POE Lutsk 16 3/23/2008

I must admit I have been especially enjoying these smaller scale battles lately, makes it feel more 'personal' and as though you have more control over the battlefield instead of just being a small group of guys in a 64 player slaughterhouse.
Lutsk has never really been a remarkable map and I've never really had any notable battle experiences on it. Last night was pretty epic though if I'm honest.

Server population of about 12 players (6 per team on average)
Ukrainian team consists of myself as squad lead along with our Swedish friend [db]Magrioteli, [ME]bandana, [StK]CORNHOLIO, Magonushi and furiousmullet.

Starting at the Castle flag out initial plan was to roll straight down to Church and cap it before they could get there before us, this worked and while a bit messy we held onto it for a good 6-7 minutes. Then it all went horribly wrong.

We had 28th|BAM on our team who had agreed to stay on defence at castle as Spec Ops, he had wired up the flag and castle entrance with several pounds worth of happy bombs in case they came around us, unfortunately he had gotten disconnected without me noticing and they took it with no resistance. At the exact same time we had also gotten overrun at Church and within seconds my entire squad was dead and all control points were in German hands. I am still alive in the UKR MTLB APC but with no flags my squaddies cannot reinforce me so I switch to drivers seat and start my way back up the mountain in a desperate attempt to see if I can reclaim out Castle flag, I make it up there but get turned into human emmental as soon as I poke my head through the front door. So there I was, staring at the sky and a 20 second counter thinking to myself "That's it, we're brown bread."

The counter reaches zero and I switch to free camera so see where our last survivor is located, amazingly he had made it across the wheat fields without being detected and was on Farm flag inside the house, second floor. furiousmullet (I'm sorry but I can't remember 100%, please correct me if I am mistaken) had already neutralised the flag and it was almost raised to our side. I'm literally praying for him to get it hoisted 100% so we can all bail in and correct our earlier mistake.

80% raised..... 90% raised..... "Area secure"!!
"Spawn in now!" I'm shouting. I can only assume that most of their team had made their way to the castle since I was the last thing they saw heading up that way and were unable to get back to Farm in time to stop mullet from capping it.
We have a DingoII at the flag and put it to use getting to the church and stop the bleed (which by now had gotten a little out of hand). Unfortunately we lost the Dingo while we were busy with the Church flag and it ended up getting hijacked.
Back we spawn at Farm with no transport and at least 3 enemy snipers picking us to bits.
we respond with 2 snipers of our own and some crack shots enabled us to break free and progress across the field relatively unmolested. This time we take Church properly and cleanly, after a little mopping up we press on to castle before they realise what's going on.

I then ask 1 person to stay at Farm and the 1 person at Church to stay put whilst the rest of us press on. I'm driving the Mercedes Wolf open top with 3 passengers, we approach castle and I pull off towards the left side. "1 in the front door, 1 up the ladder on the back left side. CORNHOLIO climbs up before me in case of any explosive surprises but we all manage to make inside with no real trouble. The castle defenders were dealt with swiftly and although we lost 1 to c4 I revived him within seconds. At that moment I realised we had just done to them what they did to us 10 minutes earlier, capped out! 2 of the enemy team disconnect realise they have been beaten at their own tactic. "Every one stay put and keep looking, there's still 2 left!" 1 goes down to a sniper bullet just after I said that and the last German is at Farm but he takes out our defender.

I blast out the Castle entrance and grab the Mercedes Wolf jeep that we used earlier to get up there and mash the horn for the rest of my guys to get in. We then tore down the hill at full speed desperate to avoid trees and buildings and just hoping that we get to that damn Farm before they can raise it, we get to the wheat field "It's almost up!" someone says. "Nade it, spam it I don't care!" I'm saying "Just get in the cap zone and stop him from getting it!"

Magonushi swiftly crushes the last hopes of the Germans by killing their last team member and voip erupts in a hail of gg's and celebrations as we finally realised that we pulled off what we all thought was never going to happen.

Big thanks to all squaddies! [db]Magrioteli, [ME]bandana, [StK]CORNHOLIO, Magonushi and furiousmullet. Wouldn't have happened without any of you really.

Some shots: 1st is just after we killed the last German at farm and people are firing into the air in celebration, 2nd is closing scores and 3rd is more scores and best squad/classes.
Thanks all!

I've never ever been a fan of Lutsk 16 player. (I do like small map battles though).
Honestly I've always thought that this map was a piece of **** to play. That was till yesterday's game.
It became that intense - as it was - thanks to DrunkenPirate (yarr) who showed us the way to play that specific 16-map (with three flags).
All by a sudden my thoughts went from "OMFG, not that map" to "Gee, this was great fun".
Keeping them flags is crucial. It is also crucial to keep that church tower clean from enemy snipers. (Thought that I spotted at least two up there). However the major thing is to have a great game! And we had.

One can summarize this in: It ain't over till it's over.

Thanks fellows - it was exciting!

Bloody hell you can tell I've had a beer or 2, just seen a load of spelling and grammatical errors.

4/10, see me after school!

I remember seeing the chat on CC as that game ended- looked like a lot of fun. Great AAR, Pirate.

A lot of the early rounds every day get intense. Those 6v6 or so are some of my favorite games to play.
