Jabal Al-Burj (3/7/08) 7-9am
I have give a big shout out to my USMC team on that map this morning. From an unbelievably bad mid-game and very poor commander placements I didn't know if we could pull it together in time to win. Having been beaten back from East Beach and even losing that flag once.
But damn if you didn't prove to me you could do it after I took the commander spot. Some of the best defense of East Beach I have ever seen under extremely heavy fire. And we pulled it out and won the game by 2 points. 2 Fracking points! Great job guys. Games like that that recharge my commander batteries. Cheers. Side note: I got 21 defend points that round. They just wouldn't stop coming. Very intense. And to those that never followed orders of either the Commander or your SL, next time it's reporting time. Vanilla behavior should stay in Vanilla. This is Project Reality. Catch a clue, read the rules, follow orders, be team players or go home.

Re: Jabal Al-Burj (3/7/08) 7-9am CST
Oh since this was moved to AAR section I should expand on the story to make it more official. It’s a long read but I tend to be rather verbose about this kind of stuff.
Beginning of the game. My squad, Squad 2, (The Warpig crew for those that know us) took 2 APCs (4 crewmen and 2 engy) into the fray. We floated our slow asses to East Beach helping in the capture of it. I stuck around a little longer seeing if anyone wanted a ride up to Bridge or Dam, yet routine to norm none of the squads there seemed to understand the tactic of quick shared mobility. With the exception of Squad 4 who was actually building a Bunker. The commander, whom I felt was attempting but using rather poor judgment placed the commander post at West beach with a Blackhawk team and built a Bunker there as well. Our APC squad headed for Bridge to slow down the forward advance of the MEC while our team took Dam. So we were sitting pretty for a bit. One APC down and one heavily damaged and retreating we attempted to hold Bridge but failed. Squad 3 had to reform and defend West from a large MEC counter attack while we attempted to take Bridge which eventually became mute as Dam fell. It's the usual scenario of no defense on a key CP. After a bit, Squad 3 was taken out at West and the command post destroyed as well as the bunker. All we had left was East Beach. At the time we didn't know that at West the MEC built a Bunker and a Firebase higher up in the hills just to the east of West beach. So with an APC, two AA and a host of Vodniks as well as infantry with AT there was no way anyone was going to get into West. East beach was our last foothold on land, which is fine if you keep it as there is no ticket bleed as long as USMC holds East beach. APC Squad 2, led by onemanwreckingcrew08 and is the squad I was in, went into defense mode staying in the small rolling burm hills of East Beach defending against many attacks from both the mountains to the east of the CP (common MEC tactic) as well as assaults from the north. Some of the team spawned at East while a majority of the team was spread out across the map doing whatever they do attempting to go back to Bridge and attack West Beach. All those assaults failed. The MEC were simply too entrenched. Soon a suicide squad some how got past the APC we had left, since one APC can't cover all locations, and got into East taking out our bunker. Luckily onemanwreckingcrew08 had smartly built a backup firebase down the coast. I had been attempting a one man Rambo charge across the north field against a MEC squad whose rally was somewhere north. A string of good luck followed and I some how got to the Northern ridge taking out a handful of the squad in the processes looking for their rally. The commander, after bitching to oneman about building the firebase (which I don't understand since he approved the build obviously) comes barreling up to the north ridge right next to the water and beneath the Bridge CP and I guess was attempting to build a firebase right there under the bridge. That's when the tide turns... the commander disconnected. Left with no commander, a command truck next to me and an officer kit at my feet I do what I am conditioned to do in these situations. I take the commander position and attempt to turn the tide. The next 20 minutes or so is perhaps some of the most hairy fire fight combat operations I have been in. Driving back the command truck to East through rifle fire on the hills behind me I gain cover inside East Beach and place a command post and Bunker in quick succession as our last one was demoed. I immediately order all soldiers in the field to put shovels on it at which point I promptly die to another incoming vodnik squad. Who then take out the very bunker I just placed. Spawning at the firebase I discover that it is under attack from the ridge to it's east. An entire squad of MEC are up there raining fire down on top of the small band of USMC there at the firebase. A medic and a marksman at that firebase conduct heroic feats of fire upon the enemy squad and reviving fallen soldiers as well as throwing extra medic packs around too keep the heals coming. Another was shoveling the firebase to keep it up. If I could recommend the Medal of Valor to these gents I would. I join in and start shooting at the squad above us just as East Beach falls. The situation looks very grim. Myself and only a couple of soldiers are able to run in our desperate attempt at East Beach hoping to take out the enemy MEC squad that has neutralized the CP. On the run this partial squad and myself, later reinforced with the rest of their full squad and using the firebase as a spawn point, are taking out MEC soldiers inside left and right slowly trimmed them down to nothing. Just as we think we have the place secure the firebase goes down. Well, ****! All I have is maybe 9 soldiers in the area and no spawn points except for a single squad's rally anywhere near East Beach. We pray that no MEC squad attacked at that very moment and our prayers were answered as the East Beach CP is captured. Meanwhile the two soldiers left at the destroyed firebase are shoveling it up as quickly as they can while under fire. They bring it up some how, give those soldiers a medal! A quick look at the commander map and I see just about the entire team has already spawned on the carrier. Two squads are taking Black Hawks to West beach and being destroyed upon entry of their fly zone. Squad 3, under heavy fire, has some how gotten a foot hold via Zodiac insertion. I order the entire team to spawn at East Beach. I knew the key to winning this game was to hold East Beach and to prevent any unnecessary loss of tickets. This was our last and only chance. I place a Bunker at East Beach and the squad with me is quickly attempting to build it up. I hear crickets from the other squads and I start to become rather irritated with the lack of following orders. So in a much louder tone I exasperate to the team on VOIP and typing that, "They are to spawn at East Beach even if they have to suicide from the carrier and spawn at East Beach; IMMEDIATELY!." Well after a bit and a couple more failed attempts at West Beach a squad and then another listened and spawned at East Beach. At some point our firebase was taken out again and the base of it had despawned, however new APC support had arrived and dispatched the MEC on top of the hill. A few more squads violently failed to take West Beach after which I was tired of the company wasting life tickets on this obviously suicidal charge. I labeled West Beach a no attack no fly zone and ordered the team to not accept any offers for heli transport to West Beach or any where else. Black Hawks from this time forward were relegated to recon to the immediate mountain areas or supply box duty. I place a backup firebase against the mountains to the east of the CP putting an AA gun in an elevated position which covered the rolling hills just north of the CP very nicely. What transpired next was the most extensive, mobilized and organized defense of East Beach I have ever seen in the game to date. I order the general defense of East Beach hills and over VOIP tell squads to take forward defensive positions just to the north of East Beach with a single squad covering East Beach itself from covert operational attacks from the ocean side and as second wave defense. Squad 6 and 7 were on the hills just southeast of Bridge. Part of Squad 4 was on the ridge just East of Bridge and Squad 3 was in the mountains overlooking the valley road leading into the city area on the right side. Squad 2 was offering APC support and Squad 1 and 5 were doing some sort of Black Hawk action. The rest of Squad 1 and 4 not doing their own thing was defending East Beach CP. I ordered them to place as many mines on the road coming from Bridge and from the city as possible. To spawn Engineer, Supplies, AT and Medic. Defensive squad kit organization. The tickets read that we were 10 points behind the MEC and into double digits around 95 or so points. “Draw a line in the sand boys. Let them bash their heads into the wall.”, was my order to all squads. All 30 or so players were in a defensive arc covering all the north of East Beach. The tickets go lower. Rogue players not listening to any of their SLs or the commander are taking Humvees into the city and down to dam only to be immediately destroyed. If I could court martial them and throw them into the brig I would have. Maybe a week ban might give these insubordinate players a clue as to how PR is played. The MEC lead increases to 15 points as we near the 40 tickets left mark. The MEC team is typing in server chat asking and egging on the USMC team to attack them and to come out from hiding as they know that West Beach is a death trap for us. If they only knew that our entire team had the Eastern valley locked down. “Come get some!”, I exclaim with our lines set. After a few more minutes they attacked. At first it was a trickle and then a torrent. The defense was valiant and I knew that my squads had their orders. It was up to them now. Choppers are flying in and dropping supply boxes and going back to the carrier to reload. All squads have rallies and are keeping their general positions; Except for Squad 4 (Not the SL’s fault honestly because he tried.) who couldn’t get his squad together long enough to place a rally. As my men spread out too far I remind them to pull back and hold the line and to my surprise they listened. The wall holds strong only letting in a single fully laden Vodnik. Getting the drop on them as they unloaded from the vehicle, I was able to take out four with grenades and rifle fire with the help of a few of my men at the CP with me. The back up defense team was a smart move. I waited relaying spots and reminding to hold the line when a squad ventured too far from their areas. USMC 15 vs 30 MEC showed the ticket score. I had hope but I typed in “GG” and commended my team for their efforts, apologizing that I couldn’t bring them to victory. From experience at this point normally you don’t win. I tell all squad leaders that they are Free Fire and on their own accord. I was typing in general chat stuff about various things as the points decreased. I check them as the air raid sirens wail signifying 10 points left for a team. The score USMC 10 vs 15 MEC. Holy ****! Their lead was only 5 points! The defensive barrier is holding! “Keep going men! They only have a 5 point lead!”, I exclaim in team chat and VOIP. 5 vs 7 … hold my breath.. 3 vs 4 … Can we pull it off? … 2 vs 2 … 2 vs 1 … To borrow the famous quote when the US Olympic Hockey team beat the undefeated USSR Olympic Hockey team during the height of the Cold War, “Do you believe in miracles!?”. Round ends… hold my breath and then.. USMC 2 – 0 MEC. USMC Wins. I actually let out a cheer and beamed as I saw that we won. I can’t believe it… my team pulled it off! One of the most amazing games I’ve had the pleasure of playing as Commander. I don’t know if that sort of teamwork will happen again but I can only hope it does. To everyone on my team that round that worked with me and followed orders, I humbly say, “Thank you.”. Cheers.

Re: Jabal Al-Burj (3/7/08) 7-9am
good job! and people complain that USMC have a huge disadvantage on that map...
with blackhawks and more tickets, the only way for USMC to lose is through ****ty teamwork and not following orders |
