    My only problem with leaving mods to the user is that not everyone one the server is seeing and hearing the same thing, and there is less of a shared experience maybe.

    Maybe make them part of the pack but allow users to change if personally they prefer the older/optimised ones. This way the majority at least will have the same things.

    Sound changes over the vanilla game should be left up to the user unless its a needed fix. (ie:l85 sounds).     Graphical changes should be like the sounds. Left up to the user. In order to run this game at a decent framerate (avg 25-30fps) I have to run everything at low or med with post processing off. Given how some missions overwrite the vegetation settings my frames drop down into the teens on certain maps. Anything that adds unnecessary effects is gona bog the game down for alot of people.
    they can be taken out, atm we just want to test slx as a whole with the server.

    once we have established if it works or not, we will then look into taking out pbos that arnt needed i.e the sounds etc

    I still dont understand why we are getting this crap shoved down our throats if we dont want them.. to be able to play on the servers. if you want this stuff, fine.. we should have a choice... This is being carried too far. What if I happen to like vanilla? What if my game plays better with vanilla? Are you forcing me off of TG servers if I dont want all this crap???? Where does this SHI* stop? Am I destined to be a Bravo server player because I dont want to go along with this?

    Well ive been playing with SLX in some single player missions ive put together in the editor. Its ok, I guess. The improved AI isn't quite as good as that one we have now if you ask me. The wounding system is cool. The sounds are terrible I think i cried a little. Ive already taken the sounds out of the folder and put my old ones back in. Didn't notice any new effects, I think my current effects mod is overriding the SLX one which is fine with me, I like my current ones. Only major bug so far is the AI still being convinced that there are E Inf in those trees and suppressing them for 30min. I guess after ACE1 was so good SLX just seems kinda bleh.

    I think the admins would have to be in a majority yes for it to go ahead.
    Just out of interest: Have you tried playing SLX yet?

    cheif its not mandatory, far from it. were only testing it to see if it runs on the server without impacting it hard.

    its only going to be used for Saturday night. then we will evaluate it from there

    A fix or a patch made by BIS, those I understand when I dl the patch, there is no choice.These addons made by others I should have a choice to add them to my game or not. Some of you may be smart as*es and say I have a choice, but not if I want to play on the TG Alpha server. There is crap in the TG pack that I neither need nor want and now you want me to add more if i want to play. I guess that leaves me no choice but to go as high in the chain as I have to for a satisfactory answer.

    Well, some parts of SLX can be used without danger of crashing the server or other clients. Some parts will need to be present on all machines. Completely depends on what is deemed good enough to implement.

    The bonus side is that SLX contains almost 100% by scripts and configs. The entire mod, which is vast, weights in at less than 20MB.

    So ChiefBoatsRet... if other members want to use mods, and there will be plenty when ACE2 comes, you think no one should because you don't want, even when you have the choice to play vanilla in bravo server?

    Yeah i think your totally over reacting. Whats wrong with having 2 servers, one that has the mods, and the other that doesnt? If you reply "Because theres allways more on alpha!" then why do you think that is?

    I was under the impression that once ACE2 comes out its going to be mandatory.

    im sorry chief but im not stressing enough the SLX IS A TEST! ITS NOT BEING MADE MANDATORY TO PLAY ON THE ALPHA SERVER

    its only being used for 1 night. for a couple of hours.

    As hard is this game is to optimize and all the problems there have been getting it to run properly is the only reason I have asked this question. I am not trying to be a As*hole about this, I was just looking for some answers as to why I have to load my game up with all this stuff in order to play with everyone on both servers. Jorge , I never once told you what you had to do to play Arma so why are you giving me crap.

    I understand where you're coming from, Chief. Unfortunately, vanilla has some pretty laughable AI, so any mod that makes an attempt to improve the intelligence of our computer opponents is a mod that I'm interested in testing.

    All the other stuff you downloaded, Chief? They are all mods that give our mission makers more tools to play with. They are, unfortunately, required because if a user does not have the mods used in a mission then they are booted from the server.

    Our aim is to make it so that the modpack isn't enormous, hence our extreme reluctance to make the ArmA 1 maps a requirement given how gigantic that download is.

    Just for clarification to Brownas past words.

    Testing the SLX mod for the weekend only, I got that.
    But if no one complained, and it works without a hitch.
    Will it become another addition to the TG Modpack?

    I think the latter is what it seems to be the confusion.
    Also, do we have a preset limit as to what size the TG mod pack will be?

    I can understand both Chiefs (and others that prefer KISS ethos with addons) and the Admins take on this (more content, more variety)
    But maybe in the future, this should be introduced by talking to the SMs,Pathfinders,TG Mission Dev team,Irregs,etc before it was forced unto us.

    Just so you all know, I'm sitting on the fence on this subject.

    However...

    Some of us who are SM's that only play ArmAII in TG, have no real advantages of being SMs in ArmAII. Besides supporting TG truly and Sunday missions don't count.

    IF we find the mod works we will have a poll and the community will vote. If the majority votes to have SLX in the modpack then we will include it, if not then it will not be included.
