Where to start.
The plan I guess. We were on mec and I wanted to do a defensive game on our side of the river, using a frontline of defending squads, then behind that a squad that would also hold the city, but would have space to respond to inevitable weak spots in the front and flanking movements.
Then I also had a squad using some kind of light armor. I asked them to patrol around the back of the front in the open areas to spot for intruders trying to steal our rye.
I did my best to explain everything to teh squadleaders and the team. But off course teh usual difficulties arose, especially since I needed to be extremely specific for the plan to work. And SL's on
TG just aren't used to following rule n1 (imo): obey chain of command.
So off we go. The first ten minutes, everyone sort of moved to their position, and the two FOB's were placed in the requested locations. Everything started looking good, and then one squad insisted to go into the killzone I had nicely set up for the whole team....
Thus screwing up the whole plan, and everything the whole rest of the team was working for. After 10 more minutes of ordering and begging them to stop it, an eventual barrage of profanity poured over me, and one last warning that the admins would kick him if he did not follow the orders...
And then it all worked.
The squads alerted me at times of attempts by the enemy to sneak in, and I would call fire from the nearby other squads to that target. Most of the time though they only managed to kill the squad, not even the RP.
I believe the high, north part of the city was never breached to any effect.
At one point the ACE vehicle patrol alerted me of a flanking squad to the north-west. This was the biggest threat we faced all game, because they got close to our western FOB, and they HAT-ed the light armored vehicle.
But not to panic, the squads that had west defense, + the squad in the center that was sopposed to react to breaches, and the vehicle squad (on foot) took care of them in what seems to have been quite a hefty skirmish.
Then the squads resumed position. The enemy pushed the east side island later with what I heard was a massive push, but they were contained while things quieted down as people were getting used to cooperation and teamwork improved by the minute.
Several times I think squads I sent out to help were able to "resue" the other squads.
So for me, it ended up as a good game. In fact a great game, the sort of game the old PW nights used to be like a long time ago on good days. I was thrilled next round to hear that some other people also really enjoyed to play a map in a different, highly organised way.
Many thanks to all the people that helped out so well, and to the people that hated my guts, but did not forget the server rules and still helped in the plan.
Plz let me now how it was to play this round boots on ground, because I have no idea and I really would like t know how it went, and also how the other team experienced this game.
***Almost forgot, we got a very nice ticket win (70-0). I have no idea how much of this was due to individual skill, but I would guess the plan didn't hurt our game at least.
In the screen you can vaguely see the arc of our defense, and the skulls are the killzones, where we had overlapping fire and altitude advantage. The enemy was to come in these zones and get shot, while none of ours was to go there.
