AAR - EOD - Midweek Modness 1/16/08

Well it was another fun-filled night of Midweek Modness... postponed due to tech issues last week, we experienced the rice patties and jungles of Vietnam. This isn't the typical AAR as the maps and actions aren't really reviewable.

**I will take this brief moment before going on to encourage anyone & everyone to get into this mid week modness. Its a good time, and a chance to try something different. Its good to loosen the tie / cravat a little from time to time. 6 days a week on PR, POE, and FG, TG runs excellent teamwork, mission driven servers. 1 day a week, you have a change to watch Lucky Shot and myself bungie jump without bungie cords. Come on out next time, give it a shot.**

ok back to it...

EOD is a Vietnam centered MOD, and was really done well. Early in the evening, a couple of the DEVs were on with Lucky Shot and myself. It was great to carry on conversations about the MOD with the guys behind it, while trying not to get sniped by their AI bots. (Things usually get going around 8:00pm, and I usually try to jump in at 7:30pm just to get an idea of the differences in kits and weapons and the landscapes I'll be dealing with.)

The maps are creative, interesting and I dare say challenging. The weapons are appropriate, and well designed in the timescape. The voice overs pretty good (Hell yeah!). (lots was said about some sound issues, and i guess thats something they are working for next release.) I took a liking to the LAW, mostly due to the reload animation its the little things. Its intended for tanks of course, so sniping infantry with it left alot of splash to be desired.

there were a couple of times the humans were pushing down / up a trail, and moving nicely. smoke out, grenades, and then machine gun laying down cover, and moving quite well. That was fun, even if it only lasted a short time.

a couple bugs... I got stuck in a tower defense shotting a 50cal machine gun, but the explanation made perfect sense. Then Khaerus helped me shed my mortal coil.
You and the AI sometimes switch 'skins' performing different actions, which was odd. but details like the pack if cigarettes in the helmet were cool.

I look forward to playing the next release of EOD. This is very promising.

Damn terminator-esque AI. dang! please, anyone else have thoughts?

Re: AAR - EOD - Midweek Modness 1/16/08

I had a great time with this mod. Gunny and his guys have done a good job. I'm looking forward to the next release too.

I was especially pleased to find how the weapons grow on you- when I first tried the mod a week ago, I couldn't hit anything with an M16. Last night was different. Some of the heavy guns seem to lack a little punch, but I think I'll learn to use those as well.

The map design is quite well done, too. Next time we play, though, let's ditch some bots and see how tense it gets stalking human players through a rice paddy- ie players who don't have the x-ray vision and get all twitchy!

EOD is one of the better mods of those we have played. Currently, it features almost all infantry combat but Gunnie was talking about some real cool things in the next release including a series of jets, helicopters, tanks, and then also Napalm which would be phenominal. In terms of gameplay, we had about 15 people tops but filled the server up with bots. Those particular bots, I turned down the settings twice and they still were extremely challenging. I was able to get around on Dawn of the Rice Paddies though by covering myself with mud so that the Predators couldn't see me.

Overall, I really enjoyed the mod and thanks again guys for showing up!
