Jabal Al Burj squad member report 10/11/2009 8pm GMT-6:00
I joined the server for this round which lasted about 1 hour and 45 minutes. I loaded into the US side as the round began where AFsoccer had already started squad number 8, and he requested I join. Shortly after disposable and McGann with the 10th joined, [CoFR]Akaz joined and a spot was saved for Pacho who was loading in. Skud had created a squad earlier and had 5 random players. I checked the team list and saw many regulars and other IHS on the other side and Soccer said that teams were good as they had just lost an Insurgency map as the OpFor side.
Our squad consisted of:
6th:
AFSoccer - SL
snooggums - mostly HAT
10th:
McGann - rifleman
disposable - medic
Pancho - AR I believe
CoFR:
Akaz - started rifleman, had enemy AR kit while we were at dam.
We started the map holding spawn while Soccer and disposable got a chopper ride to West Beach. After landing a rally was placed and the rest of us spawned and got kits from the chopper crates as needed. The flag was quickly capped and we started a foot trek up the mountain east of the flag towards the dam. Skud and another squad had already moved in, so we requested some crate drops from the transport choppers and built a FOB in the mountains SW of Dam. We joined the fight by holding at the powerstation (within cap radius) on the NW side of the dam. We shot a few infantry, and I was able to kill a BTR that was approaching through the water from the north. After holding that position and starting to turn the flag a command truck full of enemies rolled in quickly and I was unable to shoot a rocket at them as I had my rifle out. They wiped us out in short order and we respawned on the firebase we had built and out rally.
As we returned there was another infantry squad pinning the infantry at powerstation and CAS was called in. Both attack hueys struck the area cleanly and we moved in to secure the area again, only one enemy troop remained and was dispatched. The other squads that were attacking dam requested clearing assistance and we moved down into the dam area itself.
There is a stairwell that goes from the 'ground floor' of the dam to a level above that is commonly held by defenders. An FOB was built on the south side of the dam, but too close to this stairwell and the defenders proximity kept the FOB from ever being spawnable. While checking on the firebase I noticed a FAV that had been abandoned, and I let the FAV squad know so they could retrieve it (which I believe they did, but am not sure).
We held the lower opening to the stairs for some time, and were unable to dislodge the defenders even after we had capped the flag and with the assistance of another full infantry squad. Skud let us know he had to take off and the Dam defense was overrun a little while after by a strong infantry push by the MEC. Our squad was wiped out, and at that time we noticed that the firebase we built was destroyed and our rally had been recently overrun. We spawned on East Beach to defend our last important flag as we had around 100 tickets remaining.
Our squad moved into the mountains east of East Beach and requested supply crates from the air trans squad, and when they arrived we built a firebase. Sandiford, who was running the LAV squad joined the defense in the mountain and scouted north, clearing infantry. West Beach fell to the enemy, one attempt to retake it was allowed by the commander, Namebot, before he ordered everyone to fall back. Several players commented we would lose without West Beach although East Beach is the only one that bleeds. The defense at East Beach was slow as the MEC did not mount a strong attack for some time, and their request for mortars on East Beach itself did not cause a casualty as our team had done a good job of spreading out. After the artillery a single BTR made it into the compund but he was destroyed by Sandiford's LAV or AT kit.
About 20 minutes later Sandiford requested assistance with a report of two BTRs north of our mountain FOB, around the H6 area. I moved north to assist with Soccer scouting ahead and our riflemen were called to bring up additional ammo. When the enemy BTRs were spotted I was surprised to see 3 of them heading directly for Sandiford's single APC. Sandiford was able to take down one of them and I killed a second with my HAT. Sandiford fled to the valley below but I do not believe he survived. I resupplied and awaited the BTR's return. I did not have to wait long, but I was again surprised when the BTR had been joined by a second and I was only able to destroy one before being shot down and losing the HAT kit. The BTR was able to take out several other quad mates and we ended up back at the FOB. At this point were were below 1:1 on the K : D for the squad, but had killed some additional points in BTRs so I think we broke even on points as a squad.
We did mount an effective defense and I thought were were a contribution to the team but not the deciding factor. Throughout the game out team held a 10-20 point lead per the K : D board but the helicopters had been mostly unused after we fell back to East Beach, which kept our side from losing additional vehicle points. I destroyed 3 BTRs myself (15 tickets) and viewed 2 more killed by Sandiford at the East Beach defense. The round ended 30-0 so the loss of vehicles was as important as the overall teams K : D ratio.
Items to improve: The stairwell on Dam is very defensible and a technique to root out defenders will be important for the future as more and more people are using that location.
As an AT user I should have kept that out when I was idle in case of a vehicle rush when other riflemen are also defending. Additionally I need some more experience with the mountain terrain for knowing where a likely push by the BTRs will be as they are not easy to hear prior to cresting a hill. I was killed in part due to moving too far from a hill crest and not being able to fall back, although he could have also chased me down.

I was part of the small group of defenders at West Beach (7 players total). After Chrisweb had to leave due to some internet problems and after our initial fail with BTR's at the beginning of the map (though we did breach east beach in the beginnig), I decided that our RP was in a good position, Karboon and celestial had built an excellent firebase nearby and it was time for us to take it back.
After suggesting to the squads at dam to blow up the overpass, which was done and the idea was that if by some chance the US was able to get into the dam area, they would have to go all the way around, or via the water/mountains edge. (I get a kick out of blowing up bridges, or walkways in PR, don't know why, but I say if you can, why not) The South Bridge was also destroyed.
I truthfully feel that the MEC would have one this round, and I was frustrated at several players attempts of trying to attack east beach, especially with BTRs. To this day I do not understand why players cannot just effing defend.
At West beach we took down one or 2 transport helo's (and the survivors desperately trying to swim to shore), 1 or 2 rp's, maybe a FB, fended off a squad which came in via a LAV, destroyed the LAV thwarted an advance from the waters edge, and then a few of my squad members asked if they could go hunt down the remaining US infantry, which I gladly said yes.
My squad-members and I really enjoyed defending east beach, it was the first time in a long time that I did not have to explain the importance of defending, especially since East Beach was a heavily fortified castle of sorts.
I was just disappointed at how the round ended, (friendly BTR hit a friendly mine which was told about in team chat, or around the area, but you could have easily used the mountains instead of the road itself) and how players on the MEC side HAD TO ATTACK, as I said in team chat the entire round, "If we contain the other team we will force them to get restless and force them to attack, and when they do, they will be on the receiving end of fire." But of course people always have to attack, they just can't look at the bigger picture.

Just for the area attack, TBH I think it was a rushed area attack/mis-fire, but I wasn't there.
It gone down to the point where I wanted to go CO, and I almost resigned my position as SL and had karboon drive me back, but at the same time I was hoping that players would have seen the bigger picture, oh well.
Snoggums, I take it you were in the squad that made that initial approach on West Beach?
Who was the player that got shot right next to the LAV when he hopped out, or when he was about to hop back in? I know from the guard tower I was in I was able to pick off a annoying AR gunner from I think 430m with the SL Scoped Kit (I have really grown to love the scoped riflemen kit, though i do prefer the non-acog rifles in general, but the MEC and Chinese Scoped guns can really do a lot of harm)

At the beginning of the round I think we landed after the first wave, and we weren't part of the attempt to retake it later on. Basically once the other 4 squad members spawned at West near the beginning we moved right out after a minute or so and didn't get involved in the fighting there.
