4/10/2007 Tales from Jabal (as told by MEC SL of squad 6)
I had the chance to lead a very diligent squad on Jabal. I would like to thank nardini, drifterdave, mcd15, TGbigbadjesus, Coronadoseal for their hardwork and defensive measures.
I joined the map, talked to charity case on TS who was also on the MEC side and asked which beach he was headed for, he answered west beach, so with that info, I created a squad called East Beach. We loaded up in the support truck and asked nardini to go to the small village emplacement just about the road from East beach. After setting a quick rally we brought the CO truck in and then started to build a FB. After building the FB, and deploying Razorwire and Sandbags I had my squad get their guns out and sit up on the hills to the north, while I went in to see what exactly was going on at the east beach flag. All was quiet, which as we know, can mean dangerous things. After a few short engagements (one was taking out a USMC APC) Drifter brought up a vodnik, and with him and jesus, we drove up to setup a quick RP. MCD had the H-AT, Cornado I asked to grab a MANPAD, and then the flag at East Beach was taken by the USMC. It was clear with what objective I wanted to make, and with the help of the commander we set forth to make it happen. After looking through the binocs, all I could see was one lone soldier in the East Beach Flag area, no bunker, no CP, no viable threat from the USMC. Drifter and I then made our approach to the north fence, me covering the south side him covering the north. The flag started to go our way, coronadoseal moved in, and I had MCD15 and jesus stay up near the vodnik where the ammo was, alerted us by spotting if anything was nearby and mcd with the HAT ready to go. Nardini suggested that we bring the CO truck down, and at first I figured, why, we haven’t gotten the flag yet, but his thinking was right on, and he made his way to the FB and got in the truck. Drifter moved north around the front entrance scoping out the pillbox, I moved around the south spotting a lone engineer and taking him out. We then all moved in, and the flag was ours. After getting INTEL that our CP was blown to bits, we maintained a perimeter and started to set mines, waiting for the CP to be back online again. Coranado at this point locked a few hueys trying to enter our airspace, they bugged out and it was time to build. (Coronado and Jesus took the vodnik this time due south to make sure no enemy rallies were in the area) The bunker was set, after misplacing the AA gun, nardini blew it, I was able to set it outside the beach itself and we were good to go. We held East Beach from then on. Even after I somehow lost connection and had to rejoin where I then faced a mic problem (nardini told me how to fix it) it was back to defense. Though We lost some non-sm’s to SMs but all in all, it was great fun. We were taking some APC fire, though I believe our APC and possibly MCD took it out, we made sure that those hueys knew this was a no fly zone and once the bleed was on full force we brought out the beach chairs, took off our packs and decided to get some Rays. It was the first time in a while that this map was a walk in the park, had there been a USMC bunker in East Beach and Rallies to the south, it would have been a whole different story. The plan was right out of a textbook (our kits used throughout this map were, OFFICER, HAT, ENGI, RIFLEMAN, MANPAD, MEDIC, MARKSMEN) 1. Squad with CO truck head to village emplacement 2. Setup FB AA, razorwire/sandbags. 3 Scope out the perimeter, direct fire where needed. 4 Head to East Beach, Setup rally, scope out perimeter. 5 Cap East Beach Flag, make sure no hostiles were to the south. 6. Set up bunker and defenses, and wait for the USMC to try their luck. Plain and simple, and I love it when a plan comes together.
