EJOD Desert 10/10/07
First of all....BRILLIANT game. The best I have had. Absolutely brilliant.
I would like to share this with you all.
The previous map was Assault on Mestia, and the "Militia" side had been losing in previous maps. Thats when I joined. I became commander, and led the militia team to victory. I would like to commend my team mates on that team.
Next map, was EJOD. The militia team of last round became the USMC team of EJOD. I started commanding again. Did the normal things. Squad 3 USMC became Armour (TheSKilledOne, I believe was their leader) and others became infantry. Built my command post.
I believe that the EAST CITY is the flag for USMC on this map, and I assigned my squads respectively. Those who have seen me command (maybe some of you) know that I am very vocal both in VOIP and in-game chat. I will often repeat orders and will keep updating everyone by just saying "S 1,7,6 EAST. S 4,2 WEST" in chat for example. I think the best position to be in for the USMC is to control the city. Get the Gardens, I said, "and the map is ours."
Since EJOD is such a meat-grinder and every ticket counts in that map, I only build ONE bunker at the back city flag. Gardens for MEC, Ruins for USMC. I built my customary bunker at the Ruins for the USMC.
A short while after, there was a twist in the story. I pressed the "END" button on my keyboard by mistake. It ended the BF2.exe process, and I crashed to desktop. Needless to say, I was very dismayed and annoyed. After pressing refresh 98 times (I counted), I got back into the server. I got assigned to the MEC team. I am not one to teamswitch, so, I decided to stick it out. Then, I noticed the MEC had no commander.
I became the MEC commander.
The situation was as follows:
The USMC (Team I formerly commanded) controlled the city (Ironically as per my orders). They had the Gardens. They had armour pushing up to North Desert. My team was in tatters. I resolved to turn it around. I said, "I led you into this mess by commanding the USMC, now, I'll lead you out."
And so I started.
At first, our armour kept on getting killed and we had no organisation. We did however, possess a 24 ticket lead. I kept saying, "It's not over till I say its over" trying to motivate my team. At first, I assigned two infantry squads, S3/S5 MEC to attack Gardens. They were getting slaughtered walking across the open desert. I was really annoyed. Then, an idea hit me.
"WHOLE TEAM: Hold NORTH DESERT. Preserve TICKET ADVANTAGE."
My strategy became, "Let them come to us." I assigned an armour squad and squad 4 became the APC squad. I managed to get the whole team of 31, to the North Desert to make a final stand. I got my armour in a defensive line and prepared for a bloodbath.
We did it. We managed to HOLD THE LINE. We even managed to extend our ticket advantage. By the end of the round, I had dropped 13 Supply drops on the North Desert. All AT's kits were manned. We obliterated their armour. I built NOTHING, I deployed NOTHING, in fear of losing tickets. I kept giving the team pep talks over VOIP and Team chat.
I can't believe we did it. To the USMC team that I commanded earlier: Sorry! To the MEC team that I commanded later: Brilliant comeback. I ate my own words as I said to the USMC team earlier, "Hold Gardens, and this map is ours." Once again, I commend the MEC team of that round.
I have screenshots....but I need to have 15 posts to post links...
EDIT: Second and third screenshots on Sabre's post are mine. He kindly posted them for meLast edited by Catraphact; 10-10-2007 at 06:25 AM.

awesome man its great to see commanders like this who use strategies, and to all the squad leaders that actually followed his orders: Thank You! This is what PR is all about!! Teamwork, tactics and strategy combining together to win, especially with the odds against you! Congrats!

I didn't know that. I was in a little building inside the North Desert flag, hiding, and looking at my omnipotent command screen

Also, did the USMC get another commander after I left so unceremoniously?

No there wasnt any replacement. The team was generally good, some good spotting. Not much got past on the flanks unnoticed
