Squad is organized; a refined recon force, codename Flapjacks.
All new soldiers were required pass a quiz before being admitted into the squad.
The only question on the quiz: "Do you like Flapjacks, Soldier?!"

The Operation starts, and my squad loads into an HMMVW and immediately makes a dash to Objective 61 to get the area captured quickly. We were met by another small squad who assisted in the capture.
The flag was captured with no resistance. We then confirmed with command that we were to move on ahead while the other squad defended the area. I left our HMMVW to the other squad in the area, and relayed the plan to my squad. We were going across the river by boat, and walking up a footpath East of the Temple near the riverbank, to set up a small staging area. After reaching the temple, a small oriental building was designated as the rallypoint for our squad. Our water route is highlighted in light blue, rally location represented as a green square.

Almost immediately, I recieved reports from command that PLA infantry had already reached Objective 61. A small PLA infantry force had passed South Bridge in an attempt to halt our teams progress, and managed to neutralize our hold on the Objective. Our forces fought hard for a long time, and due to the engagements I had our squad wait in the immediate vicinity of the Temple to ensure that we could be quickly dispatched to help our friendlies if needed, and we spent our time watching the road to the Southern Bridge.
Our team was having a hard time pushing back the PLA infantry forces. As time went on, the PLA force began pushing our forces back and inflicting heavy casualties on our squads in the area. I was contacted by command, and was told that we were needed to assist in ridding the area of PLA infantry.
We doubletimed it down the dirtpath back to our RHIB, and sped across the river back to the facility dock, and quickly moved up the path to flank the PLA infantry which was firing down upon our infantry from a large structure.
We quickly flushed the enemy out of cover and pushed them North, where they would be gunned down by friendlies. I don't believe we directly killed more than a single enemy, but the entire force was quickly eliminated by our friendlies after we had forced them off of their high ground.
We began moving back to the docks now that the thread was taken care of, when a squadmember spotted a stealthy PLA force emerging from a treeline. I reported them to command, and my squad's Automatic Rifleman began to deploy. I had the entire squad begin firing down upon the enemy before they noticed us. There was a ferocious hail of fire from our SAW, and another barrage coming from the other five rifles in the squad. The PLA forces immediately scrambled for cover, and were shot in the backs as they did. Supporting fire was also coming from friendlies to the East of the enemy squad, which was pockmarking the grounds with bulletholes. The grounds where the enemy had been standing just an instant beforehand was now violently jumping and spewing dirt and grass, while being impregnated by lead. Two of the enemy managed to make it to cover, but not without being wounded in the process. Our SAW gunner continually fired upon the area to keep them pinned. Then, I had him pause fire for just a moment and sure enough the two made a mad rush to escape, but were immediately gunned down by our squad.
The small force was eliminated, but I was sure of a rally point nearby; I ordered my squad to pack up and move, and reported the suspected rally point to command. Friendlies soon after moved around the outside of the facility walls and pushed the enemy out of the area once and for all.
We then moved back across the river, back to our rally, and I laid out the plan for capturing the Bridge. We were going to move through the ricefields North of the Temple, to the Main road which led to the bridge, and would cross the road to the small Village Northwest of the Bridge. We would occupy that territory to be ready when the Bridge was able to be captured.
We head out, staying low among the crops, crossing the small stream, and made our way up the incline to the road. I ordered the squad to stay low in the grass, and to hold their fire on all contacts until I gave orders to fire. A quick scan of the area revealed that a lone PLA troop was walking East down the road. I told my squad his location, and told them to hold fire until my call, at which point we would all stand and fire. I waited for him to get closer. And closer, and closer still. At 75 meters, I called out 'FIRE!'
It took us around 30 minutes to reach this point of the battle. We watched the soldier's movement for 15 seconds. We rose from the grass, and he was killed in less than a second. He had no time to react, and no one to help him. I almost felt sorry for him. But then I reminded myself that he wasn't on my team.
We moved across the road quickly, and came across two supply trucks left abandoned. One was just off the side of the road near the dirt path to the Village, and one was stored in the wooden barn; both were quickly destroyed. We took up occupation in the barn, keeping a low profile until the Southern Bridge could be captured. Meanwhile, friendlies at Objective 61 were again taking fire from PLA infantry, and the flag was again neutralized. We were assured by command that the situation would be handled, and proceeded to station ourselves in the upper floor of the barn. I had two Rifleman keep their focus on the two entrances to the barn, and had my Automatic Rifleman keep his focus on the road to the bridge, which was easily viewed by a large opening on the second floor of the barn, facing Southwest. During our time there, vehicles were heard driving by, and were reported to command to warn our friendlies defending Objective 61. Enemy vehicle path highlighted in dark red. Eastern squad of Objective 61 may have been able to engage the enemy vehicles as they approached, noted by the white engagement line.

Fighting continued and the flag remained contested for almost 10 minutes. Progress seemed bleak, and casualties were incurred on both sides of the fight. I must have been in contact with command every minute asking how the fight was going or reporting enemies moving down the road. Meanwhile, the PLA team was unaware of our presence, due to our hiding spot as well as strict firing discipline. A friendly squad had set up a firebase on the East side of the bridge, and began denying access by the road to the facility.
Then, while watching the map, I noticed that the friendly squad that was previously outside the walls of the facility was now inside; the objective could be captured soon! The Chinese force could attack all they wanted, but the squads at Objective 61 just had to keep safe and keep them at bay, and the team could move on. The minutes from my realization to the capture of the flag seemed to go on for hours; and then, it turned in our favor. The flag was captured, and it allowed us to begin capturing the Bridge objective!
Before the PLA could even react, the Southern Bridge had been swiped out from under their feet, blocking off their route to the facility, and pushing them quickly back to the Estate objective in just minutes.
Squads began moving immediately out of facility, leaving any remaining attackers for abandon, and moving up to the firebase on the Eastern side of the bridge, and establishing transport across the river.
My squad began making it's way North through the small Village, and headed to the Estate. Little to my knowledge, but well planned by command, Squad 2 had already arrived at Estate, Logistics had set up a stealthily placed firebase, and was Squad 2 already assaulting the objective. My squad came across heavy fire just Southeast of the Estate, and most of the squad was critcally wounded during the firefight, and the medic and rifleman remaining were ordered to disengage and retreat from the firefight. Squad 2 singlehandedly took care of the remaining enemy force on Estate, and my medic began treating wounds while a single rifleman covered him.
Light blue line shows the assumed path of Squad 2, yellow-green infantry markers are the rough locations of the 4 wounded members of my squad, who are waiting for the 2 remaining to treat them.
After being treated for wounds, and the rest of my squad members recieving treatment, we moved onto the flag to help finish capturing Estate.
Transport had been arranged, staged, and completed to get a majority of the team attacking PLA Operations base from the South and East, and a HMMVW had taken up defending the Southern path from the Base. A large infantry firefight was already under-way when I decided that I would move my squad towards the Northern side of the objective, to ensure that the infantry would be boxed in to the objective. Squads remained at a distance to slowly pick off the remainder of the PLA force at the flag, and Artillery was called in while we were approaching the area. It was a sight to see; tracers flying left and right, gunfire cracking, grenades exploding... and then, it was all immediately replaced by a large, ominous, destructive 'boom' of an artillery shell. And another. More of the shells rained down, and Chinese infantry scrambled to get out of the zone. Some were so desperate that they ran into our attacking force, and others had abandoned hope, just firing away through the shell shock and eventually being smashed by a shell designated specially for him. One unlucky enemy soldier took a step too far while running away, and fell down the Northern cliff of the Operations Base.

The assaulting squads then proceeded to move in, captured the flag, and we won the round (153-0).
After nearly an hour of fighting, it had taken just over 10 minutes after capturing Objective 61 for the final time, before we had defeated the PLA force. My thanks go to Startrekern for very effectively commanding the force that round, my squad for it's superb discipline and obedience, as well as their humor throughout the entire game, even when things seemed bleak we enjoyed ourselves. Also thanks to the logistics squad, [KTA] rangedReCon and |
TG-Irr|Liquid.Watch for their help in establishing firebases both behind the frontlines as well as in the government office area, which greatly helped in limiting enemy movement, as well as all of the infantry involved that round that helped fight off the enemy at Objective 61, and Nardini's squad 2 that helped capture Estate.
My squad had 5 or less individual casualties throughout the game (2 may be disconnects, I don't remember; none of them were related deaths either), and made up for that equally with 5 kills. Kudos to each of them for being such great squad members.
