Snake Eyes 2/25 or Got Arty?-the Achilles' heel

Yet another round on Snake Eyes Monday night. I was actually looking forward to this map with all of it's challenges because we all know it takes a real team effort to win from the US side.

I formed a Smoke+Run squad to hit the beach. I was very fortunate to get a solid crew that included CharlieEight, MercenarieVVV, Project, Blood and Squinty. I knew these guys would be all over it and they were.

We hit the South beach with all medics and one support. Smoke, run, resupply, revive, smoke, run...well, you get the picture. We faced some resistance there with light infantry but we were able to press toward Outpost and secure it just before the UKR forward armor rolled in. Phew. We then changed our kit assignments based on the challenges ahead.

As reinforcements came we pressed up the southern boundary as many have before and secured Hotel. We dug in with CO orders to defend, but the UKR decided they did not like our little party and started POUNDING us with the arty. Over and over and over.... All my Advil was gone, my head started pounding, and I became sick watching the arty crawl around every inch of the Hotel courtyard. Commander, please let us press on! Go squad go!

We were ordered to attack Night Club. We did. We secured it only to see hotel falling and we rushed back to defend. Fortunately we were able to get it back, but it was clear that the fighting was going to intensify between those points. Achhh, the snipers. Where did my Advil go?

We pressed back up to Night Club and met heavy resistance. Two squad members thought they may get the point, but met heavy resistance. CO ordered us to bypass the point and go for Weapons Bunkers. Again, we met heavy resistance, but this is where a solid squad really shines. I kept a spawn point just outside and after a few initial assaults, the flag started turning. I salute every member of the squad for demonstrating excellent teamwork and communication. With Bunkers secured, the map looked like this and we were winning:

This was our chance to capitalize on pushing the UKR to the beach and right into the sights of the arty. The CO wanted it, requested it, but it didn't come as it had before. Slowly, the UKR armor that was unchecked, started pushing back to turn flags. The US missed many arty kills on the beach and gave the UKR a second chance to fight back. They did.

As time was running out, we left Bunkers to try and turn the bleed at Night Club and Hotel. Too little too late. Time ran out and the UKR won the round 81-39 as time expired. The US had all of the pieces in place to secure a victory on this map through the first 75% of the round. The late round missing piece of the arty became our achilles' heel. Based on what I saw on this round with a solid CO, squad coordination and regular arty/tomahawk support, it shows if you keep it going, you should win as the US.

Good job by the UKR for saving the round. I tip my hat to all the guys in my squad as they truly demonstrated what TG play is all about.

Re: Snake Eyes 2/25 or Got Arty?-the Achilles' heel

I wish I had taken a screen capture showing who lead which squad (I'll do better next time). But I will say that there was some outstanding defense by squad 3 at Nightclub, and squad 2 at Outpost. Really good work by those guys. Squad 5 moved the armor up from Bunkers and when we lost it, kept pressure on it as well as helping out at other flags. I thought the game might be over when Bunkers fell, but squad 2 taking away the US armor helped a bunch. Squad 1 and 4 did a good job working mostly Motel and Lobby.

This was the best game I've commanded, responsive squads, good teamwork, and UKR played a solid game, and even if I do say so myself, we did really well to hold out against the US invaders. Thanks to all the squad leaders.

I'd love to hear some views from the UKR ground forces.
