Qwai River (27/05/0) - Tales from Squad 6

Qwai River - tales from Squad 6

Squad leader - A.Wickens

Squad members - TG-Ollie Fool
Funeral Music
Moorron
Nemesis 123
LLJK Killaer1111

Mission statement - Spawn at processing, roll out, set Rp and cut South Bridge to halt PLA armour advance

Harass PLA at fishing Village to stop them getting a strong foot hold and
Prevent early asset deployment

Build assets at Gov’t Office and then defend and hold

Pending developments move out and capture and hold Fishing Village

Spawn and roll out was as smooth as silk and rolling Rp’s were set up to the bridge. Our engineers set C4 and blew the bridge as the rumble of PLA armour was still only a distant sound. Mines were then placed on the east side of the bridge should the PLA make repairs. We moved North along the river bank just as PLA infantry moved into Fishing Village supported by Vehicles. Ollie was assigned the LAT kit and set about destroying the Nanjing as the rest of the squad selected and eliminated the Infantry.

On Co orders we then fell back to Gov’t Office and linked up with the squad already on station there.
A Co truck was already in place so I placed a bunker and made good our defences with razor wire and sandbags. As I set out our defences under fire from a rapid PLA assault the rest of the squad took turns shovelling and shooting until we had secured both the Northern and Eastern entrances. The initial PLA assault defeated we hunkered down and dug in.

Such was my confidence in the ability of my squad that I advised the Co that if he wished he could push more squads on to the assault on fishing village as my guys were happy to defend Gov’t Office and we would hold our ground. (Cue stirring music as I stood atop Gov’t Office beaming, chest swollen with pride as my mighty young warriors steeled themselves with a resolve and professionalism that I could only admire.) We then dug in like an ‘Alabama tick’ and held the line. As wave after wave of PLA troops fell on Gov’t Office these fine men bent but never broke, indomitable, unrelenting and magnificent. Each hole in our defence was responded to and plugged instantly, targets were identified and dealt with rapidly. I was constantly updated with contact reports to enable adjustments to be made, and we held. Still they came, and we held. Thanks to the other squad that constantly diverted back to us to provide assistance during the worst of the onslaught, it was appreciated by all.

It became clear that I could tether these Dogs of War no longer so I unleashed them in patrols of 1’s and 2’s to actively hunt down the assaulting forces and their rally points. The stream of reports of enemies killed confirmed the hell I had unleashed was patrolling its territory with a ruthless will to dominate the ground and eradicate all that opposed it.

As I surveyed the carnage they had wrought upon their foes I felt as if I was at the reins of a chariot, a chariot called WAR pulled towards victory by 5 hellhounds, they in turn driven by the taste of their enemies blood.

To try to stem the tide of assault from the PLA we located their firebase not 50 metres from our still undiscovered rally point and applied C4 liberally. Kaboom and the PLA assault on Office was dealt a hefty blow.

As our attacks on Fishing Village foundered time after time it became apparent that a larger hammer was required to crack that particular nut. Would the minnows of Fishing Village be able to withstand the fury brought to bear by the junk yard dogs of Gov’t Ofice. Mentally I played this game of Animal Kingdom Top Trumps out. I knew the answer, in anyone’s book DOG BEATS FISH!

Emboldened by the caffeine induced visions/hallucinations that had come to me I gave the warning order for our assault on Fishing and the guys tooled up in anticipation.

We approached the river’s edge and instigated our plan. I would remain near our RP with a plentiful supply of ammo after selecting the trusty M14. I would then provide target information and sniper cover as the rest of the squad assaulted the flag.

The Dogs of War took to the water and were on their way. Another caffeine rush led me to think how these amphibious dogs of war could only be more lethal if they had ‘frickin lazer beams’ on their heads.

The squad reached the flag and began clearing out the opposing infantry. As PLA reinforcements arrived from both north and west I engaged targets at will and identified others for the squad to eliminate. Enemy RP’s were ransacked and threats eliminated left and right and soon the flag was ours for the keeping. We had done it.

Then the heartbreaking news came, we had lost Gov’t Office. The hurt, the shame, the anger!
We had held for so long, tried so hard and in the end it didn’t really matter (to quote Linkin Park I believe). The gamble had not paid off. Soon other flags fell to the relentless onslaught of the PLA war machine. The tide of the battle had well and truly turned. As we recovered from the devastating blow to morale I called a JDAM on Gov’t Office as a last ditch attempt to halt our impending defeat, but to no avail. It hit….nothing! The human wave of PLA troops had already swept through Gov’t Office and was pounding on the shores of Processing, as relentless as the very River Qwai itself. The latent strike echoing in the empty buildings eradicating the memories of our noble stand. It was game over for the US. We consoled ourselves with a brief spell of bridge diving in an attempt to lighten the mood and wash away the lingering stench of defeat.

I would like to thank the other squad at Gov’t office for helping us hold for so long, sorry I couldn’t name you here but I wanted to post this as quickly as possible and I am terrible with BFR files.
Your assistance was crucial at times and very gratefuly received. Thanks to our Co who did a great job. Also thanks and congratulations to our opponents, you fought well and deserved your victory.

Finally I would like to thank my squad, you were fantastic and it was a privilege to lead you into combat chaps. You fought hard (100 + kills I think) and followed orders but always applied initiative.
You maintained your cool, discipline and humour at all times. Despite the defeat for me that game was a win, a fantastic game all round, thank you all.
