It was by a miracle we even survived our tour at Qwai River. We were fortunate to have suffered only one casualty.This time it was suicide. A job only the 6th Devils Brigade could pull off - There were no complaints. We all knew what was at stake.

Our objective was clear, as Warehouse said himself: We only had 20 minutes; Our squad would have to hold off the entire Militia Army and whatever the mysterious Commander Dragonfly could throw at Helicopter Air Base. M16 gave us the run down shortly before our boots hit the ground on the south side of the river. The Rebels had brought a few surprises into Turkey this time: Two rusty T-62 tanks and 1 Spandrel. This of course accompanied their small fleet of strangely Nissan design technicals. Luckily for us the T-62's were still a few miles down the highway. Aerial Surveillance would hopefully notify us as soon as the tanks became a threat.

No Backup, No supplies - Nothing but one another. Warehouse only had time to upload a quick battle plan over the Garmin GPS. The man was crazy - It isn't called 'Fools Road' for nothing. 50 pound guns and RPG's could be lurking around every corner. Virtually every convoy in the past 3 months that entered the area either was obliterated completely or left retreating; limping back for repairs.



Luckily for our squad we were left with 2 Land Rovers - God bless the Queen. We hit the road pedal to the metal. Randy had just gotten done digging some sand bags in preparation for the battle on the north side of the bridge at the village. The new guys always got the worst jobs. Nardini stopped to pick him up while I sped down the highway towards our rally point. Nardini's Rover veered off to the left and made a B-Line for the Helicopter Air Base's front entrance.

It was quiet. After a quick search of the abandoned control tower we set in for the inevitable attack. It came swiftly - A transport truck with some Rebels piled in the back. A few unloaded meeting a terrible lead filled ending. The truck hit Nardini's mine just as we thought it would burst through the front entrance. After a quick assessment, we dug in as best we could - until any reinforcements would arrive.



Magazine after Magazine, explosion after every explosion; The enemy came in force. The .50's were a God send. A stubborn BRDM broke through the front entrance. It was close - Randy barely escaped the explosion as it blew his Rover to shreds. But Warehouse fired away. The damn russians must have built the BDRM out of tinfoil. I wouldn't have wanted to be the crew inside that APC.

Ammo started to become an issue. Most of us had brought as many C4 and mines as we could carry. We had to procure some heavier firepower. We had some extra weapons at the rally point but it was a good 200m run. During another senseless wave of infantry by the Militia, one brought a PKM. He also standard 5.56 NATO and 7.62 rounds in his heavy pack. The sound was deafening - I'm not sure anyone heard me when I said I was going for the PKM. I heard Warehouse for sure say "Silence that PKM." There was no time. He was 20m away firing at everything that moved. His friendlies were dead. His heroic last stand had to end here; He was pinned down. Not enough room in those quarters for a full length L85 - No sidearm...

Modern armies only equip soliders with knives for utility purposes and survival. Mine found the Rebel's chest. After sheathing my knife I took the PKM and any ammo I could find on him. We quickly rearmed and went back to our positions.

And in the distance, I swore I heard what sounded like a T-62 tank...
