    TrackIR Fixer for FreeTrack.

Just a heads up to all the freetrack users around. The trackirfixer works at 100% with the beta patches and there is no need for proper exe's.

If you don't know what's freetrack, it's a free software that allows head tracking inside games. You can read more about it here: http://www.free-track.net/english/

Can I ask what this offers over the standard option inside ARMA 2?

There is no standard option inside Arma2. Freetrack simply doesn't work out of the box, nor do TIR1 and 2.

Im confused, are you saying TrackIR does not work in ARMA 2? I have been using it without problems since the day I purchased it....

since i can't afford trackIR right now, this would be a good option but i heard that freetrack is resource pig as opposed to trackIR which already had a built-in processor. Your feedback?

    Thanks.

I think I've seen it max out at around 5% of CPU usage with the average being 1-3%, so no it's not that bad(C2D E6400 @ 2.8ghz). I use a crappy webcam. If you use a Wiimote for your setup you can avoid even that because it has its own processor.

would it be as sensitive as trackIR? no lag or other issues?

I haven't used a TIR since TIR3 so I wouldn't know about the new versions, but my Freetrack+webcam+TrackclipPro-combo is definitely on par with that. There's no noticeable lag and tracking is very precise in all dimensions. Using the Wiimote you'd get on-the-paper specs just about equal with the newer TIR versions, but I have no idea how they compare in practice.

    Re: TrackIR Fixer for FreeTrack.

In fire baptise I use it with a Quadcore at 3Ghz and there is only a increase of 1/2% of the cpu usage. It mainly depends on the webcam you choose to use it with.

You can check my setup here: http://www.tacticalgamer.com/armed-a...vx-3000-a.html

With that setup, without removing the IR filter and with light in the room, I have a perfect game play without any lag our stuttering. You only have to do some tweaking in the freetrack profile, as you would do with trackir.

My best advice is, if you already have a webcam, just buy 3 leds and resistances and try it out, they will costs you less then 2€, and if then you think that the webcam sucks buy a new one. My complete setup was +/- 32€ (with the VX 3000) and it works wonderfully in all the sims I have.

Do a reading to the freetrack forums and you'll find allot of useful information there. Link:http://forum.free-track.net/

PS: Just a note to my setup, if I was doing it today I would have done a clip and not a cap. And I'm planning to do it, just not been in the mood lately.

One more vote for the clip from me. I'm using headphones so a cap was a pain in the ass, while a clip can stay always attached and you won't have to care about it.

Jorge, Fincuan suggested a wiiremote instead of a web cam, what do you think?

I never tried it, but reports say that it's the best thing you can get to work with freetrack. It gives you 120 FPS of tracking and that's pretty much what trackir offers you. Don't forget you'll need a blue-tooth usb dongle to get it working, and don't be tented with wiimote imitations because some don't do IR tracking.

Here you have a list of the USB bluetooth tested with Bluesoleil: http://wiibrew.org/w/index.php?title...etooth_Devices

EDIT: I found this comparison between a weabcam and wiimote at the freetrack forums: http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=1173

Good news, freetrack is finally officially recognized by BI and supported in ArmA2.

No need for the trackir fixer, just download the latest beta and enjoy!

    Beta patch here: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php
