Wednesday night's fun and hilarity (let me count the ways)
1) Car chase on the oilfield map. We had just lost one of the west flags, and I respawned at the far east flag and grab a buggy with some squadmates to get back there. About 1/4 of the way back, we pass an enemy buggy that procedes to give chase. Over hills, dodging between clusters of trees, and speeding through enemy troops finally got us back to the west flag in (relatively) one piece.
2) Squad TARPAN vs. The Unending Army of Aircraft. For 20min straight on the power plant map, we had no less than 3 helicopters (including the blackhawk) and one jet assaulting our NE flag. We also learned that the proper time to give the warning of "BOMBS!" was before they actually dropped; not 2 seconds after they hit and blow your squad to bits. 3) Asking the CO for backup on the SW wetlands flag assault. About 30 seconds later, the CO himself rolls up in the mobile AA gun. After we all died, the CO said, quite definitively, "That AA gun is really cool!" 4) Squad TARPAN finally takes the SW wetlands flag. After previously having spent approximately 25min assaulting (and failing to take) this flag against 3 enemy squads earlier in the game, we grabbed two jeeps from the MEC UCB with 15 tickets left to our team's name. Not only did we make it to the flag in that short of a time, but we just plowed into the base and managed to clear out the enemies right before the map ended. 5) Witnessing the shortest-lived CO ever. On the 2am EST fight on Strike at Karkand, the MEC was leaderless for a while, leaving us to be pounded upon. Finally, a brave soul says over the Comm. Channel, "Greetings squads, I am your new Commander." Roughly 3 seconds later he follows with, "Squads, I am leaving the Commander position. I am not cut out for this!" It was a very fun and funny night last night. |

Last night rocked, props to Tarpan and everyone else who kept us in high spirits no matter what we were doing.
Memorable things for me included our massive armored column, and: "Defend this position" "...Don't we have to take it first?" Sorry, that still cracks me up XD

Re: Wednesday night's fun and hilarity (let me count the ways)
I was kindof dissapointed with the level of play last night - things just seemed very disorganized, not a lot of team work - though I was on one squad (I forget which) that did some nice work with the blackhawk.
Once again, I fault the lack of CO leadership as the leading cause. All stuff that's been mentioned before - lack of orders, lack of communication, lack of tools (UAV, arty). Half the time I had no orders to go on, and was more or less trying to just keep up with my SL, who really didn't seem to care if I was backing him up or not. The zeppelin guy who was the CO for at least 2 maps - how many times did he have a mutiny vote go up against him? PLEASE patch/tweak this EA - a vote of 10 should be enough to bump a CO off. Teamwork is really tough to achieve without leadership. |

Re: Wednesday night's fun and hilarity (let me count the ways)
The problem I see there is that at the grunt level you really have no idea how well the CO is doing since you have no direct contact. Therefore, as I have posted (somewhere) before I would like to see SL be the only real ones with any say on CO mutiny and such. Also the way in which SL and CO are assigned in the first place needs some lovin, but I know we have some great guys working on all this already so I'll try not to sound too insisten/whiny.
To try to take this thread back on track I will recal a particular moment on the Power Plant map where I turned around to see a jeep explode on contact with Tarpan(on foot), killing all involved. Now thats defense! =P

Re: Wednesday night's fun and hilarity (let me count the ways)
My favorite part was when doctorglass took over CO and sounded like he was constantly screaming into the mic.
And then when things got nutty in Sharqi he ended with "Squad leaders, you have ultimate discretion on your orders" aka 'Um I dunno what to do, you do something.' He had some REALLY bad ideas he didn't think through: CO: Everyone mass at this waypoint, mass here I want a huge massive wave hitting this waypoint soon, but gather here! Me: Um, Commander, negative on that. Squad 4 does NOT wish to join that easy artillery target you call a mass. Squad 4, #1 squad like 4 rounds in a row

Unless a CO is displaying overwhelming incompetence, I think we might want to work to help him gain experience at the position. The often empty CO chair is a sign that we need to train more people for that position. |

I requested from my squad to jump up to CO...but they needed me to stay. And I quite liked the squad. Next time I might jump up for a bit...

Re: Wednesday night's fun and hilarity (let me count the ways)
There definitely are not enough COs out there. It's a thankless job, stressful, frustrating, and sometimes boring. So, I suggest we help out anyone who is willing to attempt to learn the job.

Re: Wednesday night's fun and hilarity (let me count the ways)
I actually want to practice CO more often, but never get a chance to do it.
I'm all for supporting CO's as much as possible, and wherever possible. However, if a CO is unwilling to learn and participate by using the tools that only they have - I am all for taking them out of that role. |

Re: Wednesday night's fun and hilarity (let me count the ways)
The only problems I have with playing CO is when all my stations are destroyed and I keep getting mutiny-voted by the same jerks I'm trying to get to secure the area so I can supply drop to repair...

Re: Wednesday night's fun and hilarity (let me count the ways)
I've considered stepping up as CO several times, but I've no real confidence in my abilities there. I don't do much better than average at RTS-type games (which is basically what the commander is, heh) and, frankly, I feel much more suited to running things down on the ground.

Re: Wednesday night's fun and hilarity (let me count the ways)
Last night I was typing in begging people to be commander. It seemed as though no one wanted to do it. We eventually got someone, but man, you really do need one from start to finish.
