Re: Voice communication: Using TS for Radio and VON for direct
I agree with the fail of VON. Looking foward to TS3 and hopefully some new features. Does anyone know whether it will be/ already is possible to change channels without alt-tabing. For example switching from command to squad like in VON by pressing , .

You all should be on TS anyway. How else would you get the password to Alpha?

Re: Voice communication: Using TS for Radio and VON for direct
It's not a matter of being on TS it is a matter of the SOPs of voice communication. Before VON was turned on a few months ago everyone knew that they had to be in a specific channel in TS to get their comms. If they didn't move after the briefing it was obvious they were afk or not paying attention. Now we waste a ton of time 'trying' to communicate with each other only to realize that, "Hey VON is crapping out. Ok, now to TS. Oh wait, people are scattered over 4 different channels in TS that have no bearing on their role in-game." Fail.
And yes, it is possible to set up key-binds to automatically move yourself between channels in TS without alt-tabbing. I think the guide on how to do that is posted in the TG SOPs. We just need the squad channels added back to TS.The Don Abides...

Re: Voice communication: Using TS for Radio and VON for direct
then please let's be on TS, VON is killing the game, i don't want to say "say again" every time my squad/fire team leader voice gets choppy! because several times i didn't know whether he was talking to: fireteam1, fireteam2, the whole squad or the commander and when i say "say again", he replies "i was talking to commander", frustrating. Why is it hard to concede that VON is broken!

Re: Voice communication: Using TS for Radio and VON for direct
Why dont we have a sit down with some of the SM's and the admins and hash out a new Radio SOP that uses primarily TS? We can still use VON though, it would be good for typing grids so you dont have to try and remember them when you are looking at the map.
So we can us TS for radio and VON for our notepad.
Thoughts?

Re: Voice communication: Using TS for Radio and VON for direct
I'm in favor of using TS, although it's somewhat frustrating to not have a Windows-7 compatible overlay available. When the new Radio SOP is created, can we please ensure that self-identification when transmitting is part of the protocol?

Re: Voice communication: Using TS for Radio and VON for direct
Yup, this should be standard procedure. "Command, this is Alpha lead..." for instance.
This is where we need some help. If one admin would be willing to volunteer...
Step 1) improve the TS channels with a permanent structure
SrvrA and SrvrB Channels
add 8 sub channels (do this by number ie-- "1st Squad" "2nd Squad", "3rd Squad")
add a 9th sub channel for command
DO NOT use "Alpha, Bravo, Charlie". It isn't flexible enough, and it becomes confusing later. Please believe me.
The TS structure would look like this:
SrvrA
|-Red
|--1st Squad
|--2nd Squad
|--3rd Squad
|--4th Squad
|--5th Squad
|--6th Squad
|--7th Squad
|--8th Squad
|--Command
|-Blue
|--1st Squad
|--2nd Squad
|--3rd Squad
|--4th Squad
|--5th Squad
|--6th Squad
|--7th Squad
|--8th Squad
|--Command
...and the same setup for SrvrB.
Flexible enough so the CO could designate teams to their specific channels during briefing in any way they like... for instance, the CO could decide to do this:
Alpha -> 1st Squad channel
Bravo -> 2nd Squad channel
Charlie -> 3rd Squad channel
MH-60S crew -> 8th Squad channel
CO squad -> Command channel
Step 2) create keybinds so players would not need to alt-tab out, and make the keybinds available for players to download and import into TS.
ie--
In a coop, everyone is already in the same "color" channel ie-- Blue. The CO says "OK, Alpha go to channel 1, Bravo go to channel 2, command move to command channel"
Each player in Alpha squad presses alt-numpad1
Each player in Bravo squad presses alt-numpad2
Each player in Command squad presses alt-numpad9
The squad leader of Alpha presses alt-ctrl-H to toggle "Channel Commander"
Bravo squad leader does the same, as does each player who needs to be able to listen and "whisper" to the command family channel.
Keybind for "whisper" is added too, just like before. Keybinds win, no one needs to leave the ArmA 2 screen.
In a TvT, players may need to first change "color" ie-- from Blue to Red by pressing alt-0 perhaps. Then players could split up into 1st, 2nd, 3rd Squad with the same keybinds as above.
Maybe alt-/ to switch from SrvrA to SrvrB. Then you would never leave the Arma screen ever.
The great benefit here is that
a) every TG player can download the keybinds
b) we're all using the same keys, so we're all using the same "language" ie-- "hey, press alt-1, you should be in Alpha, not Bravo..."
c) TS is like icecream (in my head, I taste strawberry)
This really does work (I didn't exactly invent this idea). All that is needed is for the admins to setup the TS channels as shown and I can provide the keybindings. Please PM me if anything isn't clear.
Any admins want to comment on this here or PM?

No way man.
I said Red/Blue, that says Primary/Secondary.
Totally different.

Re: Voice communication: Using TS for Radio and VON for direct
If we can get the channels set up soon I can get the Keybindings done. I have a few good ones for switching channels only using numpad.

Needing only one set of keybinds would be nice... :3
