POE2 - Spies Like Us (1/4/08 approx 9:00EST)
This was a classic example of why you follow a squad leader, no matter what! I'm sorry I don't recall all the men in our squad, but we were lead brilliantly by Van_Deutch. German Team, and at the outset, he ordered attack on Bunkers. I valiant goal considering its locations. (32 player map, so its really close to the UKR UCB.) We just kept hitting it, attack after attack... never jumping to another flag, never wavering.
Van_Deutch decided this was our squad's Flag and would not be deterred. He floated around the northern woods as spawn, and we just kept hitting Bunkers. I was playing support, but had little time to resupply anyone. a couple times when Van had been discovered I spawned at launch site, and pushed due north, a bull rush. I got so close to bunkers at least 3 times, I was 'sniping' UKR forces in the back as they rushed out to engage my squad / teammates. each time, I appeared to be discovered by a grenade : ). I'll admit, a couple times, I thought this is futile. We've got 2 flags, they are bleeding, lets just drop back and defend. I never said anything / suggested it. We got our final push through... some pubbie had sniped me with a sniper rifle, surprise surprise. So I was busy bleeding and wasn't part of the forces that pushed through and claimed bunkers. 3 flags held. Van_Deutch had his Flag. Good work.! A team win, and for me?? oh yeah, I found that pubbie that sniped me... and he finished the round with a 50 cal support machine gun slug in the head. We all win! Thanks Van_Deutch, You lead a good squad, stuck to the goal, achieved the goal... and taught me another lesson in SL. If you want it, make it happen. Other squads will constantly change objectives, more often confusing their squad or having them running all over the place. death comes to those. It was a great night, a great round... I never really do well on the infantry only maps. feels good. Thats not to say other rounds weren't good too. Khareus and his Armorclad dual-flag defenders. It was a pleasure squading with you guys too, Khareus let me have a tank. genius, or foolish... you decide.Spies though, set the tone. Follow your SL. Follow your SL. and one more thing... FOLLOW your SL.

Re: POE2 - FALLEN (1/4/08 approx 9:00EST)
I missed that "Spies" round, but it's good to hear you guys had a good squad going. I had a lot of fun all night (well, except that 1st round of 'Kerch'... Man, I had to listen to Axis tell me to "take a deep breath" as my squad went willy-nilly, lol. Has anyone ever gone smelting? I felt like I was lead smelt, trying to get his buddies out of the net. I shoulda 'swam down.')
Anyway, there were a lot of good rounds played, and I had plenty of great squads... Dnister River: We Ukes got whooped, but we made it into something I was proud of by the end. My guys finally got through and capped and held that west bridge flag in textbook fashion, and that started the dominoes: the Ukes capped all but one of the flags by the end, and we got some good bleed on the bad guys, but it was far too late, and we still lost by 150 or so. And Northernco gets special mention as "sniper who annoyed me mucho." I'm not sure how I sometimes forget that snipers get claymores, but I do. The 'Odessa' round PB mentioned above was probably the best team-wide performance I saw all night. Our squad was using a lot of armor to watch Lighthouse, Powerstation, and lend backbone to forays into the docks and overpass when necessary. Robocop did a great job at lighthouse, mostly alone, and had to keep telling me it was "only arty" that killed him... I was ready to send the whole cavalry in when I saw him die but missed the tag line... And I forget who's tank was the haven for the guy who sniped me, but that was pretty funny- some sniper actually shot me from underneath one of my guys' tanks- and then got squished. And, please, nobody mention this to ParkBench, but I gave EVERYONE a tank. With that kind of firepower on my side, I'm free to go off catching butterflies... SnakeEyes, I won't mention, except for this mention... I had to leave my squad to deal with some 'chopper thieves' in PR, or something like that. Our US team did get a horribly slow start, though, and didn't have immediate Arty/CO support, which doomified us. Bad on this round. Come to think of it, there were a couple of mind-numbingly bad RIB-pilots in this round, too. ("Yeah, let's ride this baby STRAIGHT into that APC! YeeHa!") "Fallen" was great fun, but we had a lot of Zerging going on, much more than usual, and I couldn't figure it out... we had a lot of regulars SLing, but we couldn't settle down into a defensive pattern. For instance, we'd often have 3 flags on the south side of the river, and have guys running at North cabin, rather than staying put and riding bleed, or concentrating on gaining that 4th flag on our side of the river. Our Uke side won, but it was closer than it shoulda been. I do want to give some props to the guys in the "Whatever Dumb Name I Gave my Squad this Round" Squad for sticking some tight D on the Mill/South Cabin/CrashSight zone. Anyway, lots of fun last night. Thanks to the guys who played. |

Re: POE2 - FALLEN (1/4/08 approx 9:00EST)
I didn't start playing last night untill 11:30pm in the middle of another Fallen round. I was on the losing team most of the night but it sure was fun fighting and trying to pull our team to victory.

I do think I'm getting better at driving them though... on odessa I had to keep backing up as I was slowly sliding down the small incline I was on. Watching to make sure no one was coming in over the bridge or via water. 1 if by land, 2 if by sea style.
