Re: TG vs OpReal Scrim AAR

Funny you bring Shatner into this - I listened to King Henry The Fifth/Elegy For The Brave before the scrim to get my psyched up!!

AFsoccer, would you mind posting your strat (the overheads were so nice )

Sure. :-) We never got to play as MEC, but here is the STRAT plan for both:

"Hey guys,

If you received this message then you are either on the primary list or reserve list for the upcoming scrim vs. Opreal on SATURDAY at 2pm Eastern. I have been asked to be the CO and the following information is our STRAT plan. Please be on Teamspeak one hour prior to the match starting. This is especially important if you are a squad leader, if you have questions, or if you want to switch squads or somehow change up the assignments.

Since we only have 20 people per team, I've decided to create squads with 4 or 5 people so we can cover more areas, be more flexible, and fulfill specialist roles.

Squad 1: "Front Line"
Dirtboy (SL)
Ferris
<1sk>Headshot
Bernout
Mavrok

Mission: Maintain control of center of city. Prevent rally points in city. Maintain rooftop watch and alert CO of OPFOR movements. Set up ambush and choke points. Will attack West City when opportunity presents itself and tanks have control of west hills. Do not rush into West City unless we feel we can move on Gardens shortly afterwards. We want to avoid defending both East and West City.

Squad 2: "Defense"
d1sp0sabl3H3r0 (SL)
TheSkudDestroyer
Puff96734
Crawlingeye

Mission: Defend East City by maintaining control of raised area north of the flag. Prevent enemy firebases and rally points, while defending our assets. One H-AT is reserved for your squad at SL discretion to assist Sq 3 in taking out enemy vehicles. Report enemy movement to CO, especially flank attacks. Your primary mission is to defend East City so keep one person in flag area (maybe on a rooftop).

Squad 3: "Mech Infantry"
eGoatboy (SL)
Steiner
Dick Blonov
Cola88

Mission: You will be the cavalry squad, staying mobile and ready to close gaps in our defense. Will temporarily defend East City with Sq 2, if needed, but do not get bunkered down. Both APCs and one H-AT kit is reserved for your squad. Suggest one engineer as well (to keep APCs repaired and to mine/C4 enemy vehicles). Use hills to your advantage. May be reassigned to help Sq 1 if they are ordered to attack.

Squad 4: "Armored Div"
fuzzhead (SL)
TheGreatNardini
Portable.Cougar
Eol
Masterjack

Mission: Take and defend west hills. Stave off first wave of enemy armor, then establish superiority over west side of map. Both tanks are reserved for your squad. One engineer needs to keep both tanks repaired. Use of engineer vehicle is at SL discretion, but probably helpful as a scout vehicle. CO will drop several supply crates to keep ammo supplies full. Destroy enemy bunkers, firebases and rally points from a distance (they are likely to place assets at North Desert and/or Gardens). Prevent enemy vehicles from passing by you. Once the west hills are under our control, West City will be an option for attack.

Squad 5: "Combat Eng"
Elwenil

Mission: Start map by building CO assets and plus’ing up any squads that need it, to include repairing tanks, destroying enemy vehicles, mining roads, etc. After the initial support phase, you will transform into the reconnaissance and demolish person, destroying enemy bunkers, firebases, rally points, and their command post. Report enemy movement to CO so team can prepare to counter their movement.

The following list explains our strategies (they change very little whether we are US or MEC).

PRIMARY STRATEGIES:

- Armor superiority is extremely important if we're to get/keep West City. The Armor Squad will need to play defensively, especially on the first tank wave. Get to the hills ASAP and let them come to you. After enemy tanks are destroyed, maintain control of hills by being extremely vigilant of approaching vehicles. Do not let them get in the hills with you and do not let vehicles pass by you (between the hills and West City).

- The primary ground strategy will be to obtain and defend East City. We'll do this by sending Squads 1 and 2 to East City right away (CO and Sq 5 will get the two flags prior to that point, with help from the armor squad since their tanks won't be spawned yet).

- Once East City is taken, Sq 2 will control the high ground north of East City. They will defend the flag from there, while Sq 3 takes out enemy vehicles and Sq 1 sets up the front line and rooftop superiority.

SECONDARY STRATEGIES:

- The map will likely be a long one since there are only 20 people on each team. Thus our secondary strategy is to build CO assets and let them give us tickets. I have scouted out where the bunkers and fire bases will be situated. Due to the defensive posture, they will likely be in different places than you'd expect (slightly pulled back from the front line). It is important the SLs set up rally points that are closer to the action and only rely on the bunkers and firebases as a back-up. I will ensure everyone has plenty of supply crates to get specialty kits, etc.

- I will set up razor wire in slightly different locations as well, to help create choke points so the enemy has to come through Squad 1's meat grinder.

- Squad 5 will be a one person squad that will deploy behind enemy lines to destroy their assets (to prevent them from using the same strategy of getting tickets from CO assets). I will stay back at our undefended CO asset closest to the enemy to prevent them from destroying ours.

The following maps help explain our strategy. Striped areas are only representative examples. SLs, please know your mission and deploy your squad as you see fit, using the kits you think will be most effective, with the exception of the H-AT kits (one is reserved for Sq 2 and one for Sq 3).

The first map shows our basic strategy, as well as placement of bunkers and fire bases. Also note the two-quadrant area that is marked north of the East City flag. Controlling this area will be critical for the entire game and is assigned to Sq 2.

The second map shows our placement around East City when we are USA.

The final map shows our placement around East City when we are MEC.

Initial Roll-Out and Vehicle Assignments:

APC 1: Squad 3
Transport Sq 1 directly to East City.
Sq 1 members, don't get in APC unless Dirtboy is in there.

APC 2: Squad 3
Transport Sq 2 directly to hills above East City.
Sq 2 members, don't get in APC unless d1sp0sabl3H3r0 is in there.

Vodnik/Humvee 1: Squad 3
Transport H-AT to east hills to watch for enemy APCs.

Vodnik/Humvee 2: Squad 4
Capture first and second flags, then return to base for tanks.

Engineer car: Squad 4
(spawns at 3 minute mark)

Tank 1 and Tank 2: Squad 4
(both tanks spawn at 8 minute mark)

If you have any questions, just send me a message or wait until we're on Teamspeak.

See everyone on Saturday!
