Discussion: Battlefield 2 / Battlefield 2 - After Action Reports - Sharqi 8/7 - The TV station was a real struggle last night. Whoever was organising the defense on
The TV station was a real struggle last night. Whoever was organising the defense on the MEC side did a great job. I think we took the flag back once during the entire game and then gave it up again pretty quickly.
Keeping the armor round back on the eastern side of the building was, from my perspective, key. We couldn't get at it easily with AT and the tank alone was enough to defend against any attack coming along the fence line. I probably spent 50% of my time prone on the ridges to the southwest. Just when we would think we had taken care of the snipers and AT on the roof an infantry squad would hit us on our flank, if we survived that then it was pretty much guaranteed that Bommander was gonna hit us with arty again.
In the end it seemed rather stupid to waste so many tickets trying to take a point which we gave up again so easily, but damn if it wasn't a hell of a lot of fun trying.

I was there! Bommando did an excellent job coordinating the different squads! My squad (Omega) did an excellent job as well defending that flag and moving when needed! It was a very hard match! That particular flag is key to winning the map, which everyone seems to understand! But there comes a point at which retaking it is counterproductive, and the USMC should focus on the other flags! Good game though...
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts, And I looked and behold: a pale horse. And his name, that sat on him, was Death. And Hell followed with him.

i was in that map and after about 5 minutes i thought it was apparent we werent gonna be able to get it back. What we shoulda done was fall back to the north, middle, and hotel flags and defend to shave tickets off the mec force instead of wasting tickets gettin our main back. When the mec started to break out we could have flanked em with just one squad and possibly gotten the main back.
Yeah, I felt the same way Santa. We lost way more tickets trying to take the tv station than the enemy would have lost from the few minutes (seconds maybe) of ticket bleed we would gain by taking it. Of course the assets at the tv station are something you don't want to be without.
Breaking a determined defence of the TV station is an interesting problem. Last night I think we should have fallen back to the construction yard and set up a strong defense facing north and east. We could have left the northern base undefended which hopefully would have drawn defending forces from the TV station and essentially would have allowed us to rotate the MECs defense to the north base away from the TV station. Heh, armchair commanding at its finest
We only lost the round by a few tickets so whoever was commanding did a good job regardless.
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
