Phospho Raid during Operation Archer - USMC 2/27/2009

After receiving intermittent reports that Taliban Insurgents in the area smuggling ammo caches from nearby Pakistan, the Marines of Task Force Bravo were sent out to conduct search and destroy missions throughout the northwest corridor of Afghanistan.

The ongoing Operation has since gone under the name "Operation Archer."

After successfully being inserted in the Eastern part of the area squad 7 was put on the task of surveying the area and eliminating any known Taliban threat as well as destroying any Ammo Caches or possible enemy fire bases in the area.

Squad 7 known primarily as "Infantry" included:
    |TG-31st|Mr.Bob_Vila
    |TG-6th|Snooggums
    |TG-X|McGann
    |TG-X|W.Warehouse
    |TG|CsxGamerz

As the SL of squad 7, and after successfully being inserted into the farmland area of E7 I believe we immediately noticed that the local farming area smelled of Taliban activity. Crops in the area had been destroyed and the water pump which we and other Marines had helped build less than 4 months ago had already been stolen, and the crops in the area were already dead, it was going to be a tough spring growing season for the locals.

After hearing radio chatter that squad 4 to our NW was being engaged we moved south, setting up a temporary rally, and started to move in a flanking position, it was there where we saw the enemy trying to engage our nearby squad. After successfully killing some rogue Taliban Insurgents and checking out a nearby bombed out village I let the SL of squad 4 know that they were in the clear, and could resume their Search and Destroy mission to the north.

It was then that I decided squad 7 would head SE and patrol a Village that was known previously to be a hotbed for illegal Taliban Weapon sales.

Upon entering the village not a soul was seen, it was too quiet, normally we were greeted by children asking for candy, the locals would come out with smiles on their faces, and the Village elders would invite us in to their homes to discuss what they needed and how in turn they would help us to restore peace and civility in the region. However, there was none of that today, the village was empty, too empty for our liking.

After doing a routine search of the village, and destroying a enemy rally, we proceeded to move further south, I recieved a sighting of a Taliban insurgent creeping along the hillside spying on us, normal behavior of the Taliban, but I decided we needed to investigate further.

Then Mcgann and Gamerz who were on point, started to recieve some AK Fire. It seems we had stumbled upon a enemy Firebase, and a enemy rally, Mcgann and gamerz were injured, warehouse had found himself in a hole nearby, and Buddha came up from the rear and started to engage.

Fortunately for us we had the higher ground, Gamerz was dead, and could not be revived, I had him spawn in as a rifleman specialist upon his return, and we then were able to easily take out the enemy FB, rally and kill a few of those Taliban pests in the process.

I then gave the order that were were to move back towards the village, there was no coincidence that we stumbled upon an enemy FB, there had to be more Taliban nearby and we were going to clear them out.

It was then that a dirtbike came out from over the hills, as Warehouse moved up the rear, i believe with Buddha and McGann? they engaged and killed not only the 2 men on the bike but the bike itself. I was up front with Gamerz and Snoogums, i believe. We set a temp rally and then we started to have some more fun. Gamerz was tasked with breaching and we conducted room by room searches, I moved up to the northern side of the village while Buddha, Snooggums and Gamerz searched the buildings below. Warehouse and Mcgann were with me as we set a rally to the NW and continued to conduct our mission.

All of a sudden, we saw some more insurgents to our south, spotters and some light infantry, we quickly engaged and McGann started to fire off some M203 rounds which I helped zero in for some quick kills.

Out of nowhere, our rally was overrun, however we hadn't heard any gunfire, nor had we taken any fire to our north. As we turned around, we saw 2 Talibano's exiting a building we had previously cleared, or so we thought. I gave the order to hold fire, letting them leave, and then we went to investigate. Intel reported at this time that no caches were in the area, however this was no coincidence, something was up.

We were recently supplied with Phosphorus grenades, it seems some congressmen felt that we could no longer use our trusty zippo lighters in combat, and furthermore, our fragmentation grenades in previous missions proved to not have the desired effect on the cache itself.

As W.Warehouse moved in, we provided Security to the north and south, "fire in the hole" was yelled and we moved back, and truth be told, the enemy now had one more less cache in the area. As I moved to set up a new RP with some squad mates, we encountered more gunfire. We moved to engage, covering one another, and then when we thought all was safe, there was still one left to kill. As revives were made, I moved in and made sure the cell leader was dead, it was quick but a few shots in the head will definitely make them stay down.

Then to our south, we saw more spotters and infantry, and started to engage again, it was at this time that I had heard over Comms that our company was successful in stopping the latest shipment of ammo caches in the area.

All around it was a lot of fun, this was the first time I had the chance to play as the USMC on the map, and everyone did their job, we called out contacts, made sure to engage the proper targets (though an errant bullet of mine managed to strike gamerz in the thigh, but warehouse was able to bandage him up rather quickly), and successfully destroyed 2 enemy rally points, one enemy FB and once cache. Due to a Air Force fighter pilot who found himself in the base for the day, we didn't make it out of our base safely the first time, those Jet pilots, and their rush to get into the air. However Celestial, was a sight to see when we respawned and we were inserted into the area by him.

(i decided to not count those deaths incurred in the beginning to our squad, as a total by rounds end, we only had 1 or 2 deaths, and the rest of us had at least 3 kills and 0 deaths)

Great job squad I hope to be able to squad up with you again the next time we are deployed to conduct some missions during "Operation Archer."
