Although it might be quicker to use the comm channel to request UAV, do try to always use the SL commo rose or the map, as it puts an indicator on the commanders map and all he has to do is right click on that area and say "accept". Of course you might be in a big firefight, but the commander also has half a dozen squads to magane, that is why it is best to use the map whenever possible.
Oh absolutely - if the situation allows it i do this as not only is it easier for the CO, but I can get it exactly where I want it. It's more for situations like you described, when things are hectic, and you don't have time to switch to the map / rose because you are covering your buddies assaulting into a built up area at *exactly* the point in time where the UAV goes down. That split second has made all the difference several times already!

The only requests I take seriously from my SLs are for supplies. I use my UAV *constantly*, so it is rarely available for requests. And with the scan and big picture available to me, I know better where the arty is needed.

Sorry, but the commander does know best.

I've often realized elevated effectiveness by making tactical decisions in a battle with the assistance of the real-time UAV intel.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Zephyr: Apophis is clearly a highly sophisticated self-aware AI construct that runs on a highly modified toaster oven in Wyzcrak's basement.

Man, you just said a mouthful. I'm beginning to see that the UAV is even more important than arty most of the time... Theres just nothing like KNOWING you've got two bad guys around the corner...grenade time, baby!!

It just seems more effective to give the guys on the ground (who are going to win the battle for you) real-time intel.

During the day when only 5 people were on, me and the commander held a flag position in a ruined building because he was continuously giving us UAV feed and we'd know where they were coming from. Otherwise we would have been blind sided and defeated much sooner. They must have tried 10+ times before they finally got it

I had a fun time in your squad Jedi, and we were on the ball and holding our positions... Its so frustrating to see your team losing when you seem to be doing your job so well, but you can't win em all!

Looking forward to more frags and flags tonight... Just have to make the grind through the work day... *sigh*

Yeah, only don't trust his targeting instincts with that arty. The CO likes to cut it close.

Intel goes both ways. SLs should be telling the CO what is going on. A quick "CO, teams 2,4, and 7 are engaged at this position" lets the CO know what is up, and whether he needs more artillery or squads in that position.

Was that me? I know I led 4 at one time, and not sure of the other squad I led... I think it was 2....hell, I can't remember

I'd like to reinforce this. I've called out enemies advancing on other squads to the CO before, and it saved allied squads lots of grief.
