We used to use TS before VON seemed to work. We got it to the point where it was bearable but the problem always became trying to listen to command chat and having people yell in your ear in your our sub channel.. but if you really think about it VON turns out the same way, the only difference being you can see who's yelling at you :P.

TS is awesome but the only problem is that if you wanted to talk to a member from another unit you can't and that's where direct chat is useful. VON is great if it worked for everyone but we all realize what a major failure BIS turned into. Apparently they never heard of the the quote "why fix it if its not broken". It would be cool if we could edit TS and mess with how its designed to work how we would like it too.

And what is it you want to say with that Marine? Just an example of the ChannelCommander function, or...? Not like the current channel setup nor player-attendancy on TS would make it workable just spontanously.

Yeah, Channel CO on Teamspeak works like a charm for larger-scale operations, including ones where not all players who need to have access to the command net are able to speak/listen to Command Channel in-game.

It's also good for when you're running a mission with 2 Platoons. All the leaders of 1PLT could sit in 1 Teamspeak channel, and the ones of 2PLT could sit in a different one. The two Platoon Commanders could enable channel commander on TS to coordinate with one another without interrupting their respective leaders' discussion.

Yep. Channel commander sure is powerful for coordination. A pity it's of little use at squad level atm

@ inkompetent why dont we work on changing that though?
We can set up a new SOP for comms for large events or large missions. If we take the aspirin now the headache wont be as bad later. Know what i mean?

Could be useful. But I dunno if it's a one-time event, or if the bandwidth upgrade we got in this area actually helped, but my VON has been understandable tonight

I am in support of using TS more. In game comms are nice, in that it provides an infrastructure to filter voice comms easily. That requires a little work using Teamspeak, but is easily achieved. However, in game comms on large player count missions can cause lag when the mission is pushing server performance in conjunction with lots of voice traffic. Team speak in general, in my opinion, provides more consistent and better quality audio.

viper, there is a stand alone application for TS which displays the name of the player in game who is currently talking on TS.

    Re: Large Game Comm Solutions

Mumble would be kickass and better than TS in basically all areas(except for no channel commander and no whisper but even those are coming in the next version), but remember that it's Tacticalgamer's TS server were talking about here, not the TS server of the Arma-faction. I find it hard to believe the whole TG would switch a somewhat working solution to another one just because it's slightly better. Maybe when TS3 comes out of beta or to public beta, which basically means TS2 will be left behind anyway, but not now.

That said I'd still hate to see the comms go TS/Mumble/Whatever external program, because that would require alt+tabbing in and out which means: Bring in the CTDs!

the current state of VON is broken, i can't hear others without cutting in/out people keep telling me that my voice is bad while it's working fine in TS and windows sound recorder. I wish there was a button to disable in game VON.

    Re: Large Game Comm Solutions

Erhem why not to make simple use TS and von?Use direct von in chat squad if u in need for saying something in your squad or to another squad.Use coms on Ts for Command,Sql and FTL.
    Try these:
numpad0:whisper to channel comand in ch. family
    numpad1:whisper to FT Alpha channel
    numpad2:whisper to FT Bravo channel
    etc.
In this configuration Commander of Operation only gets that info what he must get not all the blabling of drunken men in fire team alpha. And FTLs can use chat with ourselves not to disturbing Command channel if its no need for that.

    Re: Large Game Comm Solutions

You would really only need Co,SL,and other assets (arty, pilots) in TS. The fireteams can use their own so they can talk about everything. Fireteam leaders get orders from SL's who get it from the CO. So we only need the CO and SL's with an actual seperate channel. So how about this

    CO-SL, Teamspeak
    SL-FTL,Group Channel
    FTL-Team Members, Seperate TS/Direct Chat

and it will work the same on the way back up. So a FTL can start asking the CO 1 million questions. This can also help enforce the chain of command.

    Thoughts?

    Re: Large Game Comm Solutions

We-hell... Just had a nice hard-lock when alt+tabbing out of Arma in order to get on TS. It doesn't happen often, maybe 1/50 times, but often enough to make me really not want to do it unless absolutely necessary.
