It was a typical day in the southern region of Russia near the Georgian Border about 50 miles south of the town called Toga, which lives up to its name on every second saturday of the month. Being a soldier in the Russian Army I just came back from a weekend Jaunt near the Caspian Sea, and upon my return I was told I was going to be placed in the CE squad, lead by the revered Squad Leader known only as Portable.Cougar. True to his name when he was off duty he was as relaxed as Gazelle enjoying the hot African sun and relaxing in the water, but when he was ordered to attack, the beast within roared and fear would spread to all village nearby in Chechnya.
I had just had enough time to stow away my gear, when the loud speakers at the base came alive. The Russian National Anthem played in the background as our General told us that the Chechen rebels to the north had ambushed a convoy carrying wounded soldiers and medical supplies. It was our turn to unleash hell back at them, and to do it in the name of Mother Russia!
Originally we were going to be combat engineers, patrolling the nearby villages, doing some demolition work and taking in the cold mountain air which the forests were situated in, however this all changed once the loud speakers became alive, we had a new task, there were many strange things happening in the nearby villages, the Chechen's were killing everything they saw, and they were not taking any prisoners, someone needed to respond to the call and after this day our name would be sealed in history and we would be known as the Chechen Exterminators!
Cougar, along with myself, a fellow named wargasm, who not only had this effect on women, but also would bring his enemies down to their knees in terror hopped in, a soldier by the name of Sir-Nerd did as well (story was that some time in the 80's he was knighted in England by the Queen herself for excellence in his studies), a man by the name of Katanama who sliced and diced both his enemies and his food, and a Surfer from the island of Hawaii who went by the name McGann, there was one other fellow but i have forgotten his name.
We commandeered a BTR, or as we called it the Ecto–1, it resembled a hearse, but included a force to be reckoned with. I had the Priveledge to be the gunner in this scenario, unleashing Armor Piercing bullets and machine gun fire into our victims and the vehicles they rode in.
After transporting some troops across the bridge chaos soon filled part of our company, random soldiers were taking logistic trucks into the path of enemy armor, the sight was nerve racking to say the least, it was a good thing we had many veterans of the Chechen Conflict with us, or we would have been wiped out that day.
After dropping off several members of the team to set up ambushes, Cougar and I took drive near the abandoned helicopter base and set up a perimeter while another squad built up a firebase, it was then that we were told a lone Chechen BRDM had slipped past our ambush squad, and was looking to kill. It was interesting seeing these in the hands of the Chechen's when in fact these BRDM's were relics of the Russian Army of the 70's, many in fact were used in Afghanistan, and well, we still were using them within our military in the present day.
As we rolled up, it was right there, and after opening up, it soon caught fire and blew up before our eyes, as we drove by you could hear the faint screams for help as the Chechen rebels who were caught inside burned alive.
Our Ambush squad held the line, taking down some technicals and some trucks, but then we lost our knighted member, and we were then left with 4 or 5, but there was still plenty of kills to be handed out.
During the course of action, the BTR proved it worthiness in battle, being able to take down troops that made the ill mistake of firing at us, the 7.62 round didn't have the power of the BTR's .50 caliber gun, as it sprayed those who hid behind trees were the ones praying not to be hit.
Even toward the end of the mighty battle, I found myself under the guide of Cougar who seperated from the squad we started off in, allowing another trusty squad leader named McGann to take the reigns, Katanama was able to take down a Tank or 2, and even proved that while in possession of the Heavy AT he had the Lightning speed to out run incoming friendly artillery.
As a whole the carnage that was unleashed that day to the Chechens proved that they were not match for us, there is a reason why when you look at the map, it says Russia even over the Capital of the so called Chechen City of Grozny. The Land belongs to Mother Russia and the force of the BTR and wide assortment of weaponary proved that we in fact were one day closer to victory.
The Chechen Exterminators would soon be called again, but that would be on a different day, when something strange happens in your neighborhood or village. That is when you will call..........
*The Russian Team won, it was a hard fought battle, however I know i left out lots of other details, but I can't remember, though i do want to say great squad leading by AFSoccer, and Startrekern, also Sonic deserves a notable mention of once figuring out that the spandrel acts differently than Canadia's lone main battle tank, proved to be effective, great job by all!!*Randy = Ace ! - Warlab
