"COVERTOPS" squad 7/22 (KABOOM!)
Good job Lagomorph, ABPositive, and for a time, rc999 (but please get a mic!)! We all went specops and I locked the squad at 4 and it seemed to work pretty well. We kept enemy (USMC) command assets disabled (read: blow'd up!) for the better part of two entire rounds on Zatar Wetlands and Daqing Oilfields and our teams won both by landslides.
On Zatar, the assets are at a low traffic remote base which is easily accessible from the river. We did have to hide out from choppers and boats coming past from the carrier but that wasn't too hard when they weren't actively looking for us...which they never seemed to do. However, we did end up playing cat-n-mouse with asch and few others from time to time when they came looking for us. On Daqing it wasn't quite so easy as the command assets are located at the UCB which mean't dodging quite a bit of traffic in the form of choppers, tanks, APCs, etc.. On the bright side, there's lots of cover and concealment so Escape & Evasion tactics are readily available...and we did lots of that! Our E&E kept Cymba in his attack chopper busy for quite some time but he seemed to bore of us (or maybe got new orders) because after a while he'd just fly off to the war and leave us to our devices. MUAHAHAHA! I also think specops should get TEAMWORK pts for blowing up command assets. NOt that I care about score but if the scoreboard is here to stay it would be nice to have the successes of a specops team reflected in the scores just like the other classes that get pts for teamwork tasks. Anyway, was my first time leading a pure specops team and it's quite a bit of fun! Thanks guys. Rizzo out. Edit: Hehe, just found this in the upcoming patch notes: Quote:

Re: "COVERTOPS" squad 7/22 (KABOOM!)
Yeah, that was fun stuff. Also, I'm happy I was able to live up to the requests I've made in previous posts. Namely that I never blew C4 in suicide distance or without checking to make sure friendlies were clear.
There was one time I tried to C4 a tank on in Daqing on our way to the UCB and After sticking him and begining to run off I started taking fire. I don't mean to be pretentious in any way by "blowing my own horn" but I'm proud that even in the heat of the moment there I was able to refrain from just pulling the trigger. (Yes, I was shot down and therefore didn't take out the tank.) Along a similar vein, I think our squad as a whole did an excellent job respecting the hostile UCBs we were in while keeping the enemy assets down. We prided stealth over shooting and so avoided spawn camping. And we didn't steal, blow-up or otherwise booby trap enemy vehicles in the UCB even after repeated and painful attacks by Cymba in that attack helo. (I think we could have easily rigged up either the helo or the pad on many occasions and I'm happy to say that we decided against it.) As for the points, it doesn't matter to me in the least. Despite near zero "scores" I felt like we were instrumental in both of those landslide victories and that is really all my little ego needs. ![]()

Re: "COVERTOPS" squad 7/22 (KABOOM!)
Yeah, we stayed the course and ignored the vehicles and aircraft at the UCB. I did, however, on a couple of occasions, blow up a tank but it was only *after* we'd been discovered and were being hunted down. I blew em up to deprive our hunters from using them against the squad, forcing them to remain on foot and fight us with small arms. It's all about "intent" and my intent was obviously not camping.
Other than that there was no booby-trapping and hiding in the bushes to blow people up as they hopped in vehicles/aicraft. No no no! Our primary target was command assets from start to finish and we engaged enemies only when discovered and fired upon... Once again, nice job guys! I look forward to doing it some more. Edit: if you look at the title quickly it looks like Cover Tops. ![]() |

Excellent. I lead a squad for a bit last night and we tried this also. Seemed to work good and the commander knew he had a dedicated Spec Op squad at his disposal.

About the hiding spot, well you need to get creative when you have Asch and Cymba on your track :-) I was never found... Actually there are plenty of spots. The key is to find a background that matches your outfit... Darker for opposition, lighter for USMC. Then make sure you stay *still*. I've had enemies almost step on me without seeing me :-) Looking forward to another specops squad, Rizzo! Cheers ABPositive |
