Ghost Train 9/oktober: defense of north bridge.

I want to congratulate my squad and Sparks on a great round on ghost train.

I don't remember who all was in the squad. I know we had the rogue element emdek, drifterdave, some pubbie called Pretard .

The round started off pretty disastrously. I had a 3 man shovelsquad and we were stalking Sparks (co) as he seemed to be rather confused. He had set a Command post at the train (chinese team), and as he was trying to build his first bunker the enemy was already attacking north bridge through there and destroyed it.

So we went to repair it and the squad was full by then. We ran back to build the bunker, which was well placed.

Next our team was attacking both flags as we lost both of them. The enemy immediatly took the temple as well, before all our squads had pulled back. It was looking pretty dire, and Sparks resorted to something I have seen him do quite often. He was demoralized, stating that we had just lost the game, very short of berating the whole team.

I instructed my squad not to worry, and continue our mission to defend the bunker. The enemy destroyed it a few times during this phase of the battle, but we had a whole squad focused only on protecting it. This allowed us to rebuild over and over with 5 infantry providing cover. Using the spawn we guarded, our whole team relocated and retook temple and north bridge.

At this point we had repelled the first, and toughest attack on the bunker we were to face. Our whole team was back in the fight, morale was high.

Note to Sparks: If you get demoralized, keep it to yourself and issue orders and nothing more. I appreciate any CO, but I've noticed you do this quite often if the team is not responding adequately to your orders. I have this too, and I admit that I often quit CO when I feel I cannot contribute positively.
The thing is, you are the "commander in chief", the "decider" if you will. Whatever happens, you cannot show your negative feelings as it can have disastrous effects.
Kudos for staying during that though Sparks.

At this point in the fight the morale advantage was clearly ours, even though the Chinese had shown the ability to deliver a fast and fierce attack. They broken their teeth biting us.
PR is so much a game of morale, and it showed in this round.

For the rest of the round we had one squad doing a great job holding the north bridge flag, with us just north of that defending the bunker.

The enemy came in from all sides, from rallypoints and apc's and what not. We hunkered down at the bunker, watching all sides. Often Sparks would provide us with great intel ( usually in the form of: "I just got shot by a whole squad to your west" or I just got shot by 2 squads here" ). If this happened, I would let the dogs out and send our whole squad on a counter attack. Or sometimes we would just digg in and counter attack later. After a while we would know where they were coming from as they didn't make the effort to decently flank us. We repelled attack after attack after attack. The more they attacked us, the easier it got. Our squad cohesion was getting better and better. I could say "get back to def positions" and everyone would be there 30 seconds later, with all flanks covered.

Great moments were:
Pretard getting the HAT on my request, and dealing with an apc in 30 seconds, then switching back to an inf kit.
Emdek taking out a RP right on time before an other squad could flank us.
Numorous flanking of the enemy squads that were doing higly predictable attacks by then.
Excellent blitz attacks where our whole squad pounced on north bridge flag to clear it when some attackers temporarily pushed away the defenders there, then retreating , all within 40 seconds.
Taking the whole squad to temple for the end-of-game screenshot only to find it was at north bridge.

Our team certainly wasn't the best at the start. But high morale after a successful defense MADE our team and my squad the victors. There is a very strong correlation in PR between morale, and the responsiveness of your squad to SL orders, and of your team to CO orders. And it really showed in our squad with the blitz attacks.

This was one of the best rounds I've played, and shows too the value of a rare art in PR: defense of CO assets with priority over flag defense.
They didn't destroy it all round, and having a full squad defend a bunker was certainly not a waste, rather it was decisive in claiming our victory.

Importantly, I believe it was a GG for both teams.

Re: Ghost Train 9/oktober: defense of north bridge.

Im slightly confused but you were playing as brits on this map right, not sure but I think I remember this game

Sparks is pretty funny when he does that, of course the game can be stupidly frustrating.

Im a great fan of spearhead attacks and holding defensive lines (helps tickets too), well done
