    Re: Radio Discipline?!

    The only times I've seen in-game chat used is towards the end of a mission when it's close to being called, or when coordinating JIPs/respawners. Sometimes discipline slips on the radio itself, but we're only human. That said, I don't play as regularly as some (due to college), and I know I havn't been top of the class for these rules either.

    I think it'll come with experience with ACRE, and when people play more of the bigger operations. When it's a quiet night on the server, it's only natural to lax a bit.

    Hmm. I think that's up to every person himself.
    I personally would not respond to chat, because I want to talk and don't read the chat most times. Thats the reason for why I have TeamSpeak and ACRE installed, also its alot easier than always writing, and you can concentrate on other things, instead of reading and typing. But again, I have no problem with people doing it, aslong as it is limited to their "local area" around them, and aslong as it isn't "spamming" my screen.

    @Dredges idea:
    I would like that idea, but I hope that there are no kicks needed.
    Also I personally would limit the JIP-info to only one message, which only contains Grid Coordinates, and something like "Contact Command on 343 CH1". No information about enemies, situation, casulties and all that stuff. Only the information that is needed to regroup with the current Squad/Platoon.
    I think the situation can be explained to the JIPs "personally" if they have regrouped etc, instead of writing it visible to everyone on the screen. As said before, that could "destroy" the illusion and the fun for some people.

    Re: Radio Discipline?!

    @Zephyr

    While it could work I would rather avoid the situation. If you allow it in Helos others will want it for Tanks, or Humvees. Then we add in a stipulation for those. A month later someone says they should be allowed to use it while parachuting (maybe not but helps with the point) Where would the line be drawn?

    I say, only for the info I listed everything else needs to be TS. If you are having trouble reaching someone, rethink what you are doing or where you are. Send a radio on the ridge and get a signal. Can't hear in the helo? Talk louder or wait till you get on the ground.

    What dredge purposes sounds good to me, except that it didn't address map markers like I asked

    So now one line on side chat: "jips, proceed to 056 221. Check in with command on short range channel 6 upon arrival.

    Then on the map, a marker appears: "(X) enemies here. Jips keep south. Lol".

    Like I said, map markers are a form of communication and metres to be addressed in the same context as side chat rules.

    As for no vehicle text in choppers, we better start clamping down on acre local spam then, too. Otherwise it's going to be a pain.

    Re: Radio Discipline?!

    Didn't answer cause I didn't wanna! You cant make me!

    Map markers I'm fine with, as long as they are deleted once they are done "being used".

    I/E: JIP Jump on Ch1 343 current trid 123 456 marked on Map

    Thats all you need right there. But I forsee some trying to abuse it. A map marker named "Hey we are here grab some ammo and a new AT4"

    Re: Radio Discipline?!

    Re: Text chat

    What Dredge said about the text chats pretty much sums it up for me. That is the way it was, has been for a reason (years of trying out other methods), why it is being used in such manner.
    If players on a rare occasion that cannot use the mic, he/she may type in their lowest means first, then moving up towards the chain of command according to the SOP.

    i.e.
    A player joins as a tank crew. That player would switch to Group chat (green) to ask his superior of his join in progress status. If that doesn't work, the player switches to side chat to get in touch with the mission commander.

    Also, once the player has passed the player slot screen and the ARMA2 links in with ACRE. That player is essentially in ACRE world. Unless by chance someone is near using a AN/PRC343 on CH1. That player will be stuck being out of range.
    So announce yourselves before pressing "Continue" on that screen, if you don't get a reply follow the text methods.
    Also note that on the "slot" screen, your name will not show. So start your message with who you are; "Doritos, 1-1-F, Gunner for Abrams, JIP", "Doritos here, JIP. Which slot should I take/Do you need?"
    One of the most annoying thing is that the mission commander never replies to such simple logistical issues. Its a simple, "hey Doritos, we need a medic instead. Can you pick that? I'll send someone to pick you up in few minutes" JIP issue done.

    Re:Markers

    I believe that players should refrain from using markers. Unless you are the mission commander to relay the orders easier, you are the squad leader, you are the JTAC, you are the pilot, Recce/Recon, etc.
    Lower echelons should stay away from using markers, period. It clogs the map with unnecessary markers and sometimes, a major hindrance to the leaders.

    Using markers to announce to JIPs " (X) We're here, drive here with humvee from S" is too long winded and unnecessary. We have text chat to fall back on.

    ...more to follow

    Re: Radio Discipline?!

    If JIP is such a huge problem here (which it is, as platoon driver roles are largely outdated), why don't y'all use the following or something similar. Lets face it being plt driver sucks, and so does walking 800 meters.

    http://forums.unitedoperations.net/i...leport-script/

    This script adds an scrollwheel action for jips to teleport to their squad leader, action is removed upon use or 3 minutes of game time, if leader is inside vehicle it will put him inside the cargo, if theres no room the player will be informed of that and the player will have to try again later.
    Put this in your init.sqf in the JIP part, if it does not exist then just copy paste:
    Code:
    if (!isServer && isNull player) then //JIP player
    {
        waitUntil {!isNull player};

        [] execVM "scripts\initTeleportToSL.sqf";
    };
    scripts\initTeleportToSL.sqf
    Code:
    sleep 5;
    movetoSL = player addAction ["Teleport To SL", "scripts\TeleportToSL.sqf"];
    sleep 10;
    hintSilent "Use your scroll wheel to teleport to your squad leader";
    sleep 180;//3min
    player removeAction movetoSL;
    scripts\TeleportToSL.sqf
    Code:
    /*
    Move player 3m behind his group leader or into leader's vehicle
    By Megagoth1702, thanks to Sandiford and Cheesenoggin, slightly modified by ZZEZ
    */

    private ["_leader","_LX","_LY","_LZ"];

    //setting up basic variables
        _leader = leader player;

    //If leader's vehicle is the leader himself, move player 3m behind him

        if (vehicle _leader == _leader) then
        {

        //Getting the coords

        _LX = (getpos _leader select 0) +
                (3*sin ((getDir _leader) -180));
        _LY = (getpos _leader select 1) +
                (3*cos ((getDir _leader) -180));
        _LZ = (getpos _leader select 2);

        player setpos [_LX,_LY,_LZ];
        player removeAction movetoSL;
        }

    //If leader is inside vehicle, move player into vehicle cargo

        else

        {

        /*Checking if there is room in the vehicle, gives hint if there is none
        if there is room, player is moved into cargo of leader's vehicle
        */

        if ((vehicle _leader) emptyPositions "cargo"==0) then
        {hint "No room in squad leader's vehicle."}
        else
        {
        player moveincargo vehicle _leader;
        player removeAction movetoSL;
        };
        };

    I tested it, it works fine, I dug it up from one of Megagoth's missions, credits go to him/Sandiford/Cheesenoggin.

    It would be nice on seeder missions like domi or Patrol Ops. Other then that though, not so much.

    Re: Radio Discipline?!

    Heh, OK.

    Just to clear up some confusion: No it cannot be abused. Once you spawn at the SL the option goes away.

    There comes a time when you need to leverage real vs. convenient (I don't get how you can be against proper radio brevity and this JIP stuff at the same time ). At another community where I play you'll find that these kinds of things help in large player count missions. As you can see in the video below, it doesn't detract from our overall gameplay.

    Re: Radio Discipline?!

    Tactical Tuesday? Arg. Well thats unintended duplication.

    Anywho, I believe that more options to mission makers are good. Some will do well to have such dynamic deployment available and others will be better off with JIPs needing to get transported like everyone else. Cookie cutter solutions are always going to come up short considering the massive amount of variety that ArmA is built to allow.

    Pretty cool to share that stuff Acog. We'll probably get that into the script bin.

    Radio usage is something we can improve upon but getting there is half the fun. It's not like anyone needs to study up before the next round. We will learn from each other as we go anyway. I'll continue to learn while playing, and pass on what I know as well too.

    That sounds neat, acog.

    As for map markers: sadface at dredge's statement. I like to think of it this way: Acre have given us awesomeness that makes us want to limit von usage. Ace also gave us map tools awesomeness that makes me at least want to limit map marker usage.

    I get irked when a squad leader is reporting something to co, and the co instead of listening to the grid, and either writing it down or scribbling a mark with map tools just says "uhhhhhh, can you just mark it on the map for me?"

    That's just me. I may get irked but I still love you

    See I like a mix of both Balfa.

    "Enemy Patrol at grid 123 456 will mark on map"

    I still like getting the grids, but also markings are a great tool. Plus with Blue Force Tracker in modern military vehicles you can just mark it and call it up lol.

    Re: Radio Discipline?!

    RE: the script ACOG listed. Played on servers that use it, it's an awesome piece of kit. Or I think it was that one. I'll just go over the vague stuff that it did...

    1) You only had one teleport. After you'd used it, you had no more unless you re-joined.
    2) You had to use the teleport within a certain time of joining the mission, or it expired.

    Maybe there's some way I can butcher the script so it teleports people to set locations rather than squad-leaders, like outposts or something along a patrol route... Dunno, will look at it later.
