PR.71 - Mobile Aerial Engy/Support - Kashan Desert (2/17:1000hrs CST)

I thought I would tell this little story because I would like to see it happen again. Maybe one of you will give this a try and see if it works as well for you as it did for me.

Kashan Desert - US

I joined after a bit of the game had already gone by. US had taken their North Village and North Bunker and were in the process of taking South Bunker. The people I wanted to squad up with were all full so I decided to do my backup plan which I normally do. Mobile Repair. If anyone needs repairs I drive my vehicle out to wherever they are and repair them with my trusty wrench. Sometimes I have someone join my squad to also help wrench and the Armor crews appreciate the service.

So I spawn in and get a command truck. I pick up Squad 4 at the main base before heading out and take them to North Bunker. There I help the commander build a Bunker outside the building complex. After several MEC attacks from a Rally Point I get killed and spawn back at the main. That's when a player with a French clan tag joins my squad. I mention that I'm an engy squad and that I am looking for transport out into the field. He immediately goes pilot and says he will take me wherever I want. Why not.

Start up the Blackhawk and via my move marker head out to a Tank in desperate need of repair. KingKong was a crewman in that tank I recognized. We land, I fix the tank and then get back on board. We fly out to another tank across the map that needs repair. Landing behind the mountain hovering I jump out and run up the mountain to fix salvation's tank. I top off some other random tank down the mountain ridge with a short helo hop over to them.

We suddenly lost South Bunker and quickly Squad 4 was being assaulted at North Bunker by a squad of MEC with Squad 6 assaulting South Bunker and were too far out to help. A quick look at my map and I place the attack marker just south of North Bunker to do a fly by and immediately saw hostiles. Placing the attack marker on the suspected Rally area I tell the pilot to circle the target and so the Blackhawk circles it as I rain down lead from above taking out four or five of them and suppressing them heavily. This relieved the pressure from Squad 4 and allowed Squad 6, who just finished taking South Bunker to close into position. I ran out of bullets on the Blackhawk (on both guns on both sides) and we went back for supplies at main base.

We then decide that the BH was too slow and a large target so we opted for a Little Bird that had just spawned back at main base. With the French guy flying and myself as Engy still we returned to the previous attack marker and did fly by attack passes on the storage containers the enemy squad was coming from. Squad 6 was engaging at that time and we broke off.

By then KingKong's tank needed some more repairs and so did Salvation's tank. Taking the little bird to the first tank via move marker I began to repair. I ordered the pilot to do a quick recon of the area so that nothing snuck up on us. He actually took out an enemy helicopter inbound at the time as I finished repairing the Tank. onemanwreckingcrew08 was in bound to his Squad's damaged tank via Humvee when I arrived at salvation's tank. Both of us fixed that tank up and I go back in the heli and flew off.

We headed back out briefly and did a holding pattern waiting for repair or aerial support requests. Ended up getting shot down and respawned with a Blackhawk in waiting. We did get a Transport request and ended up transporting a squad from a bunker at US North Village to the MEC South Village.

After a trip back to base I unfortunately had to leave the game again. However I have to say that this experience was perhaps one of the most fulfilling. I never seen it done before and so I thought I would share the experience with you and see if anyone else started to do it. Warning though it's not for the faint of heart and not for the impatient and you have to have a pretty decent pilot to avoid hot areas and hover close enough to the ground to drop you off on hillsides and then immediately dust off.

Was very cool experience.

cool, I have never seen someone utilize the firepower of a blackhawk even though it is so powerful. Good job Kilroy and good job french guy for the awesome flying.

That seems like very effective use of the chopper. For one, the safest places try to land are often behind tanks. At the vey least you know there isn't a tank right there.

Good work!

I was in squad 6 on that map-- You did a great job. When he was circiling with the black hawk, my squad was like: HOW IS HE ALIVE?!!?

I'm gonna have to give that role a spin. Sounds like it would be quite fun

If the tactic is used correctly, as demod here, it would be an extremely usefull thing to have.... A few guys and myself tried to do something like this in .5 PR mod, but it didnt work as well, but looks good now....

Had this tactic used in the game about 10 min ago. Have to say very useful, got tracked while taking down an enemy tank, told commander that we needed immediate repairs and the helo with engy in tow was on us in less then 30 sec. Would love to see this tactic used more often to give a whole new dynamic to engy support squads. GJ to Kilroy for pointing this one out, and kudos to anyone who uses it. . Your the heros of armor in need.
