    snake eyes 12/11/07 8pm PST

very close round! lots of wacky things happening all I can remember from that round was a lot of mad scrambling by everyone on the USMC side struggling to hold onto our flags and somehow getting bleed to win the game by 20ish tickets.

so for people saying that the teams were unbalanced by number (UKR was down by a few people at the start): yah yah so if the USMC had a bunch of extra people at the beginning, i'm sure less than half the team actually spawned in so that's not a big deal. plus UKR did all the right things, having squads up at the front on the south AND north, bringing up all the armor, having arty firing, etc. so in my opinion it was a pretty balanced round.

what I felt we DID have was a ton of good luck!

so this is how the opening went (had to take a look at the battlerecorder file to figure some things out)
    1) luckyshot took a boat and raced north (even though our commander was like wth?!?!?! go south!!!!) I got into this APC (cause I spawned late and wasn't the driver) and the driver chose to go NORTH TOO! lucky got there first and drew most of the fire from the defending squad. meanwhile I ride along in the APC waiting to get blown up while we went north. I saw 2 rockets whiz by, a few meters from the APC (phew) and then i decide to exit at the wooden docky thingy in the middle of the map. then I get lucky because i exit from the east side of the APC so I was blocked from most of the view and bullets.

    2) I race up the ladder yelling to my awesome squad: I'M ON LAND I NEED FOUR MEDICS AND AN AT and 4 medics and an AT was all i got I was support so I told them to throw smoke and get to solid land FAST. lucky was still on the north side at this point but his entire squad died soon after. my squad got to land but there was a tank waiting for them, as well as snipers/infantry. luuser got lucky and dropped a single mine over the side and the tank ran over it meanwhile my squad kept reviving but died halfway up the slopes. except for one.

    3) Gahlas decided he would be awesome and cap Lobby all by himself while the rest of my squad spawned in again and distracted the defending squad on the shore. No one was home at lobby so we got that flag, lucky's squad spawned in and the USMC had landed!

and then from there our squad pushed down to outpost after OKing it w/ the commander. we cap that with some resistance, but for the longest time I felt like we were pinned at these two flags even with the armor helping out. Eventually we did cap hotel and get bleed, but it was a very close game all round; UKR pulled ahead midway when we only had 2 flags (and sometimes 1 neutral before we scrambled to get the flags back), and halfway through our commander resigned so the squads were all over the place and I thought that was the end of that.

Good job to luuser, Gahlas, kil, mintonmonkey, and swat12447 for an INTENSE round

That was a good round. Our squad followed the route we plotted and we were a couple smoke grenades away from clearing the cliff. The second time we were instructed to move to the south beach death zone and delayed spawn when we saw Gahlas snagging the Lobby. From there, we were instructed to hold until about mid round and were doing so quite successfully.

Around mid-game we were instructed to sneak around the right side of the map, but I informed the CO that an APC had that side locked down and there wasn't enough obstacles for us to sneak. If we could get a tomahawk strike on the APC then we could make it. Mag informed us that no tomahawk player was available and dropped from the CO position and took the Tomahawk over pleading for someone else to step up. At that moment, the lobby fell behind us and we fell back to retake it. Whether Mag took out the APC or not, it didn't matter as it was right back where we saw it last when we looked to move out again. About that time the US had captured 3 flags and bleed (The US had 3, the Ukraine had 3 yet the Ukraine bled).

This is where the defense of the Lobby became the most difficult as enemy soldiers were streaming towards our flag from the hills above and had managed to put a squad on the building next to our flag. But our squad held tough and we gutted out a tight win. Props to the guys in my squad, Gooder, Khaerus, Pjaronex, Over-Y-Gen, Ikonic and for a little bit Not One of us. Also, nicely done to Thundeer's squad for grabbing that first beachhead.

Hopefully the biggest takeaway from this will be that you don't have to go to the beach flag to start with and there are different ways to win.

    Lucky Shot

    wow. awesome round.

I remember when the map loaded up i was rather surprised because it was going to be the second time I played usmc on this map (my first time was during the infamous firstusmc victory on the map).

I was really impressed with our team during the setup time: we had a commander immediately (props to magonushi), namebot had the arty squad set up with one other person as squad 1, we had lucky running a fifth squad as squad 2, squad 3 was led by I believe raunchyberd, squad 4 was thundeer, and braided had another squad going as well.

the CO told everyone to go south, and said he would mark targets for the arty squad.

I remember the tension being completely different from a normal round: thundeer was more assertive than usual and I was definitely a lot more talkative and almost turned into a backseat SL apologies to my squadmates, you guys must've gotten tired of me yelling "smoke!!" and constantly questioning thundeer's decisions; I definitely don't talk as much normally.

I tend to agree that we relied more on luck than anything: thundeer bailed the apc at the right time and got on land, the tank that was waiting for us slid down the slope and ran over my mine, and Gahlas decided he would be awesome and cap lobby by himself after the rest of us were all gunned down enroute.

I think we made great use of the tactics bane wrote about in this strategy thread: our initial assault on the bridge was done under the smoke of four medics, and our later assault on outpost was also done in the same way, with smoke out and everyone moving together and not staying still.

Our commander resigned halfway through the round due to the TLAM being unmanned, and I believe it caused our team to stumble a bit in terms of cohesion as we had only one flag at one point, but once we got it together (somehow , great job to the other squads) we managed to get lobby, outpost, and hotel, while I'm no strategist, seems to be the optimal configuration.

Highlights: my mouse battery dying on me as we capped outpost, causing me to be an easy target for mantis and his AM rifle. major props to him and his sniping spot on the tall building south of hotel: you made our squad's life very miserable. I'm assuming the squad constantly trying to get behind us and to outpost had something to do with you

Major props to SL thundeer for some cool thinking, props to kil for getting mantis off that roof , MAJOR props to gahlas for being a onemanarmy and capping lobby, and doing some great communication despite being micless, and props to SWAT and monkey for the medic work and smoke.

not quite a typical round of snake eyes as the beach assault was a total failure but we pulled through somehow.

I highly recommend watching the initial assault via BR: I watched it three times before knowing what actually happened with the other squads.

    ...

    Gahlas for MVP!!

    - Player count was about 22 vs 29 at the start
    - UKR wasn't too organized - north was pretty weak - no one used the south "free kills" tow
    - ticket bleed has always been incorrect on this map. Destroyer is being counted so USMC gets bleed with only half the land flags.

Regardless...I am glad that stuff happened cause it makes the map enjoyable. I was having a blast sniping but kil ruined my fun...still not sure where he came from.

I joined the round late in Braided's squad. For a while, we were trying to give UKR free tickets. We repeatedly hopped in a jeep trying to get to the back flag only to be met by tanks and mines. At one point (through Braided's frustration I think) Rockford and I got left behind. With the objective so far away by foot, I followed Rockford to Motel (which was lightly defended for some reason). We took the flag and died just as the round ended.

Even though this map has the horrid potential to be a lopsided grind, I like it. One needs a certain amount of adversity to make the wins that much more enjoyable.

This is definitely the first time I have had fun on Snake Eyes, on either UKR or US.

Holding down the beach was tons of fun in the tank towards the end of the game, thanks for the constant repairs luuser. The UKR arty did an awesome job of keeping our armor back. Great round all-together, fantastic squad leading thundeer and all the other SLs too. I hope this map plays out like this more often.
