WOW! just freaking WOW. This MOD is awesome.
"This is my second favorite mod for BF2." - Khaerus hit it right on the head. crap out of the way first... I loaded in at about 7:30pm EST. bots a plenty, I spawned in, ran about 50 years, went down. Spawned in, ran about 20 years went down. chit chatted with Lucky over TS about the state of the bots. Spawned in 2 steps went down. ARGH! There were some technical difficulties early on. Easily summed up by Lucky "If there is one thing I'm good at its crashing the server." Once that stuff was out of the way, mostly turning off the bots and ramping the maps down to 16 players... things were a GO! The landscapes and Map renderings were simply awesome. Maybe cause I'm a New Englander, but I loved the map contours, and the tree selections. (as was pointed out, often in the other mods, the desert gets to you... "they say people go crazy on these long trips.. they getting SPACE MADNESS!" for you Ren and Stimpy fans... The city / building scape in OPK are even done well. I think I saw a David Hasselhoff poster in a teenagers bedroom in one of the houses, and the poster wasn't gray. It's always amazing what survives in war. but I digress, colors, colors... Stop signs were red. Visually, aside from the shooting, I could've spent a good amount of time walking around and looking at the detail, in this 'world'. Waterfalls with water splash. Billboards with advertisements. I can't say enough about the maps. The Sky wasn't dark and cloudy all the time. I've never served in a military conflict, but some of those days, when you have to fight an enemy force, I'm guessing its sunny. Birds are singing in the trees. you know a nice day... aside from the firefight. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong. The guns were nicely done as well, several commented on the kickback. (again, I've not served and I've never shot a real gun, everyone has seen the girl get pwned by the handgun, kickback hits her in the head, yeah replace her with Dante Hicks from CLERKS, and it might be me.) Everytime I heard the G3 is great, I had to fight off my Macintosh Geek side, it wanted to jump in, yeah the G3 was a great processor. oh boy, I've had too much coffee already. the Guns, yes the guns were pretty good. The body armor equally good. Lucky Shot hit me with about 20 saw rounds from so close I could feel the heat from the barrel on my nose, and I brushed it off, and shot him back, and got the kill (ok that was just wrong.) the guns were pretty accurate. I never take a sniper kit as everyone knows, but I do like to hide and snipe with less than ideal weapon options, like a saw. The Vehicles were pretty cool. Dingo style trucks moved a little slower than in POE, but the fast mover jeeps hauled! The roads were more defined, and when I hit the highway with a fast mover, I imagine it was like battleracer. They turned off the zoom scope on the dingo, and for good reason. A couple times I grabbed one of those trucks and set myself up in a pretty good spot to lay down fire as my squad moved on a flag. If I was able to scope in, that would've been an unfair advantage. Enemy name TAGS do not appear above them, but friendly tags do. so thats pretty cool. tough in close combat situations. but, checking the mini map quickly before firing, and marking targets. I love mis clicking in the spot targets rose, and shouting out "enemy boat spotted" on a map with clearly NO BOATS. oops. My final round was a city map. 5 flags in a square battle area. 4 corners and a market place sort of off to the west of center. A sewer/drain line runs down the dead center of the map, and 2 bridges cross this sewer / drain. However, there are also stairs leading down to cross the drain as well. By this time of the night we were down to 5 on 5 or 6. Single Squads. K mentioned this was a map he wanted to play, and I was more than happy to have him SL, as I had no idea what was going on. We started with the 2 western flags, and moved on market place. The market place flag lives outside the front door of a church on a street lined with vendor carts / booths. I got on the flag, just after the first wave of my squad pushed further north. The opposing force saw them and engaged them more directly, leaving me in a sort of direct target line (the flag) flank. The flag was there objective, but they were forced to engage members of our squad to the north of my position. I was shooting at prone bodies aimed at my squad-mates, WHILE I was at the base of the flag flipping it. A good rush by them, started pulling MY flag down, but we were able to squelch that assault and recapture the market. And this is when things got good. K sent Rockford and myself to the northeast corner flag. Maybe he'll have a different take on this, but Rockford and I just hit a stride. Every time one of us took fire, the other was in a close but flanked position to the enemy gunman. While we were capping this flag K had sent 2 other squad members to the northwest to retake our flag that had fallen. K spent the round running back and forth in support of each or the 2 - 2 man fire teams. Rock and Roll, I love when things work out like this. Spawning on SL and never being too far from your 'wing' man. a great round, a fun map. So... to sum up. Operation Peacekeeper is a great MOD. I look forward to playing it again. But what makes the MODNESS nights is the people. Another great bunch of guys attended on wednesday night. I know its a pain in the ass to download the MOD client file each week, and heck 1.2 gb can take a while even when you're on the Fat-Pipe that I'm on at work, but midweek modness brings a bit of a change to TG. The core of TG is still there, but on a normal POE night, and certainly not on a PR night you won't hear someone in the Team Speak channel spookily calling "bench... where are you?? I'm coming for you." and I'm sorry for those that did/do play, and you don't have mic / Team Speak. Get yourself on that. the TS channel is half the fun of the night. (my headset was cheap.)see you next time - -ParkBench cub reporter for TG Modness Weekly

Re: AAR - 1/30/08 - Operation Peacekeeper MODNESS
Great write-up, Bench, and I'm glad you liked that mod. I do think OPK was the first mod I ever played, but whatever- I've always thought it was great.
I'll start with the bad- the maps, while absolutely fantastic, seem to suffer from some mesh weirdness once in a while. I know Lucky and Rockford spent some time on this after most of the rest had left, and I think they decided that rather than the guns behaving oddly, it was the maps and invisible walls causing some odd behavior. That fits with things I've noticed, so I'll roll with that explanation. By no means does it affect my enjoyment of these maps. Maps: there are so many good ones but here's a few notes on my most favoritest. Border infiltration: my favorite. It reminds me so much of northern Michigan. That's the 1st map we played, where I was Bench-hunting, before Luck thought it might be crashing him... I wish I'd remembered to reload that one. Bench gave a good rundown on our Village round. This is a very dense, well, "village" after all. Lots of alleys, stairways, enterable buildings, tunnels, etc. That one did work out great for us, the way our crews were running. It helped that I knew the map a bit already, just like it did for.... The Monastery. Not. I couldn't remember enough about this map to guide my squad well. I remembered enough to get us in trouble, as it seemed to me. We won this round by coming back from around 20 down for a 10 tix win, if I remember correctly, but even that victory wasn't quite as much fun as I had hearing people talk about the map... This monastery is a pretty big medieval building, with destructable/repairable gates and all sorts of nooks and crannies. If any map deserves a single-player walkthrough, this is it. Anyway, it's a great mod and I'm glad some guys got to discover it. I'm sure we'll play it again. And sorry, Bench, but I don't have that screenie- I forgot to save the scoreboard shot, I guess.
