twice. To be honest I was shocked how pissed the AI got at us and they deticated alot of guys to hunt us. We kept running away and coming back, keep in mind we didn't get all those kills because we were ignoring the weapon red status, when me and hash stopped firing a Ai squad swept the woods and found us, thus alerting the platoon in tyrone. It was fun how real the AI seemed that time. Also there was like a 30 min gap when me and hash were engaged and everyone else was talking so we had no choice.

Again, it is because it is a game. People sometimes overlook the reality that they exploit the limitations of the game engine. I'm not saying players do it on purpose, just that they forget or were not aware that the AI has limitations to range that do not always exist for the player. That's why I tried to keep my comment general to all weapons systems that have far greater range than the typical AI.

There is already an AAR thread started for the Sunday event.
Good point. I was trying to be more generic to leadership positions hence including other weapon systems and only using the specific event as reference. I did not mean for comment to apply specifically to this missions, but a greater commentary on how certain roles affect the great population.

I could be wrong, but usually RED status implies withdraw first and only engage if surrounded or cornered and face certain doom.

Yeah, I only brought up the other AAR forum because we have a new-ish group and I recall I personally wasn't even aware it existed for my first few weeks at TG.

Quite a bit of Arma 2 conversations happen in the other "Armed Assault" Forums. I just wanted to make sure that people weren't skipping them because they don't specifically say "Arma 2" in the forum title.

I should point out that the sniper rifle can be insanely destructive against poorly trained enemy infantry in real life. The only difference is that in ArmA2, the Ai don't take cover behind trees very often (although I've seen them do this on occasion) and don't immediately head for cover when being engaged by a sniper. However as mentioned above, THEY DO hunt you down with flanking and that is VERY realistic. I do this on TVT. When I hear that tell-tale single shot of an enemy sniper rifle, I tend to make it my personal mission to hunt that bastard down by flanking and coming up on his rear so I can whisper to his ear "EAT THIS SNIPER" as I double tap his head.

However with that said, yes snipers do make life easier. So does artillery and air support. But if replicating real life combat is the goal, then you need some snipers on both sides. We've had missions with some REAL nasty enemy AI snipers that wiped out entire squads of our players.

Hopefully in the ACE2 mod, the AI officers (or others) will pop off smoke grenades automatically when taking fire. That is standard procedure when taking sniper fire and it IS effective especially in urban enviorments. In open areas its effective depending on wind direction/speed and how many/type smoke nades are thrown.

But on missions like Ia Drang I got a record 52 kills. I played it with Dredge commanding the other night and we won it without the RECCE team and honestly, it was more enjoyable without the sniper because we had to work much harder to obtain a victory. What I would recommend is that for every mission that has a DMR, they replace them with a M24 bolt-action rifle. This is MUCH harder to get massive kill scores with as its slow to reload each round. With it, a sniper really has to think like a real sniper and make each hit count. So high scores with that rifle are truly EARNED!

    Just a suggestion.

There has been no hint of a date yet, and that's probably because they don't have the slightest clue themselves. I know that there still are some 'big things' to finish, but I don't have the slightest how much work we are talking about.

Considering all the vids we get it seems like they are finishing more and more features though

I'm hoping for a release at/around Christmas time... I believe the original ACE mod was released around that time as well so it would seem fitting hmm?

Of course, I don't know anything. Just wishful thinking =) I think that they should get all the ACE1 stuff working in ArmA2 before adding all the new fancy stuff such as gas masks and the like, but that's just my opinion.
