Thursday Jan 29th - Nuke and frontline event AAR

Thursday Jan 29th - Nuke and frontline event

Heres a few recaps, I wasn't there the whole night and came and went several times.
Thanks to Mantis for organizing this & thanks out to Ghalas to helping seed the server a little before the event.

    Highway to Hell Front Line-
UKR came out the winner, a hard fought battle for the middle of town. Germany tried some successful flanking maneuvers that pushed UKR back to the outskirts of town but lucky for us they were unable to push us out completely and we maintained a steady ticket bleed on them almost the entire round. The German armor found it hard to move over open ground while the Ukraine had holed up in buildings and behind walls taking potshots at them with AT.

Ishotcha1 squad trying to stop the Germans from advancing into town. Seconds before I blast my own Sl in the back with AT

    Olesko Keep Frontline-
This one is always a meat grinder especially in frontline mode because you can spawn on the flags. UKR came out on top. My Squad was mostly tasked defending courtyard it seemed. Plenty of close in fighting!

german squad gearing up trying for courtyard.

Guardian Frontline- UKR side ended up having a flag bug. Where the flag does not move correctly and they end up with no spawn point. They were able to fall back and recapture the first flag though and most of the Germans held back to give them some room to move up. Definitely the most armor in use at once on the poe server for a long time.

The German team moving up. Picking up more armor with each flag.

    Carpathian Mountains Nuke Mode-
Came in on the UKR side half way through. Seemed like some of the Germans were unclear on what needed doing. Plenty of snipers and APCs sitting back. Although some did come crashing in with jeeps and got a few hits in on the nuke before time ran out.

Germans put some hurt on the nuke

Obviously some players did seem unclear on the objectives to the various game types. So heres a refresher...

Nuke Mode- As the attacking force your job is to keep placing and detonating as many C4 packs as you can until the nuke is destroyed. The defenders need to prevent this from happening and keep the nuke alive until time runs out. Shooting AT at the nuke or staying back and being a sniper will not win your team the round. Its also important not to get drawn into attacking the defenders at the exclusion of damaging the nuke.

    From the POE2 Manual-

Nuke mode is a form of objective mode, which pits Germany trying to take down Ukraine’s nuclear missiles. The mode is based on a time (Set by server admins) and Germany must rush against the clock to take out the missile before its too late.
Frontline- Each side only has one flag at a time. You move up the line of flags. As soon as you take one you can move to the next to capture it. The goal is to push the other team backwards and off the map. Or win by ticket count by defending at some point in the line.

    From the POE2 Manual-

"Frontline mode is exactly as it sounds… fights are at the front line. Players must capture flags in order to advance. Once a flag is taken that becomes the teams only flag that they can spawn at or that spawns equipment. Win the round by pushing farther into the enemy territory which will cause them to bleed. “We recommend this mode
be played with 32 players MAX.”
We were also having some punkbuster md5 tool problems especially at the start of rounds where we would loose several players at a time. I personally had this happen 2-3 times during the night.

Overall a very fun night. Both modes forces all the players to focus on one objective and that makes for some intense firefights. Looking forward to a repeat in the near future.

Good times, would have been better if more people were educated in the Nuke mode though and if PB stopped this pointless md5 kicking rampage.

The hardest thing about the Md5 error is the two minute ban time; that's forever when your trying to get back into your squad. I had one happen as a SL when I spawned in during the first seconds of a frontline map last night.
