Re: QinLing Scrim Results
I had a few requests to post the STRAT Plan that was sent out on Jan 23 to the participants. There were a few changes made after it was sent (i.e. roster changes), but here it is:
STRAT Plan for Scrim vs. Coalition of PR Clans This PM has been sent to squad leaders only and contains our STRAT PLAN for the scrim on Saturday, February 2 (which is a week from this Saturday). Please review the plan carefully and let me know if you have any questions. It is then your responsibility to forward this message to the members of your squad (with any additional information specific to your squad). Also, please try to get your squad together prior to the scrim to conduct a run-through so that everyone is familiar with where your squad’s vehicle(s) will be, where to get their kits, practice use their vehicle (especially the tanks, Apache, and mobile AA), and where to initially set up on the map. It will also be good to establish vehicle pair-ups. The ones I’ve listed for the tanks are just suggestions. You are free to re-assign people’s duties within your squad as you see fit, as long as you are still fulfilling the duties assigned to your squad. Overall Mission and Doctrine This map is all about teamwork and using force multiplying tactics. This includes using each of our assets effectively and to have the right tool on target as quickly as possible through effective communication. Just as in real life, each asset has strengths and weaknesses. For example, a tank is great against vehicles but a sitting duck against a jet. Mobile AA kicks butt against a jet/helo, but will never win an engagement with armor. We need to take advantage of the "Achilles heel" that every asset has... and on the flip side, make sure our assets have the appropriate support to counteract their own weakness. Teamwork and using assets appropriately will be our overarching doctrine. As for more specific strategies, we will start with two. The first will be to capture and defend Coal Mine. The other will be to focus on countering their air support right from the beginning, with the goal of establishing air superiority. Since war is fluid, other strategic missions have been discussed, but they will be implemented by the CO as the opportunity presents itself. Squad Assignments ![]() This is the overall squad assignment list. As you’ll notice, specific vehicles and kits have been assigned. The roles of your squad are further explained below: Roles (by Squad): Sq 1: JETS Establish air superiority first and foremost. Try to pull enemy jets into the area where our AA can help shoot them down. See map below for AA areas. Once enemy jet(s) are shot down, you’ll be tasked to bomb lazed targets (armored vehicles, defensive positions, etc.). Sq 2: APACHE Remain low-level and northeast of Coal Mine. The AA coverage will protect you from air-to-air attacks. Until we’ve established air superiority, you’ll have a couple objectives: 1) watch over the air base to ensure they don’t send in a special forces squad via vehicle to destroy our runway, 2) watch over Farm Outpost to protect bunker and extra tank, and 3) as targets are spotted (and lazed) near Coal Mine, you’ll come over the ridge only long enough to deploy ordinance, then retreat behind cover again. Sq 3: INTERDICT Your primary mission is to secure quadrants E-4 and E-5, ensure the enemy doesn’t cross the river NE of Village, and to provide Mobile AA coverage for the center of the map. A Tank and HAT are assigned to you. You’ll also have a support truck so you’ll have a supply crate. If your Mobile AA is destroyed, one MANPAD is reserved for your squad at all times. Resupply your vehicles off the firebase (north of Mine) or bunker at Farm Outpost. Your secondary mission is to slow the enemy’s capture of Village by engaging them from a distance and providing laser-designation for our air squads. Once we are ready to attack Village, you’ll team up with Sq 4. Sq 4: VILLAGE This squad is named VILLAGE because they will be the primary squad to attack and defend Village when the opportunity presents itself. Since Village won't be an objective at the beginning of the game, they will be the squad that actually captures the "Coal Mine" flag while Sq 5 sets up a firebase and helps with AA. Your squad will have a Warrior IFV assigned to it full-time. After the Coal Mine flag is captured, you’ll be re-positioned by the CO based on enemy positions. Once you’re assigned to attack Village, you’ll be supported by Sq 3, who has a Challenger II tank and Mobile AA. Sq 8 will get you a support truck once Village is captured so you can build a bunker in the Village AND a firebase NW in the hills. Sq 5: MINE This will be the primary defense squad for Coal Mine. Please bring down a support truck from the Air Base and build a firebase in the hills north of Coal Mine (see photos below for location). Your other objectives are to provide AA coverage (via MANPAD and/or firebase’s AA gun) and provide extra engineer support (to repair Sq 6’s tanks, AA, and to ensure the firebase stays built). You’ll also use your officer kit to laze enemy vehicles and other targets for bombing. Sq 6: ARMOR This squad will have two Challenger II tanks and one Mobile AA. Your primary function will be to defend the hill south of Coal Mine, while taking out enemy armor and using the AA to protect your tanks from air attacks. You are also tasked to watch the south flank, to ensure that the enemy doesn’t position themselves southeast of Coal Mine and try to get behind us. Resupply your vehicles off the firebase north of Mine. Your Mobile AA vehicle may also be able to shoot down jets that are trying to line up for a landing at the Chinese Air Base. Take advantage of their lower-than-normal altitude and slow airspeed. Sq 7: SPEC OPS This small, specialized squad will use a land rover to quickly position themselves near Chinese FOB. Their initial role will be to spot enemy vehicles that are moving to Mine. Once air superiority is established and our jet/Apache are available for bomb runs, they will begin their secondary objective of lazing targets. This will prevent enemy tanks from retreating behind a hill (and out of sight of our assets at Mine). I think they'll succeed best if they are undetected, but the SL may choose to snipe enemy troops on foot west of Mine. They will also collapse the enemy bunker at FOB, place mines on the road, etc. If an attack on Chinese FOB is declared, this squad’s primary mission will be to ensure the enemy bunker is not spawnable and to snipe infantry off of the TOW emplacements. Sq 8: CO Support This squad will support the entire team, as directed by the CO. He will transport troops, drop off supply crates, bring trucks to positions that need bunker and firebase construction, etc. He will spawn at Farm Outpost with the CO. After a command post is placed, the first support truck that spawns will be reserved for his use. Vehicle Assignments To avoid confusion when the map starts, please make sure your squad members spawn at the appropriate place and only take vehicles that are assigned to your squad. The vehicle assignments are shown below: ![]() This is the vehicle assignment list for the vehicles that spawn at British Air Base. Note that many of these vehicles don't spawn until the one minute mark, but that's fine. It'll give us a little extra time to get our jets airborne to establish air superiority. ![]() This is the vehicle assignment list for the vehicles that spawn at Farm Outpost. We won't use the tanks that spawn here until the first round is destroyed. That way the "clock" is ticking for the air base tanks to respawn while we use these. Air Superiority One of our initial objectives will be to establish air superiority. Although we only have one jet pilot, he will focus on air-to-air at the beginning of the map. Squads 3 and 6 will bring Mobile AA vehicles to the north and south sides of Coal Mine, and Squad 5 will build an AA gun and assign a person to use the shoulder launched AA kit (MANPAD). This should make it very difficult for their jets and gunship to operate anywhere on the east side of the map. ![]() This map displays our AA coverage. It also depicts the area that the Apache can operate safely, making surgical strikes only when a target is located. Firebase Locations Squads 4, 5, and 8, please review the photos below. They show the best locations for firebases. You can use your discretion on exact positioning, but we have done a lot of map research and feel these locations will best protect the firebase from ground attack since the views are blocked by surrounding terrain. ![]() Route to firebase north of Coal Mine ![]() Enlarged view of firebase location north of Coal Mine ![]() Firebase location in hills NW of Village. This will compliment the bunker that will also be built inside the Village. Neither will be built until we capture the Village flag. Rally Point Placement While reviewing past Qinling BattleRecorder files, I watched Liquid.Watch place his rally points inside the larger bushes on the map and was amazed at how well it was hidden. As you can see in the photo below, you can’t see the rally point even when practically right next to it. I highly recommend that squad leaders look for these large bushes when placing RPs. And on that note, I will remind SLs to place RPs if I don’t see one on the map. It’s not only a subtle reminder, but it may also be because the enemy stabbed it and you didn’t know yet. ![]() Communication I think communication and coordination is going to be the make-or-break factor on this map. As CO, I'll obviously try my best to coordinate air strikes, squad assignments, and relay pertinent information to those that are affected by it. However, I think it would be worthwhile to have those listed below in their own TeamSpeak channel (without the rest of the team). SLs can still communicate with their squad members via VOIP, so by not having them in the channel, it will keep the chatter down to essential information only. Ideally, laser designators, AA troops, and the pilots can coordinate directly for bombing runs, AA intercepts, etc. thegreatnardini (EF-2000) stickyjeans69 (Apache) Carpface (Apache) eGoatBoy (SL) jOHNNYdOUBE (AA) Delta*RandyShugart* (SL) Nero (AA) d1sp0sabl3H3r0 (SL) Portable.Cougar (SL) † Disciple † (AA) Dirtboy (SL) Dick Blonov (Spec Ops) Please let me know if you have any questions about the STRAT Plan. Also, squad leaders need to make sure they are on TeamSpeak an hour before the scrim. We’ll need that time to make sure we’re all ready and to discuss any last minute changes to the roster, etc. Thanks!

Re: QinLing Scrim Results
Coal Mine Squad:
Before I begin, this was the first scrim of this type that I had the chance to participate with, and being given the chance to be a SL in this type of event was a bit overwhelming but also a very good chance to prove the skills that i have learned from a wide array of SLs and Commanders (notably portable cougar, soccer, nardini, ferris, dirtboy, and kta ratlover). I could not have asked for a better group of guys to be squadded up with, it was unfortunate due to work/computer issues that Iceman and Cappy were not able to make it, but I was glad to add sabre tooth and onit as additions to squad 5. Our task which was set forth early on was to build the FB in a hidden spot near the coal mine and to defend it while scouting/lazing/disrupting tank and air assets as well as defending and repairing tanks in the area. Nero was a godsend. His use of the Shoulder AA gun, helped disrupt any real type of advances that the PRC tried with their J-10, as soon as he came flew even under the radar Nero was able to light him up and he immediately bugged out and was shot down by nardini or taken out by the AA gun's in the area. Nero also was a solid help when I had computer problems midway through the match which made me crash to desktop (i still have no clue why this happened) and hindered me from reconnecting for almost 20mins, even when i was able to connect i experienced mic problems and had to reconnect twice before joining back up with the squad. Nero you deserve SL recognition, thank you, and also thank you for relinquishing your role as the SL when i returned you could not have been more courteous and you kept me up to date with what i had missed. Thank you! Nero proved in my absence to be a skilled SL and made it possible to hold the coal mine and support the team. We were able to hold the mine flag even though I got a bit distracted lazing targets and taking out some enemy soldiers who were putting pot shots on soccer at farm outpost. There was a brief period where the chinese took control over the mine (i believe it was less than 8mins total). And it was at this moment where i thought I had failed. However I realized immediately that my squad mates were there to help and defend as they were told, and upon getting killed when entering the mine after taking out 1 enemy soldier, Vicious and skylark entered and were able to neutralize the threat and cover each other and we took the mine back without a hitch. Onit was added at the last minute after not being in a 1 man squad as per the commanders request and he was great at repariing our tanks with the help of skylark, who i must add I had going back and forth from the coal mine and to our tanks, skylark i thank you for your patience and i understand your questions but you followed my orders without hesitation even though i know you wanted to get into the action more. I commend you for staying as an engineer and helping the armor when needed. Sabre, I also commend you for being the resident medic, even though we didn't take that many casualties you stayed as a medic, and didn't hesitate to help out at all. I really admired this. You helped out a great deal, I mean that with all seriousness I was glad to have you as a late addition to the squad. Vicious, thank you for having the HAT kit and using it, you used it with skill and patience and helped to confuse the heck out of the enemy armor and while the tanks engaged you our tanks/air support were able to take them out without hesitation. Everything ran very smoothly. This was by far the best teamwork i have ever seen, we all knew our parts, and we all knew every other squads parts and that helped fuel our victory. Soccer you did a magnificent job as a commander. You prepared us for a win and we won because of you. I really commend you on taking the helm, your strategy was clear and concise and helped me know exactly where the FB should go, (ferris thank you for telling me what tree/shadow to place the AA gun, it was so well hidden I didn't see it at first). Thank you also soccer for keeping us Squad leaders up to date with what was going on, and for setting CAS marks and telling us when we should talk on TS with nardini to coordinate laser bombing runs. Nardini amazing job in the air (I guess you following me the night before as i ran away from you in the j-10 was the catalyst huh? JK) Never before had I had the chance to laser a target that was destroyed. And during the scrim I was able to do it more than once, it was very satisfying seeing the bombs drop on the target with accuracy, patience and precision and watching the enemy tanks blow up in front of my eyes, job well done!!! Ferris and Turkish excellent job with the choppers!! We really plowed through them. It was a great battle that kept us on our toes, and it was a lot of fun. I am looking forward to the next scrim. I hope to be apart of it again and am glad to also know that if there is another one that cougar will be in the tank squad, talk about accuracy and flawless execution, man cougar you blkops guys know how to work those tanks. I had a great time and I can only imagine how well it will go next time we take on another clan/group in the PR community. Great job to all SL's!!! Great job to everyone who participated and to my squad thanks again I had a great time it was a perfect way to spend a saturday afternoon. I cannot wait to see the video!! I DL the BR, how do you fast forward while you are viewing it?

Re: QinLing Scrim Results
Sectors of fire for an entire team, thats excellent. This should go as a sticky in tactics or something.
I fully agree with keeping the heli back and only sending it forward occasionally in an airstrike capability. Excellent use of the jet and laser bombs by my squad leader and others, that kind of thing really is devastating. Its like the old tv missiles but with more team work |

Re: QinLing Scrim Results
At that same spot about 5-10 mins into the round we ambushed 2 tanks and vodnik (except we were on the down slope). Then those 2 tanks came in and got the drop on us and we had to back up and wait for them to come over, luckily they only saw Cougar and me. So when the 2 enemy tanks came rollin over the hill cougar and I played meat shield so Donhros and Crawlingeye could lay the smackdown. There was never any real worry about getting destroyed though, cause we brought our trusty tank butler (Wickens) with us. He had a towel over his left forearm and a wrench in his right hand (he could b heard over ingame yelling "have wrench, will travel!"). And Disciple........ was busy scaring birds away with his AA. Did a fantastic job though, we never once had to take the tank to the carwash to clean the bird Cr@p off.

Just wanted to add my own thoughts on what was a fantastic team performance. Where do you start, Nardini perhaps? Wow, Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines, the Dambusters and Topgun theme tunes were on a loop in my head as Nardini brought repeated death and destruction from above. Never really noticed the importance of Jets in PR before but the other team must have regretted getting out of bed and into their cockpits that day, top stuff mate, very impressive and reasuring to know we had top cover whenever we needed it.
Dirt and his boys constantly harassing behind enemy lines providing intel and lasering targets. Our infantry squads sticking at it and getting the job done in some really tough situations. Our helo pilots, despite allegedly being relatively inexperienced, doing a great job. The list goes on. Most impressive for me was the team work and coordination so a massive pat on the back to Soccer, as ever a steady hand with great tactics. Also the level of professionalism and maturity shown throughout was commendable, especially when some questionable things were done by our opponents, no doubt they were driven to it through frustration. Everyone stayed cool and stuck to our gameplan, no calling anyone out or whining just ice cold professionalism. I wasn't sure that I was going to enjoy playing Tank butler for such a big map being an infantry fanatic but it was the first time I've really enjoyed the map. Massive thanks to my squad mates it was great fun playing with you, we had a real laugh whilst still being an integral part of the team. A couple of times I could barely speak I was laughing so hard. Portable Cougar Nerds Donhros A.Wickens Disciple Crawlingeye Portable Cougar was a blinding SL, thanks mate I really enjoyed the experience and hope to play in your squad again in the future, even if I have to be a tank butler. Anyway, well done everyone, I was extremely proud to be part of TG and this scrim. Bring on the next lot! PS I was impressed by some of our opponents, in particular the Brazillians and the Actual British Army guys who kept fighting to the end, it was no walkover even when some of their teammates quit on them. Thank you to the organisers for all the hard work you put in and nice video Dirt!

Re: QinLing Scrim Results
Yep gamers who tough it out even when its obvious the odds are against them and they cannot win, are rarer then they should be.
I'd be glad to play against or with them again |
