    Qinling - Wednesday night 29-Oct-08, ~8:30->11pm EST

Qinling, PLA - "INFANTREE", squad 1
    |TG-6th|eGoatBoy, Stryker10-45, Permafrost, with guest appearnaces by CoNdoM-FiGhTeR, killerchrille15, $hifTy.StyLeZ.LT, [TG]Chaka, Onimaho, CupMonger, and CRUNKJUNT

First off, much thanks to the squad for their patience and especially to Stryker and Permafrost for sticking it out with me for the whole round.

We started off by spawning in at PLA FOB, grabbing a support truck and moving off into Village. Once capped we built the usual assortment of firebases, AA, HMG, wire, and sandbags. My wire placement was pathetic...it's effectiveness was going to be limited to confusing the OpFor. Confusing them as to why anyone would put wire in such stupid spots...

Anyway, we set about our defences and as can happen boredom started to set in and we were being tempted to move off. Fortunately the British decided to alleviate our boredom by attacking us. We fended them off. That meant we killed a bunch of them. It was fun.

Eventually though we did move off, as it looked like our team had a chance to cap Farm Outpost...squad 5 was in great position. However, the axiom that "an under defended flag WILL be lost" held and the Brits flipped Village. Somewhat of a back and forth occurred between Village and Coal Mine where we only had one or the other and couldn't get both. Did I mention I hate Coal Mine...

The Brits did however manage to get both Village and Coal Mine a couple times and that put us on some bleed. It looked from my ground pounders point of view that they had armor and air superiority for most of the game, so it felt pretty uphill most of the time.

After our squad was pushed off of mine I ended up getting us stuck up in the hills east with no wheels, and only L-AT, with too much British armor nearby. I decided to relocate the squad near G5k1 in order to set-up some vehicle traps around the road. I wanted to try and slow the armor advances into Coal Mine. All we really managed to do though was report on armor movements, until...

We saw 3 enemy tanks retreat towards Farm Outpost. I presumed they were either off to reload or reposition into the hills east of Coal Mine. Regardless, that moment was opportunity, and we knew it. We had squad 5 (I believe) near Coal Mine and they put bodies on the flag quickly. I saw that Farm Outpost was going to come into play and that we were in position to move on it.

For me, it was the highlight of the game. Our squad expedited to Farm Outpost. Permafrost got a great LAT shot on a Merlin there on our way in. We split into 2 fireteams, and attacked from the west and south, re-establishing our RP on the south. We must have had some element of surprise because we got onto the flag with very little opposition...I think we only had to kill about 3 or so guys.

First order of business was to destroy the bunker there, and then dig in for the inevitable capital "R" retaliation. However, our squad managed to flip and hold the flag for much longer than I expected.

The British won by 83 tickets, but the team effort to put them on bleed gave us the initiative for the first time in the game and I think helped seriously close the gap.

Eventually we got overrun, and ended up back at Village for the remainder of the game. We avoided the Brit JDAM through a fortuitous decision to rally north of Village moments before, in the hopes of killing any vehicles that may come into support.

Good times, and congrats to the Brits!

    Cheers,

I was also kicked by pb but Im glad you guys got Farm, I think thats a decent bleed rate so Im surprised you didnt win

I dont think Chinese air power was all that it should have been in order to win this map. The eurofighter still has an innate advantage? Anyway its an essential element on this map, maybe more so even then kashan

If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have obviously failed to plan properly.

It was a great game. I was in a British armor squad with Portable.Cougar, McGann, Disposable, Liquid.Watch, and Fligs. Disposable was my tank driver and did a great job! The only death we had was an impressive bombing of both our tanks while we sat in the tunnel opening at Coal Mine. Whoever lased and bombed us... my hats off to you.

Anyway, Disposable and I were something like 38-1... so thanks to the other SLs and our CO for spotting enemy assets! We had some surprise encounters, that's for sure... but at least half of the targets were at known locations so we were able to move into advantageous positions and take them out. Also thanks to our engineers. At one point we took two direct hits from an enemy tank south of Village. While PortableCougar and McGann sacrificed themselves by placing their tank between us and the enemy, the engineers were able to salvage us and get us back to full health. Awesome job!

Snowman, MP40 and myself ran a dedicated H/AT squad with 3 nanjings for ammo the entire round pretty much. Started out with just myself setting up north of Vill where I caught 2 apc's, a firebase and a piece of a challenger before having to return to main to rearm myself and the ammo box.

By this time Snowman joined in and picked up the 2nd H/AT when the team lost villiage and the FOB was in play. We setup west of the FOB to defend as the rest of the team had already left it defenseless. An unlucky challenger was trying to camp it from up in the hills to the west. He was our first victim. MP40 soon joined us bringing up a 3rd nanjing and ammo box giving us very fast reloads. His service in keeping the nanjings reloaded and spotting was invaluable. We then heard a 2nd challenger approach from coal mine. As it crested the hill I placed the attack marker on him and Snowman and I fired together killing it instantly. Once Village was back in our hands we moved a bit further east of FOB after rearming all the nanjings at main.

Just in time we find our hide as 2 enemy tanks were rolling in from coal mine on the FOB. Again we both found the spot and fired as one killing another challenger in place as it looked down on FOB from the NW. His wingmate began scanning furiously causing us both to goto cover before we could reload. Luckily for us someone spawned at FOB and drew his attention and fire giving us enough time to effect reloads as the last tank started to disengage back to coal mine as our team greyed it. As it slowly ground toward us we both drew a bead and as it slowed on an uphill section we were able to destroy it with another volley.

Throughout the match I think we accounted for 6 or 7 challengers, 5 or 6 warriors, 3 stormers, 4 landrovers and a few command trucks. We used 4 set locations the entire round moving back and forth between them as they offered the perfect hide for our nanjings and ammo while giving us beautiful firing points. Definitely the most fun I've had on that map.

I was wondering, at all ilf there was a commander on either side, because from these AAR's this could quite possibly be the best non-commanded group of players on a map yet.

There were moments when I desparately wanted one of those kits in my squad

That said, there was no question that you guys opened a few alleys for us that allowed my squad to move...and some of your kills were darn timely!

There was no commander on the PLA side at all. We certainly suffered for it as well. I'd say the pain would be measured in terms of 83 points

Yes, the British had a Commander who was instrumental in spotting enemies more quickly by placing markers on the map and assigning targets to our armor squads (since we had two armor squads).

    +1 for CO's.

EDIT: it is indisputable that the single most powerful force multiplier is command and control...the benefits that the increased level of coordination bring are many and varied

I was actually disappointed with the way things were going when I first joined the server during Qinling. What I saw was a quite a few people at the main base squabbling over vehicles or just waiting around for downed aircraft. The squads I joined were not really trying to get organized or the SL was just letting people do as they wished. I tried numerous times to join in squad 2 and one other squad but both seemed like they were always full. Towards the last 20 minutes of the map I felt like that was when people were getting serious about the game.

Yeah, I was one of your engineers at the beginning of the round.

I ended up getting teamswitched, so I just left.
