Oman UCB Engagement 7/27/05

During the passworded session on Wed night, Raub and I were running the APC and tank from our (MEC) UCB to attack and defend the easternmost flag. On one of our respawns we found ourselves under fire in our UCB from a USMC squad. They were blowing up the "assets" (UAV, Radar, Arty), but they also had guys hitting our unoccupied aircraft, killing us as we tried to board aircraft and vehicles, and even getting into our tank and APC to supress us.

My opinion is that this clearly violated the server rules. I contacted an Admin and repeated warnings were given, but the UCB assault did not stop until we actually killed off the enemy squad, 5-10 minutes later.

I know some of the offending squad members from another game, and I discussed the event with one of them, and his interpretation is that it was OK to use enemy vehicles in the UCB in order to protect the asset destruction effort, and that it was OK to kill soldiers who were boarding vehicles in order to engage the asset destroyers. Furthermore he indicated that the mission and tactics were endorsed by the TG-tag-wearers in the USMC chain of command.

The MEC UCB on Oman is a tough one because the spawn points, vehicle/aircraft parking spots, and assets are all in very close proximity. So I can see the logic of my friend's interpretation. But I still think the rules were intended to prevent this sort of activity, which interfered with Raub and I being able to carry out our assigned mission on the eastern flag, and also impeded our attack helicopter and jet crews attempting to board in the UCB.

My intent in posting this is not to flame or seek retroactive punishment, but to encourage discussion of what player conduct should be in this situation, and possibly to elicit some sort of ruling or clarification from the TG gods.

Ok...there are some serious issues here. To keep it simple, as it presently stands, you should NOT be attacking or laying charges on enemy vehicles in a UCB, nor should you be using them in ANY capacity. (with the exception of hijacking a jeep or similar vehicle to escape after the mission is complete.) Killing personnel is legal as long as you are not spawn camping, but should not be your primary objective. If I am Spec Ops, I will generally let the pilots pass by unharmed, so as not to give away my position, however, if it's the Helo pilot that has been hunting my squad all night...my boys and I are putting rounds into him!

Guys, this topic has been discussed ad nauseam...so my advice to those who endorsed the type of behavior mentioned above would be, if you are unsure of what is legal within a UCB...DO NOT enter one! if you want to learn how to play Spec Ops...join a squad Clorox is leading....that's how I learned...

Re: Oman UCB Engagement 7/27/05

Raub sent me a PM and also reported this on TS. He said they stopped doing this once they were warned.

If this is a separate incident, please see here:

The rule is pretty clear and not open to interpretation. The incident you describe breaks these rules.

Re: Oman UCB Engagement 7/27/05

I have even narrowed the rules down a little tighter than what the SOP states for myself. As I posted in another forum:

Spec Ops is one of my favorite missions/classes. I have set specific rules for myself when going after enemy CO’s assets in a UCB.

My general rules I try to follow:

It is ok to destroy Trailer, Radar and Arty.

It is ok to report/spot enemy assets leaving a UCB.

It is not ok to purposely engage enemy troops or any other asset in the UCB.

If discovered and engaged by the enemy, it is ok to fire on enemy in self-defense only while escaping and/or leaving the UCB. Mainly I try to evade without engaging if at all possible. Usually once I'm discovered I try to leave the UCB all together, which actually allows me a chance to re-arm and go back in.

It is not ok to go after enemy CO within a UCB. If he is outside the UCB then that’s another story.

I usually let them repair their assets without shooting them. I just wait until they're done, then I blow the assets up again. This forces them to keep personnel in the UCB instead of using them on the front lines.

I've found that following the above self imposed rules keeps my butt out of the sling while being in the other sides UCB. Plus it's fun playing cat and mouse.

Thanks Dirt for the Kudos! We had a good time playing Spec Ops. I look forward to doing it again sometime.

Re: Oman UCB Engagement 7/27/05

Several threads have been created about the UCB rule as Bom has listed. For further clarification on the rules or to report an incident, please contact an admin.

Closing this thread is in not a reflection on the original poster, just closing a topic that has been discussed at length.
